My cat has been poisoned

Devastated is an understatement. Charlie began to look dizzy yesterday, I then found him barely conscious, took him to the emergency vets where they concluded he's been poisoned with anti-freeze.

My poor baby is fighting for his life, vet has given him vodka (?!) intravenously but I am feeling horribly miserable after doing some research and learning they often don't recover. He is only 2 and usually healthy. Seeing the vet at 7.30 to find the results of his bloods now they have done everything they can - this will then prompt either further treatment or euthanasia.

I went to warn my neighbours, who informed me their FOUR cats were killed the exact same way, and never told us?!?!? Have informed RSPCA and police. I am really struggling to deal with the fact this is most likely a deliberate poisoning.

Charlie was showing early signs of renal and kidney failure yesterday but has made it through the night and these bloods will tell us if the treatment has helped. Feeling very very sad right now.

I guess I am just posting in the hope that someone knows of a cat who has survived this :( Please keep your fingers crossed for my precious Charlie :(

Still here, thinking of Charlie!!! Hope today brings good news. Hang in there Charlie your mummy loves you.

ScoobyDoo2012 · 18/06/2012 10:03

Thank you :) No change overnight, which I guess is good. He's stable but critical, basically his blood results were discouraging but could have been worse and he seems settled in himself he isn't even on pain medication he just isn't in pain. It's confusing how he can look so much better but the blood results are telling us a different story. Repeating the bloods tonight in the DESPERATE hope of improvement. Ds turns 4 tomorrow but none of us can enjoy it due to this :(

Fingers crossed for some improvement. I'm glad he's not in pain at the very least, but am still shocked for the wee mite. Take care x

Narketta · 18/06/2012 10:22

There are some truly evil twisted people out there! I hope your boy pulls through scooby.

Years ago one of my mums cats (along with many others) was killed by cyanide, link to the newspaper article here

I have everything crossed for Charlie and hope that whoever did this to him is caught and punished.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 18/06/2012 12:06

Come on Charlie :( x

Pinkie29 · 18/06/2012 17:11

Any news?? x

ScoobyDoo2012 · 18/06/2012 18:48

Charlie STILL hanging on... Vet said he's spoken to specialists- 1 hadn't seen a single cat survive 24 hours and the other could name the few who had. They are doing the bloods tomorrow instead of today to give him that bit more time for his blood levels to drop. Pleaaaase please let him be ok!!!

Our cat was poisoned, we don't know what or who by, but she survived. She lost all her teeth but she was fine. Whoever did this is a sick bastard and I hope they get caught.

Sending lots of hugs to your family and Charlie x

MonaLotte · 18/06/2012 19:11

Sending positive thoughts for Charlie. I really hope he pulls through.

It makes me feel sick that someone could do something so cruel to a defenceless animal. Hope the police catch the bastard.

SecretNutellaFix · 18/06/2012 19:13

Hope there is good news for Charlie. HE's a strong fella, to still be here. Let's hope it's enough to pull him through.

Only just seen thisSad

Pull through Charlie! Scooby I hope you and your family are bearing up. Poor, poor little catSad.

The thought that some sick monsters do this deliberately is beyond comprehensionAngry Why and how could anyone be so hideously cruel??

I will sign the petition.

BetterOnACamel · 19/06/2012 11:02

Any news? Hope he's bouncing back.
Come on Charlie!

ChuffMuffin · 19/06/2012 14:55

SleepyFergus Aww thanks, honestly she was fine, we were just so glad she was alive. The only problem she (well, we!) ever had was that if you gave her fuss she'd get really excited and dribble everywhere! Grin

All my fingers and toes are firmly crossed for Charlie and your family. Do you have any RSPCA charity shops near you? I bet they would let you put signs up in the windows. Also see if you can put up a warning in your local newsies window. Gumtree + Twitter would be good too. I would start one off for you on Twitter but my twitter is private so nobody can RT what I say. :(

SleepyFergus · 19/06/2012 15:06

Chuff one of our cats is like that when he is 'over-petted', he dribbles a bit! And he has all his gnashers! Quite cute in a damp sort of way!!

ScoobyDoo2012 · 19/06/2012 16:34

Hi, much is the same until the blood results tonight. I feel sick and horribly anxious. Charlie still hasn't eaten which the vet is very concerned about (and we are too because he usually LOVES his food). I cannot believe how draining this is, been on high alert since Saturday now.

I have designed peters to put in local area and journalist has interviewed me so will be reported in our local paper. Got a Facebook group going, doing everything i can to stop this happening to any other poor cat.

We are really struggling knowing what to do with our other cat who is crying to go outside. We tried a lead but she hates it. We are so scared to let her out but it also seems cruel to keep her in.

I have such a bad feeling about these blood results, even if they stay the same hope is not lost. I just think they are going to be even worse :(

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 19/06/2012 16:47

You are doing an amazing thing warning other pet owners in the area!!! And the petition was nearing 5000 signitures when I last looked. I hope Charlie knows just how many people are rooting for him to come thru this. Sending more positive energy to him come on kitty u can do it x :(

ScoobyDoo2012 · 19/06/2012 16:49

The vet just rang saying the bloods don't look good :( But they are trying to get a catheter in him now so am slightly confused as he had said if bloods are bad they will have to put him to sleep. It's my son's 4th birthday today and it is completely ruined, we all just want Charlie home :(
