Student parents support thread

I used to come on this topic a year or so ago and post on the general hand holding support thread but it seems to have gone so I'm hoping there might be enough of us to start a new one.

I'm in my final leg of a M.Ed in Education and am currently writing my thesis which is going very slowly okay but am struggling to find time, motivation or energy to study. It would be nice to know others are in the same boat and have a place to handhold, moan, swap tips and motivate each other.

It's about the strengths and weaknesses of alternative education systems. It should be an interesting essay but I just can't get into it.

I've managed to struggle up to 2000 words. Hope to do another 1000 today

dylsmum1998 · 20/05/2010 21:22

sorry this thread dropped off my list!

Prolesworth i felt like that towards the end of my yr. I was still researching masters/phd's but could not get on with what I should be doing! hope you manage to get the ommph back to get your work done.

Mia how are you getting on?

I have done just over 3000 words. It's getting easier but I just don't have the energy for it.

Roll on Monday. Whatever happens it has to be finished by then. I can take 2 weeks off once it's in before working on my final assignment.

The last thing I have to do is a 10 minute presentation but I don't plan on doing more than 3 or 4 days work on it.

Ewe · 21/05/2010 12:27

Hi ladies

This thread slipped of my Threads I'm On and I totally forgot about it in the depths of revision and exams and the general election.

I am now done for the year apart from one small assignment that I need to do this week. Hurrah!! So happy!

Think exams went ok but time will tell on that one. Going to try and be a good girl and get lots of advance reading done over the summer!

Hope you are all well.

MiaWallace · 24/05/2010 14:02

I've just handed in my last essay. It's such a relief. Now I have two weeks off before I have to prepare my presentation.

It's going to take at least a week to clean my house from top to bottom. House work has really taken a back seat while I've been doing uni work.

dylsmum1998 · 24/05/2010 22:00

yayy Mia, its gret when it is all handed in

Lenni · 25/05/2010 19:58

It is definitely a phase Prolesworth, I couldn't have cared less in September that I wasn't submitting my dissertation, it just felt far too overwhelming to contemplate. Now I am sweating on funding and just accepted an offer on the 4 year PhD course. I found I just had to make myself do some studying and I quickly got the bug back.

Congratulations Mia and Ewe! Must be such a relief.

I have no official studying now until October but will check in when around. Feel like it is such a long time to wait. What can I do with myself?

Exciting news on the PhD Lenni.

I know what you mean about not knowing what to do with yourself. I keep feeling I'm slacking and then realise I have no work to do.

Going to make a start on reading for the PGCE as soon as I have finished my presentation.

dylsmum1998 · 26/05/2010 07:28

wow great news on phd lenni- will be coming for advice in a few years

Mia I keep saying i am going to get started on pgce reading. Have spent past couple of weeks getting the house sorted and properly clean. I will start after half termI also have to do 2 weeks placement in all keystages of primary and need to organise that.

Hello everyone here!

I used to post on MN quite a lot in the past but dropped off after starting my course. I'm reading for a BA in Theology (I'll sit my Finals in just under a year). Dh works full time - often 14-hr days - and we have two dc, aged 7 and 6.

So life is busy! I'm writing a dissertation over the summer. I really love my subject but am knackered after a super-busy term, so I feel like I need to get the spring back in my step!

Anyway, hope we can support each other in our various studies!

canoe · 25/06/2010 11:37

Hi can i join you?

I don't quite fit in as i'm not a parent... yet.

I'm about halfway through a masters degree, and about 7 weeks pg. I study as a distance learning student as i live in Botswana.

I've got barely any work done since my BFP, as have been so distracted by baby stuff.

I need a big kick to get me going again!

Really impressed with everyone else's studies with children.

Hope you're all getting lots of reading done today

Marjoriew · 25/06/2010 11:45

I've just started a short course on the OU. I have 7 kids all grown up now and 15 grandchildren. One grandchild lives with me - I've had him since he was 2.
I've carried my credit points over from uni so just don't want to bite off more than I can chew.
Grandson is also home educated so time is at a premium.

MiaWallace · 27/06/2010 08:47

Good to see this thread moving again.

I found out last week that I got a first for my degree!

I will be starting my pgce in September so will be doing work for that over the summer in preperation.
