I used to come on this topic a year or so ago and post on the general hand holding support thread but it seems to have gone so I'm hoping there might be enough of us to start a new one.

I'm in my final leg of a M.Ed in Education and am currently writing my thesis which is going very slowly okay but am struggling to find time, motivation or energy to study. It would be nice to know others are in the same boat and have a place to handhold, moan, swap tips and motivate each other.

didn't get any words wrote last night, my brain wouldn't work. I did sort the bibliography of what I have done so far though. Means I must do some today though, I still have 2000 words to write and wanted it done by this evening I think I better move the goal post back to tuesday evening, a little more realistic

MiaWallace · 25/04/2010 12:08

How's it going dylsmum? Have you made much progress today?

Dp has taken dd swimming this morning to give me the chance to get on with some work. I've been working flat out and have managed to hit my 1000 word target for today. I might do a little bit more later on but I'm on target at the moment to get it complete for Wednesday

6000 words done 2000 words to go

dylsmum1998 · 25/04/2010 21:37

Mia I seriously need some enthusiasm- you on the other hand are doing great

I have been to uni collected a different book, and orinted off some more information to try and help. I really am struggling with this law module I cannot get any motivation or interest in what I am doing.

I had my friends daughter today as well so got nothing done. Well I did some more organising of the house, some cyber window shopping and colour mixing in water with the children, but nothing productive to the degree

I have just sat and worked out some sub headings to try and brek the assignment down into smaller, hopefully, more managable chunks. Am having a meltdown cos I just can't do it!

am tempted to crawl under duvet and hide from this one

dylsmum I know I'm going to be feeling exactly like that next week. From Thursday I have 4 days to write a 3000 word essay.

I have done no reserach and really haven't any idea how I'm going to approach it.

When is your deadline for this one?

LB29 · 26/04/2010 10:11

I haven't been on here for a while. Mainly because I have been so bad and reading how much work you have all done makes me feel sick with guilt.

I have an assignment due next week so it really needs to be posted fri or sat morning. I am going to finish some other coursework and then write up a plan this morning. Hopefully by the time I go to bed I will have put a few hours in at least. I think there maybe some coffee fuelled nights needed.

How's everyone elses courses, projects etc coming on?

MiaWallace · 26/04/2010 12:51

Keep us updated with your progress LB29.

It is really motivating me posting what I've done each day.

MiaWallace · 26/04/2010 13:48

I've just completed another 1250 words of my dissertation

I just have my conclusion to write tomorrow

7250 done 750 to go

Will be so relived when it's completed. No rest for the wicked though have another two essays and a presentation to do before it's all over.

dylsmum1998 · 26/04/2010 14:13

Mia the essay I am trying to write is due on 7th may.

I have another one due on the 6th (not yet started!)

presentationi to give on 5th (all prepared and done)

exam on thursday this week, no revision done.

am feeling slightly overwhelmed. dd is home with me today and everytime i sit down to concentrate she needs me desperately. Am meeting a friend at uni tomorrow we going to sit in the lib together for the day in the hope we can motivate each other.

you are doing great getting so much done

MiaWallace · 26/04/2010 15:21

I hate it when they put all the deadlines within days of each other.

Sounds like you have a busy few weeks ahead of you.

Will the 7th May be the last day of your degree?

nowit · 26/04/2010 19:00

In the same boat by the sounds of things. I have done 6,013 words of my diss (the all important 13) 1087 lefet to go! Due on the 10th. I have 3 3000 word essays due then aswell all at varying degrees of readiness. I can't believe it's nearly all over. My kids don't remember a time when I wasn't studying. Kepp going ladies, the end is in sight...

Lenni · 26/04/2010 20:43

Mainly bookmarking. I'm sorry to have vanished like that, we went away for a week for my birthday and 3 weeks later made it home. Grrr, am not going abroad for a long time. Thankfully have got a weeks extension to hand in my dissertation, but at least 3 days of that will be needed for binding. So need to work this week. Will read back a bit now.

And in other news I found out (on my birthday ) that I didn't get the first round of PhD funding, there is a second round decided later in the year but I really wanted the first one. The worst bit about it was the weakest candidate got it (apparently) as they had the strongest supervisor. That may be a sanitised version I have been consoled with but if true it means out of the 4 shortlisted I am now up against the 2 strongest candidates for the remaining place which doesn't bode well. Made more annoying by the first round being a straight proposal competition whereas the second round involves interviews etc. and I have no experience of academic interviews in recent times. Eek.

madwomanintheattic · 26/04/2010 22:55

oh lennie . bad news re funding, but it isn't entirely over - still hope!

getting stuck with your deadline looming must have been a nightmare! i was wondering how you were getting on - i thought there might be a post soon which said 'yay! done!' but i guess i was a bit previous...

fingers crossed for you.

Jaquelinehyde · 26/04/2010 23:13

Lenni you poor bloody thing, how annoying is it that it appears to have come down to having the strongest supervisor
Everything crossed for the remaining place.

Sorry I haven't been around for ages life took a turn for the worst, but I'm back and have begun a strict assignment timetable for the next 5 weeks as I have my research proposal, 2 essays and, 2 group presentations to plan and complete in that time.....BALLS!

Hope you are all well, a quick re-cap of where you all are would be great.

MiaWallace · 27/04/2010 07:42

Lenni sorry to hear your news. Really hope you get your funding. When is the second round? Do you have to wait much longer to find out?

I'm hoping to complete the first draft of my dissertation today. Only 750 words to go.

I'm then taking 2 days off to sort out things for my wedding. Followed by 5 days to write a 3000 word essay which I have done no reserach for!

MiaWallace · 27/04/2010 12:05

Yay! Just finished the first draft of my dissertation

dylsmum1998 · 27/04/2010 19:24

oh bugger Lenni re funding, but still hope yet

YAY Mia on completing your diss. draft

I went to uni library today while dc were in school/nursery and managed to write just over 1000 words, so am feeling much better as I still had ideas when I had to packup to collect dc. I can do this assignment. Am going to try and do some more once dc in bed

MiaWallace · 27/04/2010 20:08

well done dylsmum. Sounds like you are on a roll

dylsmum1998 · 27/04/2010 22:03

yes I finally got going, I just need to conclude now then it is just the fiddly bits to do, contents page etc.
It is pushingit getting it all done on time, but it is beginning to look possible!

Am off to bed now, never been very good at staying up late. hopefully will finish the conclusion etc tomorrow once I get in from placement.

Lenni · 27/04/2010 23:17

Thesis progress: 15 051 words done now on a 15 000 +/-10% word limit. Yay! I have a little left to write, about 1000 words at most I think but should have it done and dusted by tomorrow night.

So excited that I might actually graduate from this course come July! After 5 years!! Am past caring about the funding now, it didn't happen, am hoping for the next lot but think I may convince DH to let me do the Masters Ed Research next year full time anyway which is a bit of a madcap scheme but hey ho. My only concern now is if I didn't get funded now, what's to say I'll get funded at the end of the MRes, good money/time after bad and all that. But I've got time to talk that over with people. And have been offered more teaching so am happy about that potential avenue of work.

Am intrigued by your discussions about other threads Moley/Madwoman, link me in a couple of days time would you? No distractions until after Friday though!!

Well done Mia and Dylsmum, sounds like you are both almost finished too. Hopefully there will be virtual champagne come the end of the semester.

Congratulations on almost completing Lenni.

I can't imagine the commitment you must have to write 15000 words

Lenni · 28/04/2010 10:07

15092 now! It seemed really daunting when I started on it and I was thinking how on earth will I fill all those words, but as per usual am now desperately cutting words out to save my word count! Always the way!
