Yeah, Jetcat, maybe differentiating between 'iTunes' and 'the iTunes Store' is helpful.
You'd put the CD in the laptop, and then import it into iTunes.
When you want to get stuff you don't physically own, you go to the iTunes Store online. That's where you find podcasts, audio books, apps, singles and albums. Some are free and some you pay for.
You click on them and they are also imported back onto your iTunes on your computer, which is where you manage them, and decide what you want on your iPod Touch for the day, or week, or whatever.
