Small/medium dogs that don't shed hair?

Is there any dogs that don't shed or shed very little? I want to get a small to medium sized dog but don't want dog hairs all over my furniture if it can be avoided. I remember as a child we had a dog and the hairs where so bad Confused I was going to get a pug but heard these shed really bad? Tia.

Have a look at a Spanish Water Dog. No shedding and pure breed so you know what you're getting. Also they bark very little.

English toy terrier - very little shedding

Get leather (or simulated leather) furniture, then it just wipes off, problem solved. Given the choice of shedding or constant grooming I, personally would go for shedding.

Having said that, we had a collie type with a smashing coat, was mid length and shiny, didn't shed much, never seemed to stay dirty, never got brushed and always looked good. Looked a bit like a smooth collie, but I never saw a smooth collie in real life, so I don't know how similar the coat really was, and ours was definitely not KC so could have been anything. May be a bit big though?

Would concentrate on character, though particularly if you have small kids, have known some positively vile small yappy, though non shedding, dogs!

If it makes a prospective owner think about buying a puppy responsibly then I will keep saying it. No breeder can guarantee anything with a cross breed. It’s not a breed of dog.

My little Lakeland hardly sheds. Even less if I keep his coat stripped all year.

Yes we all know your views wolfiefan you comment it on every post even slightly related to puppies. Its boring, and despite what you think, its not saving any puppies.
The op literally just asked for some small/medium size low shedding type dogs. Yes crossbreeds can be unpredictable but if you go to a responsible breeder they can pretty much guarantee it will be low/non shedding. Which is what the op asked.

(and I'll save you the time - 'there's no such thing as a responsible crossbreed breeder' now you don't have to say it)

Supply and demand. So people who breed masses of dogs for the money. AKA puppy farmers. I wouldn’t line their pockets.
I would rather have a breed of dog. More idea about coat and temperament and health etc or a rescue but with the knowledge that the health background etc is unknown.

Tibetan terrier. Technically they have two coats and 'blow' the undercoat in summer but it just needs brushing out, and if you cut them in a teddy cut there's even less maintenance. Had one for 10 years and never had a problem with hair everywhere.

My chihuahua doesnt bark shes good as gold, she has been an extremely easy puppy.
Chihuahuas do get a bad rep because some people get them and dont socialise them and dont treat them like dogs and let them get away with behaviour that you wouldnt let a large dog get away with.
But they actually make fantastic pets I am getting another during the year.
Many people get more than one as they are pretty easy dogs.
Mine is short haired she doesnt really molt, easy to clean when shes been on a walk tiny wees and poos to clean up and she is a clever little dog so laid back just like her mummy.

Nesssie precisely what I was coming here to say.
People often want 'no-shedding' dogs as they hope they will be lower maintenance, whereas it's quite the opposite.
No shedding means the dog's coat needs regular brushing and often specialist grooming.
I think if you really want a dog, then shed hair shouldn't be a concern. If you're happy to pick up handfuls of warm poo, or clear up dustbin sick, or bathe a fox-pooed dog, or walk for hours in the cold, dark & rain, surely you can cope with a bit of hair on the furniture!

Are Chihuahuas not barky? It could just be my neighbours, it sounds like it’s been smoking 50 fags a day since birth.

Chihuahua best dogs ever, mine is the sweetest gentle and cuddly dog I have ever met.

If people have a good specimen of a poodle they would breed poodle puppies. - Supply and demand. People don''t want poodles. They want cockerpoos/cavapoos/labradoodles etc.

Just to remember that any dog that doesn't shed naturally will need semi-regular grooming which you will have to budget for.
Cavachons are my favourite of these suggestions.

Also, they are really really great dogs .. there are a lot in my local park and every single dog I’ve met has a great little personality.. further, have you heard of cross breed vigour??

I have a Scottie. She carries an air of royalty around her but very clever, stubborn and doesn’t shed.

I disagree. Some pop crosses have been around for a long time. I actually have one and I got her off a breeder that is well known and had a waiting list to match with vetting etc. So please stop generalising

How will you find a reputable breeder of something that isn’t an actual breed though? If people have a good specimen of a poodle they would breed poodle puppies. Why cross except they can breed as many litters as they like and never even have to register them.

@wolfiefan ok i didn’t know that some poo crosses don’t shed
What’s the relevance of the Puppy farmer comment to OP’s question though? Don’t think Puppy farmers discriminate - you run that risk with any Puppy you buy, just have to do your homework and get a reputable breeder

@Kisskiss a poodle cross may well shed. Crossbreeds can have all sorts of coats. And any poodle cross is a puppy farmer’s dream.

Anything poodle crossed barely sheds.. cockapoo cavapoo.. maltipoo... jackpoo? I also saw a Schnoodle. All very smart, sweet dog breeds too
