Yes wool will work over an ellas house. We have tried it but the nappy just wasn't enough for us but that is nothing to do with the wool. Wool will help to keep the nappy a bit drier as it can breath.

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 19:24

Saying that, I have just put DD in an Ellas house bumhugger. I have boosted it with a pettis dessous bamboo double insert and then have put 2 easy peasy hemp inserts between the nappy and wrap (Airflow as we don't have wool suitable for nights at the moment).

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 19:33

Oh and about the UDNN - somebody has just said on CNT that they didn't prewash at all and it worked right from the start! Hoping yours gets better. Did you order the extra booster?

ok ellen has gone to bed in her bumhugger, with two thick inserts (hemp) plus a bamboo booster.
airflow on top as its all i have big enough
prob wont do her all night i will pop in and check on her at midnight b4 i go to bed, its only had 2 washes and drys today but the inserts are at full absorbanty.
will wash and dry twice again tomorrow, so that will be four times, same again day after so that will be 6. im hoping that will do us!
when my easy peasy inserts come i will be able to boost with them as they are longer then the ones iver just used, will prob have to use 4-6 of them just for nights.

crazyness!
but she is wetting through disposables too now so ive not got much choice.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 25/03/2009 20:53

soon: I'm guessing it must be light wetters that can cope with not prewashing the UDs. Only part of the nappy was wet, so was really like it needed breaking in and was just tooo new to absorb a BIG wee so quickly and it just poured out the nappy instead! Benjamin can empty his 8oz cup quite early on in the night, so really does put a lot out, I think! In any case, I got my pre-loved WNNNs today, so he's in one of them tonight. I think one is cotton outside with hemp inserts, and the other is all bamboo. So, have tried the bamboo one tonight (as not really used hemp much yet), so we'll see how we get on. I know Fiona at UD told me it probably only needed a couple of washes to be at full absorption, but perhaps the problem is that I didn't dry them at all between the two washes.

So, will let him wear them during the day tomorrow and see how they work before washing again & trying for a night. And will report back again, I hope! (tho having to sneak on my husband's computer, as my laptop's cooling fan has died and having to wait for one to ship from Hong Kong!)

TheNatty · 25/03/2009 21:48

just checked ellen, and the outside of the BH still dry, damp on inside but that could be sweat rather then too much wee.
i limited her liquids after 5pm anyway, and sent her to bed with water rather then milk which i know she will drink less of.

fingers crossed!

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 21:51

Rachel - is it slim enough to wear in the day then?

I don't know what I have done wrong today but DD has been in pockets all day and leaked out of all of them. Hadn't drunk any extra or anything so I don't know? I don't think I have done anything different to usual? This was in 2 BG and 2 BBOS?

TheNatty · 25/03/2009 21:53

soon did u wash any new hemp inserts with your pockets? put fabric softner in with the pockets?
thats all i can think of,
sometimes you wee more some days tho. could be that simple

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 21:57

I did wash the hemp with the pockets and then panicked and asked on CNT and most people there said they had all done it as they had never heard of it and it was fine. I hope it is!! But it isn't that the fleece is repelling as if you put pressure on the PUL - you get a wet hand!

TheNatty · 25/03/2009 21:59

oh i dont know then, maybe give them an extra rinse in the machine? maybe you have a detergant build up?
my MEOS used to do that if they had too much build up or if i put them in a normal clothes wash (which would have too much powder in it)

soon2befamilyof4 · 25/03/2009 22:22

ok when I do the next nappy wash I will do an extra rinse at the end. I wasn't planning to wash tomorrow really so might use my MEOS.

TheNatty · 26/03/2009 00:18

no leaks yet...

soon2befamilyof4 · 26/03/2009 07:45

Well not sure what happened with DD as DH delt with her but I put her to bed in a boosted bumhugger and when I just got up she was in a disposable and had a complete clothes change.

Annoying - DD was up most of the night. I had finally got her to sleep about 10pm or so last night (usually 7pm!) and then I went to bed but I heard her screaming the place down later on and DH had to bring her back down stairs. We are meant to be meeting a friend today (me and DD) and she is going to be shattered!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 26/03/2009 08:33

soon: Yes, the UD NN is quite slim and very squishy too! I didn't get the extra booster though, so that will add a bit of bulk, but the soy fabric is quite slim compared to terry sort of fabrics.

