What are your favourite breeds?

OP posts:
Scuttlebutter · 16/08/2010 00:56

Greyhounds (not surprising as we have three!) Also love lurchers, and the other sighthounds, like Borzois and Salukis, and deer/wolfhounds. Have a fantasy of winning lottery and having enormous hall, with roaring log fire surrounded by reclining greyhounds and various huge hairy hounds, recumbent on comfy dog beds and sofas. Adore mad, whiskery mongrels and also have a special affection for Welsh foxhounds (daft as a brush, and look like one too). But find it difficult not to like any breed - generally love all dogs.

LisaD, come and meet my girl, she is a beauty and also submitted to a dauschound (sp) puppy yesterday :o pic on profile.

BaggedandTagged · 16/08/2010 01:10

Dobermans. They have a certain dignity about them.

bratnav · 16/08/2010 01:44

I used to be terrified of Dobermans but recently I have seen a few that haven't had their ears and tails messed with and they are really sweet. Also the brown and tan instead of black and tan is gorgeous.

walkersmum · 16/08/2010 08:18

I love my Bernese, have owned others and bred spaniels and labs but these are truly lovely gentle big dogs.

(the lab puppy stage drives me mad)we have a spaniel and a lab cross and 3 Bernese.
Soemtimes the odd foster dog as well.

Promised DH an Italian Spinone next time - he insists 5 dogs is enough!

PlumBumMum · 16/08/2010 08:32

We have an old golden labrador(who has been blind most of his life) and a beautiful new black one(22weeks),
which I knocked downSad last week but she has forgiven me despite her broken pelvisSad
owned both from they were 7 weeks old, I love them, most gentle dogs and soo smart

will see if I can upload a pic of the two of them together

when I was younger I loved german shephards

izzybiz · 16/08/2010 08:38

I have quite a list!

Staffies,
English Bull terrier
Bull dog
Boxer
Bull Mastiff
Rottweiler

I can see a bull dog pattern here! Grin

My friend has a French Bulldog, he is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm not keen on small, wiry, or skinny dogs just for looks but I like all dogs as a rule! Smile

PlumBumMum · 16/08/2010 08:38

have a pic on now although old as black lab is now 4 times the size

WoodRose · 16/08/2010 08:51

Border collies - beauty & brains - are my number 1 favourite. However, we picked up a rescue Springer yesterday and he has already wormed his way into my heart!

FellatioNelson · 16/08/2010 10:21

In my dreams when I wwin the lottery and can have loads of lang I am goin to be the Maria Von Trapp or the Mrs Anna of dogs, and I will have a whole rainbow pack - one of each of my favourite breeds, plus I will rescue loads of sad ugly dogs and make them smile and just live in a happy dog commune.

I love:

Hungarian Vizslas (have one)
Lurchers (have a poor excuse forone
Italian Spinones
Irish Wolfhounds
Wirehaired Pointing Griffons
All pointy/houndy type things really
Border terriers - they look like angry monkeys
Springer spaniels

FellatioNelson · 16/08/2010 10:22

That would be loads of land - have no idea what having loads of lang would entail.Blush

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/08/2010 10:29

My all time favourite is the Stafford. Grin Very biased though because I have a lovely Staffy.
Once we have a house and a bit more room I quite fancy getting a miniature Schnauzer.

But saying that there's no breed I actively dislike. Im friendly to pretty much all animals, including most humans.

Alouiseg · 16/08/2010 11:48

Fellationelson, you'll be needing a full time live in handsome vet then Wink

FellatioNelson · 16/08/2010 11:52

Do you know one? Send him round for an interview.

Alouiseg · 16/08/2010 11:54

No I wish I did, a handsome vet is at the top of my "must have" list at the moment.

tjacksonpfc · 16/08/2010 13:36

I have a nad 12 month old border collie. He really is a nutter.

Theres only one breed of dog i really want though and that is a Shar Pei. Howver dp says they are ugly.

I wouldnt turn away though a:
Newfoundland
St bernard
Pyrenian mounting dog
Bermease mountin dog.

I like big breeds lol can you tell Grin

kid · 16/08/2010 13:41

Springer spaniels. I think they are adorable, so friendly, loyal and such fun. I love the way they don't just wag their tail, their whole bum wags!

I'm picking up my 11week old springer on Saturday Smile

lou33 · 16/08/2010 14:03

Kid, i can feel your excitement!

Eddie has settled in really well, you would never know he has only been here for 24 hours. And Dora has been v sweet with him, in fact she keeps bringing him sticks to play with, and today they were sharing a food bowl together

:)

kid · 16/08/2010 14:09

Ahhh, that's so sweet.
I kind of want to come home now. I've lazed about, ate and drank far too much, got a lovely suntan but it's just too hot for me now!

I'm sure once I'm home there is a chance I'll wish I was back in turkey!
Still, just another 4 days till I head home.

lou33 · 17/08/2010 14:03

not long now, at least you have something to look forward to!

kid · 19/08/2010 18:52

Yep. Just sitting the bar on our last night here. All packed and ready to leave at 11 tomorrow morning. I can't wait for Saturday, am getting him at 10am.

ImBrian · 19/08/2010 19:34

I love papillions, have a tiny one and cant imagine being without one. She doesnt bite ankles but does think she needs to protect me and yaps a lot.
Other favourite breeds (this is based on looks mind) are pointers
boston terriers
and id love a great dane :D

notnearlyasblondasiwas · 19/08/2010 20:14

I love Boston Terriers, I really wanted one but was over ruled by DH, but have come to love my little Frenchie boy - piccies on my profile.

Also have a bit of a thing for boxers, they are just so springy and I love their little faces.

MrsJohnDeere · 19/08/2010 20:23

English Springer spaniels.

Also very partial to Welsh Springers, cockers and sprockers.
And vizslas and pointers (but they lack that essential springer nutiness).

lou33 · 19/08/2010 21:16

kid, is the excitement mounting?!
