Didn't notice we'd gotten to the end of the thread!

Don't worry DW - it is a million miles from being urgent. Cast is actually less uncomfortable than the splint was (or it was - seems to be working a little loose and rubbing now Sad)

Cake carving - cake needs to be cold - almost but not quite frozen is ideal. I think I would start with a pudding basin cake for that fox, but you could start with a round one. Serrated knife, take a little off at a time.

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 13:09

Crikey! That's a challenge and a half!

Cold cake was definitely easier to carve when I was doing the ski slope. That fox is a whole other level of cake craft though.

I am not sure I would even try and carve his head and tail out of cake - head could be krispie cake, and tail just fondant - that would make him a lot easier to carve.

Tinkerisdead · 24/05/2013 16:00

I found a similar style dog tutorial and the head is cake but i think i'd have to make the tail from crispies/fondant yeah.

The problem is i'd have very little time near her birthday but obviously more time this half term week so ideally i'd need to make it freeze it, carve it but i'd need to re-freeze it again and thats a no no isnt it?

stealthsquiggle · 24/05/2013 16:41

Chill it, carve it, then freeze it. Should be fine.

Tinkerisdead · 24/05/2013 16:50

Whats that you say? Chill it, carve it and freeze it? Grin

stealthsquiggle · 24/05/2013 17:28

Don't mock the afflicted Grin. Phone app and left handed typing

Tinkerisdead · 24/05/2013 17:30

Im gonna try tyoibg this left handed now. Hey its bettr than my usual phone typing! Hard tho

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 20:15

I really badly sprained my wrist during my GCSEs - to the point that I scarred my tendon and it still hurts now sometimes - so I'm quite good at using my left hand.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 24/05/2013 20:31

Blathers you were clearly trying too hard Wink (and you are younger than me, but I knew that). My left hand is truly rubbish. I have been struggling to write "p 16 next" in DD's reading diary Blush

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 21:21

I was playing badmington. I told the teacher it hurt but she gave me one of those withering looks and told me to carry on playing. I went back shortly afterwards when it had swollen up and gone purple and she sent me to A&E with a suspected fracture!

The same teacher will be coming to my Mum's 60th this year. The temptation to walk up and say "I told you it bloody hurt" is very strong Grin

I'm 35 on Monday Shock

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 24/05/2013 21:42

Yes well I am 43 exactly a week later - so I am officially not quite 8 years older Shock

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 21:49

Pah! 8 years is nothing. We'd be in the same age grading at Parkrun.

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 24/05/2013 21:50

Ahem 34 here.

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 21:54

I'm still 34 for another 2 days!

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 24/05/2013 22:06

34 for another...counts fingers and toes...8 months.

happy birthday you two xxxx

Blatherskite · 24/05/2013 22:18

I shall have my revenge....

stealthsquiggle · 25/05/2013 00:14

So we get to patronise you cos you're younger. Them's the rules.

Tinkerisdead · 25/05/2013 16:36

Yes you may patronise away. Or tell me where im going wring you know how i should give dd2 cold tea in a bottle, let her cry it out, errm i shoulda weaned them at 4 days old. Those are the gems from the old folk arent they?

Blatherskite · 25/05/2013 20:16

She's definitely pushing her luck now stealth

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 25/05/2013 23:01

Us old folk know how to hold a grudge, you know - I would watch it, if I were you....

Blatherskite · 26/05/2013 11:31

We're well practiced. I have grudges older than my children! :)

And I'm still the same age as you for another 35 hours and 20 minutes DW

OP posts:
Tinkerisdead · 26/05/2013 19:01

Have either of you made plans for your birthdays yet?
One of those bus bars were at the town fun day today stealth. I really wanted it for my 40th. Dh suggested i have it for my next wedding instead as its likely to be sooner Shock

stealthsquiggle · 26/05/2013 19:07

I hope you thumped him, DW.

No plans for birthday - DS has school exams that day, and DD has failed to organise DH into organising a party Smile. We are going out for very very nice lunch the week after when DC are on half term.
