Apologies if this is a breach of etiquette, but could I ask that you take one minute to read the terrible plight of the Ashoori family on the petitions thread and sign/ share their petition. You may have heard about their story through the BBC or Channel 4 yesterday.

Signed. Are the family involved with this (or another similar group) www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2019/09/23/campaign-against-state-hostage-taking/#662c92156a30

It appears that there are many similar cases. Good luck to your neighbour and his family.

This is terrible, I’m so sorry, Iran is doing this deliberately now as a policy of taking hostages - they do not recognise dual citizenship. Fundraising would help a campaign but this is all political I’m afraid. Speaking as someone who’s been supporting the Ratcliffe family who have been campaigning for years for the release of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe. Can you suggest that your neighbours make contact with Richard (see the Free Nazanin website) or Twitter and with Amnesty International who have been the only organisation to consistently champion her cause (she is a political prisoner even though she did nothing knowingly political). Like your neighbour she was just visiting her parents. It’s completely outrageous but our Government seem completely unable to do anything about it and are massively distracted at the moment. I’ll sign the petition, but do contact Amnesty. And good luck. X

Thank you all so much!

Ishoos: thank you. I will tell the family about that sight in case they are unaware. Really appreciate it.

Oat milk, my neighbour has met with Richard R and he gave really generously of his time to her and was v helpful. What a tremendous man. So upsetting to see what he and his family are enduring. Amnesty have now got involved too which is great.

Signed. I used to employ a lovely girl whose father is Iranian. It's scary to think something like this can happen to a family like hers.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/10/2019 09:45

Ok, it only needs 3,500 more signatures to get to 50,000

IronicalCallSign · 01/10/2019 11:51

I've known an Iranian person before, family had to leave because of a few political issues, but it meant my colleague (who was young when they left) could never safely visit, ever! Including not knowing all the family left behind. Very sad

Bumping for you

qwert1 · 01/10/2019 14:25

Oh thank you all so much! Every signature helps as does every share. So grateful. It's a living 24/7 365 nightmare for them. FlowersFlowers
