Plus its not like they think your lying they all saw you fall over!!!

And the cake. How far have you got? What's the cake theme style and whereabouts are u as i have no idea.

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2013 11:48

Cake is supposed to be a basket of roses. Roses are made, cake is baked and frozen.

Blatherskite · 17/05/2013 11:49

Will airport staff help? I fly so infrequently, I have no idea.

I was thinking paints from the US yes. I really want some split cakes and while I get get them from Ebay, they're so few and so popular that they're anywhere up to about £10 a go for the nicer colours!

Oh, and if you go directly west from Blathers as far as you can without hitting Wales (maybe a teeny bit north) that's where I am.

Tinkerisdead · 17/05/2013 12:04

Oh lordy i took history not geography off to google maps.

Hmm so we need to make a basket one handed? Do you have a weave embossing board?

jetstar · 17/05/2013 15:21

Oh dear stealth hope you feel better soon andwork out your dilemmas (I'm no good at decision making) Surely you could get some special treatment help at the airport though?

Number 1 cake in oven. Taking longer to cook than I thought, DD2 really needs a feed & nap... Also the cake tin I hired had no bottom so tried to line it with foilbacked parchment but it has still leaked a bit Sad

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2013 15:34

I do, actually, but I am currently leaning towards flowerpot rather than basket

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2013 18:30

Right, with some help from DH cake is buttercreamed. I have collapsed. Will face the next stage later.

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2013 18:31

Jetstar how is the cake looking?

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2013 23:35

Advance notice - if this hand is in plaster for 4 weeks, I will be a gibbering wreck. I just had to watch DH put fondant on a cake.

jetstar · 17/05/2013 23:42

Have been on a night out tonight ;)
Cake looks ok - a bit uneven on the top (I knew I needed that cake leveller gadget I saw) will have to level it freehand in the morning. Not sure I'm brave enough to split it to buttercream the middle. Up early tomorrow to ice it - bet you are still better at it than me stealth even with broken bones! Will we get to see a photo of the finished cake?

Blatherskite · 18/05/2013 10:04

I have a cake leveller thingy jetstar, they are good if you're a bit OCD about evenness like me.

And stealth.

Poor stealth.

stealthsquiggle · 18/05/2013 10:51

Jetstar - cake levellers are indeed good. It's probably too late now, but with those number tins I have done it by propping the cake up in the tin (with ramekins /packet of biscuits /whatever fits) and using the top edge of the tin to cut it level.

I am feeling vindicated in my decision to make it a 'distressed' flower pot instead of a basket. Basket would have ended in divorce. Next step - left handed air brushing. Eek.

Tinkerisdead · 18/05/2013 16:44

Oh blimey you are good getting dh to help i'd be shrieking like a banshee!

But you can do this stealth i have faith.

stealthsquiggle · 18/05/2013 17:53

DW I was according to him

stealthsquiggle · 19/05/2013 15:30

stealthsquiggle · 19/05/2013 19:35

Prize was fab - I will find a link

stealthsquiggle · 19/05/2013 19:37

One of these

Tinkerisdead · 19/05/2013 19:57

I like that!! Humphhh our village dont do a "show" kids godparents village has one in august. Wonder if i could enter something as an interloper.

stealthsquiggle · 19/05/2013 20:01

It was just the bake off - village isn't big enough for a full on show - there is a fete in July sometime.

I am sure you could enter - organisers of these things are generally desperate for entries IME.

jetstar · 19/05/2013 21:31

WOW! Fantastic cake stealth and well done on the win!

Now I am too embarrassed to put up a pic of my Number 1 cake effort Blush
It tasted good anyway even if there was rather a lot of icing (and I LOVE buttersugar)
Anyway, thanks very much for the idea Blathers and to everyone for their advice. I can only aspire to get improve in the future Grin

stealthsquiggle · 19/05/2013 21:40

Noo - I want to see the number 1 cake. I bet everyone loved it. You should see some of my early cakes (not to mention the huge pile of toys essential equipment that I have amassed over the years Wink)

jetstar · 19/05/2013 21:49

get improve??? sorry 'bout typos!

I'll give it a go to work out how to post a photo... (whilst eating said cake)
