Ear piercing of babies, what do you think?

Sometimes i think i live in a romany gypsy camp the number of babies i see with pierced ears and jewellery dangling from their little wrists. Having never adopted the courage to get my own ears pierced, i cant imagine piercing a little baby's ears. Its brutal and so common! What gives with this practice? In my opinion, its mutilation. The dangling bracelets are a health hazard to little ones, and i fear they could break their arms if they got them tangled in their sweaters.

What gives with this?

I had it done for his first birthday. Scabbed a bit now, but it'll come up lovely.

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:54

TBH I'm quite scared that I do agree with you as on everything else, no offence, I tend to feel diametrically opposed to your viewpoint

i don't like to see babies with pierced ears, and i can't understand any shop who would be willing to pierce a little babies ears, there should be a age limit on it, like there is with other piercings.

Caligula · 01/04/2005 22:54

Mud you haven't lived have you!

I'm 28% chav - must be that recent trip in a white limousine that did it, or the white stilettos from 20 years ago!

Mud · 01/04/2005 22:54

Now I'm wondering if whether by saying no offence, no offence will be taken - I think my last post was abit too far, sorry MMDDWW

misspastry · 01/04/2005 22:55

Evesmama, can you show us those tattoos in yor members profile section, pmsl.

ladymuck · 01/04/2005 22:55

I can't see the point of ear-piercing the very young - after all we're for ever fiddling them, why add an extra thing to maintain/clean. However I guess for some it is part of some cultural identity.

But it does surprise me when parents don't seem to realise that other people will view their children differently on the basis of these fashion statements - certainly I find myself giving the toddler boys with skinhead haircut and pierced ears a second look. It seems a bit unfair to impose what is sometimes seen as a negative image on one who is too young to choose.

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:56

I find myself encouraging my boys away from kids with skinheads / jewellry TBH and will do the same with girls with pierced ears. I just wouldn't want them playing with kids who's parents make that kind of fashion statement

Evesmama · 01/04/2005 22:59

have uploaded a nice one of me after a night out on Evesmamas namesake - members profile..but one with tats is a bit much for a first chat doncha think

tiffini · 01/04/2005 22:59

Babies do not need to make a fashion statement.

turnupthebass · 01/04/2005 22:59

I think projecting anything other than your taste in clothes (which you can't help) on a child is wrong.
