Ear piercing of babies, what do you think?

Sometimes i think i live in a romany gypsy camp the number of babies i see with pierced ears and jewellery dangling from their little wrists. Having never adopted the courage to get my own ears pierced, i cant imagine piercing a little baby's ears. Its brutal and so common! What gives with this practice? In my opinion, its mutilation. The dangling bracelets are a health hazard to little ones, and i fear they could break their arms if they got them tangled in their sweaters.

What gives with this?

I was only 8% chav, there was only 2 things i had ever done on there, buying a cigerette of someone when i was desperate and buying a tin of corned beef.

LGJ · 01/04/2005 23:04

little story for you all about my good friend who took her little 4 month old to her aunts house and while she was chatting to her aunt, other members of the family snuck the baby out of the house and got her ears pierced as a 'surprise' for her mum!!!!!!!!!!!!

common common common imo and should be illegal until they reach reasonable age of personal consent - you can't just go round tattooing your babies or getting their eyebrows pierced as well can you? or do I live in the wrong part of town?

football kits on boys is fine. ON 8 week old babies is another matter. For starters, they are made of polyester. 2ndly how can a baby support a football team. Third, they cost the earth and those who buy them usually dont have the money to buy such outfits. Finally they look ridiculous and make baby a projection of daddy!

I love the way you're so definite about it Mamada... now you mention it, I think I can agree with all your points on football kits on 8 week olds, it had just never occurred to me to work out such a coherent policy on the issue!

mamadadawahwah · 01/04/2005 23:36

Caligula, do i detect a slight warming of the heart towards me? Or are you just teasing me!

when I heard about it I wanted to punch family on her behalf believe me
my poor friend was really pissed off about it (and so was her dh) but 'because it's family' they felt they couldn't say anything directly - the worst is her aunt knew she'd be pissed off about it and was laughing when she gave her back the baby in a 'oooh you're going to kill me' kind of way

Caligula · 01/04/2005 23:37

Well OK, then, until the next thread!

Toothache · 01/04/2005 23:37

Mamadadawahwah - My ds had an Everton strip bought for him before he was even born! Granted it was a well intentioned gift from DH's work colleagues. Ds wore it once for photos, but would never put it on him out in the real world! I see so much football rivalry and nastiness here in Scotland that I wouldn't want anyone to make a nasty comment about ds!

Caligula - lol!

hunkermunker · 01/04/2005 23:38

Her aunt wouldn't have been laughing if she'd actually killed her though - as I would've done if somebody pierced my baby's ears behind my back (so to speak - I can't even make a threatening post without introducing levity - I should go to bed ).

mamadadawahwah · 01/04/2005 23:39

Caligula, next one is gonna be a doozy
