Didn't notice we'd gotten to the end of the thread!

I am sure DW found some cool "superhero" baby tutus when she was making her rainbow one. That would "girlify" a babygro and cape ensemble.

Tinkerisdead · 30/05/2013 08:24

tutus here

When i made dd's rainbow outfit for her 1st birthday i used a long sleeved bodysuit and put leggings underneath too. The tutu's are soooo easy to make if you google no sew tutu. If you look in boys sections they have the red/blue/black long sleeved vests in the right colours. Make an emblem out of felt and stitch to the front.

I wouldnt worry too much about girlying it up for her, i found that dd was more a bystander at her own party but i did a music and movement session to keep her involved.

NonsenseTalker · 30/05/2013 11:36

Oh my gosh I love you guys!!!
That's DDs outfit sorted Grin
I will definitely have to do the lollys, how cool are they?? And I quite liked the pink spider girl stuff......... Blush
I forgot all about the incredibles. Although I am less 'elasti-girl' and more 'spanx-woman'!!
I also have a middle son to fit in too.
There will be preschool friends too (hopefully) but I'm not concerned about it being fancy dress for guests as I hope to make personalised capes and perhaps a 'make your own mask' so that would cover that.

I am in no way arty, crafty or clever so as much as I loved the cake ideas, I'd never be able to do them myself and I have just (still in box) bought my first ever sewing machine so the capes might not work either.
But I have until August..........

stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 17:09

good basis for make your own mask

If you can master sewing a straight line, you can make capes Grin

I am bored. Stuck in airport, flight delayed, meaning that I will reach home ~23 hours after I got up this morning. This is not good news. I should be getting some work done. I may go shopping instead.

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 17:26

Yeah, capes are easy. Hem the bottom, channel at the top with some ribbon through - done.

The lollies should be fairly easy too. I've seen superman shaped cutters if you wanted to do biscuits or sandwiches. I'll dig out DS's "Superhero Starter Kit" and see if there are any ideas in that if you like? I seem to remember stuff about making your own chest logo thing. You could put out paper and pens, maybe with printed templates, then let them colour them in before you cut them out and stick them onto t-shirts with a bit of double sided tape? Could be a good activity for while you're waiting for everyone to arrive?

Sorry you're stuck stealth. Shopping sounds good

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 30/05/2013 17:27

Capes would be easy just sew rectangle/squares and tack/pin them to tops. Eassyyy.

One thing we've said is good for superhero parties is to create a backdrop for photos esp if you can use them as a takehome item or thank you card. like this

stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 17:43

over engineered capes like I would end up making

Shopping could get expensive, Blathers. This is Arlanda (Stockholm) - lots of shops full of achingly cool Scandinavian design at eye - watering prices.

Tinkerisdead · 30/05/2013 17:50

I really do picture such a cool life for you stealth. Cake making go-getter!

stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 17:56

That made me chuckle, DW, to the slight bemusement of everyone else spending their Thursday evening in a soulless lounge in an airport. This will be (if it ever goes) my third flight today.

How's the shoulder?

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 18:20

Ooh, jealous. I'd love to go to Stockholm. I have friends in Norway and Denmark who have both offered to put us up if we go over but I'm not sure if they actually mean it or are just being nice so we've not been yet.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 18:29

I'm not claiming it's not fun - clearly it is, sometimes, but today it's not. All I have seen of Stockholm this trip has been airport, taxi, meeting room, taxi, airport lounge which unaccountably smells faintly of vomit. Having missed lunch (I think I ate breakfast twice between 3am and 11am though) , I have now eaten salami and bread, twice. On that note, I am now going shopping - even if it's only window shopping, at least it will feel like I have actually been to Sweden Grin.

Tinkerisdead · 30/05/2013 20:17

Shoulder is waaaay better. I kept it really still and now there's just pain in the back of my shoulder blade rather than the whole shoulder.

I couldn't do it, travelling about, as I hate flying that much but there is something quite glamourous about jetting off to these places. I bet you're dressed so nicely too. No yoghurt down your jeans I bet!

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 20:27

Yes, no paint covered trackie top for our Stealth.

OP posts:
NonsenseTalker · 30/05/2013 20:40

Oh yes, I want to do a back drop, but I was thinking either a sheet on the ground, like http this

or better, I have seen but cannot now find, a sheet with clouds as a backdrop, with a box in the same colour sheet, so the children lie, one at a time, on the box and it looks like they are flying.

I have already found that cape Stealth and she also did a range of personalised ones for her party and that is what I have my mind set on! (lunatic)

Any ideas of games and food? It all has to be themed.....

NonsenseTalker · 30/05/2013 20:41

www.buzzfeed.com/twopoodles/superhero-party?sub=2180586_1122089

If that didn't work....

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 21:51

I love the superfoods on that link! Brocolli etc with "improves vision" on the tag is a genius idea!

How about pots of red jelly with a chocolate spiderweb piped onto the top when set?

Biscuits would be easy. Superman cutters are easy to pick up.

Savoury food is always harder. You could just go All-American and serve Hot dogs or similar. They had some great comic strip trays on that link which would help to theme them.

Sandwiches? Or like this and wrapped up in comic strip paper?

Bottles of drink with more capes and the labels replaced with super hero logos? You could add Super hero straws if you wanted.

Love this building leaping game idea.

Here is the flying photo with the box.

stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 21:53

The capes look pretty doable, Nonsense. I am a big fan of things being lined - it saves finishing edges, which I hate.

No yoghurt - check. Dressed nicely - depends if you think the purple cast goes with the flowery shirt Grin.

stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 21:54

I love those shot glasses with capes.

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 22:03

You need to put a photo of yourself on FB one day stealth. It's no fair - you know what I look like!

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 30/05/2013 22:09

I'll stick with pictures of cakes, thanks Wink although since you know my RL name and who I work for you could Google me

Blatherskite · 30/05/2013 22:11

I would make a shit private detective. It never occurs to me to google anyone!

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 31/05/2013 08:10

this is me

stealthsquiggle · 31/05/2013 11:27

Grin you look just how I would expect, DW.

stealthsquiggle · 31/05/2013 15:20

Blathers - look

I am so tempted.

For the first time ever DD will go to a party tomorrow without a bag for the party child Sad