Well, I was excited to find that Benjamin stayed dry and slept through last night. But oddly enough, he never emptied his bladder at all!! I'm sure he's done it the odd other time, but still surprising after all the soaked beds we've had lately. Soooo, yet to see how it works when he does his normal output of urine!

TheNatty · 26/03/2009 10:55

well we had no leaks here last night
have ordered 3 more, 2 for tom and 1 for ellen, plus 2 more wraps.

i love hemp, it works really well for us.

soon2befamilyof4 · 26/03/2009 13:01

Yay came home from softplay and my upsey daisy was here waiting for me! I am going to wash it at least once today as I have quite a bit of washing to do. Will probably have to use a disposable tonight and then the Upsey Daisy tomorrow night after a few washes. Although if it needs to dry in between I guess it might actually be longer than that.

Rach - do you know what temp they are meant to be washed at?

I also got a small berryplush today and small wraps.

The ME small wraps look HUGE! I think it will be quite a while till the new baby grows into them! Got some small pink nature babies wraps too.

I am selling 2 minkis if anybody is interested? They were recommended to me for heavy wetters and lots of people seem to get on with them for nights but we just don't seem to get on with them.

TheNatty · 26/03/2009 13:04

what size are they? are they BTP?
colours?

soon2befamilyof4 · 26/03/2009 13:21

They are Large. They are too bulky for daytime really but have plenty of room for stuffing for night times. One is white with multicolored stripes (unisex) and the other is pink with sheep. You can see them here for examples. Mine are bobbly as they are used but I think that is just what hapens with fleece after a few washes? I bought them preloved but have used once or twice since then. If you are interested then I will get them out later to have a proper look at the condition.

TheNatty · 26/03/2009 14:21

ah they are sized.. couldnt remember if minkis were OS, nevermind, they would only do ellen a few months, then the pink would be redundant lol!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 26/03/2009 15:33

How did this work?

Just bought 4 Bum Genius sized. It was a 5 for 4 offer. This came to £43.00. The lady reminded me that postage was free for deliveries over £50.00 so I ordered another nappy.

So, it came to £53.00 delivered for 6.

I don't understand whether I got ripped off or not

OP posts:
swampster · 26/03/2009 15:37

Sounds like you got a discount on the 6th too, to me!

swampster · 26/03/2009 15:38

Assuming postage wasn't included in the 43 figure...

Debs75 · 26/03/2009 15:39

Hi not been on for about 3 threads. Got a few q's.
Am using little lambs and pampers for night and travelling. I will be needing to get the next size in the next few months but am thinkinjg i would prefer to try something else.
I really like using 'real' nappies and don't mind the washing etc. With the ll i have noticed that they leak onto the cover at the legs if worn for more then a couple of hours, which is why i use pampers on a night.
Can you give me some advice on the different ones to try, she is currently 6 months and weighs 13lbs and is in new baby size 3 pampers so is pretty petite.
Any help greatly received

ilovemydogandMrObama · 26/03/2009 16:18

No, postage wasn't included...

Am starting to get really annoyed with 2 parters at the moment and am trying to simplify my life...

Really must stop following you Swampster

soon2befamilyof4 · 26/03/2009 16:51

Debs - I have never used little lambs but if you are having leaks after 2 hours then I think you need something more absorbant. What fabric are LL? Have you tried any other sort of nappy at all to know what type you prefer? It is good to test out a few cheap second hand ones before you spent too much on one IMO. Also, with buying second hand, if you sell on after then you shouldn't loose much money at all, often just the postage. I can't decide if I prefer pockets or shaped nappies and keep switching between the 2! I find shaped/2 part nappies more reliable and last longer between changes BUT the pockets keep DD feeling dry because they are fleece lined all round. I do have fleece liners for the shaped but they are just not the same as they don't cover the entire inside of the nappy. Also, with pockets you can change the amount of absorbancy you use depending on the situation. Like for our newborn, we will probably just use microfiber or even cotton but for our 15 month old we use hemp and/or bamboo. And if I know she will have longer between changes then I can add some more layers!
