I think I am, therefore I am …. a woman?
Please consider signing the petition to update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic sex is biological sex, not “sex as modified by a Gender Recognition Certificate”, or Gender Reassignment which may stand in for it.
So that organisations have the confidence to use exceptions allowed in the Equality Act to discriminate against men who say they are women, and who may even have a Gender Recognition Certificate making them legally “ sex female ” on their birth certificate.
This way they can confidently provide single sex provisions for biological women in certain circumstances such as: rape crisis centres, refuges, changing rooms, schools, girl guides, dormitories, certain sports, all women short lists without fear of discrimination litigation.
(*It is not necessary for a person to undergo surgery in order to obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate, or in order to have the designation of the protected characteristic Gender Reassignment. Most transgender males have not had surgery.)

Please ignore the Government response so far, following the first 10,000 signatures, which says sex based spaces are already provided for. This is not the question asked in the petition.
