OK, I know it's a really easy mistake to make. It's just that every time I read this - more and more frequently - my mind conjures something like this. Enjoy!

All these are making me reach (seen on a thread today…)

GarlicStyle · 26/06/2025 20:04

What's the typo? Denim?

Sorry, just clocked off from work. Been battling pedants.

GarlicStyle · 26/06/2025 21:10

Yep, @Pedant5corner 🤗👹 Hope you weren't out-pedanted!

Not today.

I kept being asked 'Do you understand the question?' and in the end I asked, 'You are asking me [the question] but why are you asking it?. Then it was my turn to say 'But that's not how it works, it works like this'. (It does and it didn't need questioning, but it was one of those things where if you know what the terms mean, it makes sense, but if you take them at dictionary value it looks like repetition or contradiction. Just checked and the SME said 'It looks perfect'.)

(They are the spelling and grammar police but I have evidence of one of them using in tact in a group chat and another using of as a verb.)

Oh I thought it might’ve been a satan skirt...

Pedant5corner · 26/06/2025 23:29

@wandawaves wins.

Newfrownlines · 27/06/2025 00:05

Over on another thread someone is asking about the best formulae for a newborn.
I'm guessing pi isnt it because there not weening yet, their to young.

Pedant5corner · 27/06/2025 00:15

What sort of formulae are we talking about here? Excel formulae are useful.

@GarlicStyle I have been know to ask on their post is a person has downed a bottle of wine! typos, badly spelt words, unintelligible words making no sense whatsoever!

It’d be perfectly reasonable to use ‘formulae’ if they were talking about more than one formulation of baby milk wouldn’t it?

Pedant5corner · 27/06/2025 10:00

@ErrolTheDragon , the question posed on that thread was "what’s the best formulae to give my 4 week old? x", so the answer is no.

"What are the best formulae to give my 4 week old?" is grammatically correct.

Oh God I totally missed the point with this and wondered if someone had referred to it as a Santa skirt instead of a Satan skirt🙈🤣🤣

Haha! That's a whole new loop of misinterpretation 😂

This is obviously a Santa skirt. I've never seen a Santa wearing one with a crop top, but anything goes. Could even be a satin Santa skirt worn by Satan.

AI had a lot of trouble with this concept! Here's its best (sexist) effort ...
