Last Saturday, I managed to blag secure one of the last places for a nursing degree at a local uni starting this year... 3 weeks time in fact (gulp).

So I'm desperately filling in forms that have just been sent to me. I've been too healthy for my Dr's surgery and they've insisted on me seeing a dr before they'll fill in Occ Health questionaire for which I'll have to wait a week (deep joy).

I've been asked to write a PS. Now it's 10 years since I last did one. Does anyone have any pointers etc please as my head is spinning from DS/paperwork mountain.

Actually, any advice at all would be very helpful right now.

Thanks

That last book sounds really interesting. I am glad the books sound well organized and readable. One of my friends is a mental health nurse and I was looking through some of the books she had to read in the mid nineties when she was a student. All I can say is ???? . Thank god the books have got better since then!

3andnomore · 29/08/2008 17:15

yes...I remember from my Nursing studies, some books were a bit
some were good, and still got those...might come in handy

Loads more came today (Books and Movies)...Postman was giving me a funny look, lol.....

3andnomore · 30/08/2008 10:38

notalone...received more stuff through...one of them being the OT without borders one....and it looks really interestin...on first glance anyway! So pleased I got it!
Still waiting for the mental health one, which is odd, because well...i ordered it from the same person that i ordered the physical dysfunction one, and that came days ago...

You have got a lot of reading to do now then lol. Thats strange about that book not arriving though. Surely she would have packaged them together?

3andnomore · 30/08/2008 11:16

one would have thought though...especially as that book came by special courier...

I shall wait and see for now....

3andnomore · 30/08/2008 11:23

Just e-mailed that Amazon seller, to make sure everyhting is on track...not that she send them together and the delivery people messed up or something....

3andnomore · 03/09/2008 16:47

notalone....I received my OT and mental health book, and it looks very intersting...!

Notalone · 04/09/2008 07:55

Sorry 3andnomore - been to Sunny Scarborogh for a few days.

So do you have all your books now? Are there any standing out as better than the others? I am going to start ordering later today I think!

3andnomore · 04/09/2008 13:43

Well, of the tezt book they look all equally great and important...I suppose whilst doing the degree you are really needing to learn about everything and once you go on to do your masters, that is when you start to look more into whichever area you want to go to, iykwim...

Most of the other Books and movies have now arrived....and they look all very interesting, but it's the kind of genre I would choose anyway, so, shan't be any hardship to read them / Watch the movies....

Notalone · 04/09/2008 16:48

Well today I went to the library armed with my fiction reading list and they only had one of the books so I have ordered them and will have to wait for them to come in. I did get The Bell Jar by Slvia Plath so will start on this one either tonight or tomorrow.

I am still in a quandry over which text books to order though. I think I will probably go for the Occupational Therapy and Mental Health Creek book , the Anatomy Colouring book and Willard and Spackman's Occupational Therapy - all for a cool £77.

Sadly there are no films on my list. I was looking forward to having an excuse for a back to back film day

Do you have a lap top 3andnomore? DP thinks I may need to get one and I read in a student book that people bring them into lectures. Do you know if this actually happens and if a laptop is essential?

3andnomore · 05/09/2008 08:36

I just got a laptop (dh gave it to me for my Birthday)....not sure if you can take it into the lectures...there is a thread about it in this topic.....and it seems to depend on the lecturer.
I did buy a Dictaphone recently...which hopefully will help me as well.

Notalone · 05/09/2008 17:14

Think I may hold off on the lap top until I know for sure if I definitely need it or not. It seems like a lot of money for something I may rarely use and I always find the small keys on lap tops very irritating lol.

What date do you actually start the course then? I start on 22/09. Not long to go at all!

Notalone · 05/09/2008 17:15

PS - with the dictaphone will you be recording lectures or using it to dictate your coursework on before you type it up?

3andnomore · 05/09/2008 18:19

yup 22/09 here too...but enroll day is the 20/09....
well...I hope so anyway...because still didn't haven't had an Occupational Health check..

I will be using the Dictaphone to record the lectures...I will still be taking notes...but that way I will be able to see later if my notes make sense and stuff....

Notalone · 06/09/2008 09:46

God yes, so do I. Never thought of that. My god, what if they turn round and say no . Have you had all your jabs yet?

Notalone · 06/09/2008 09:46

Sorry, I mean nor have I!

3andnomore · 06/09/2008 09:54

No, but they said that they can be done there...for a payment...although, must make an appointment with gp anyway (Smear, urgh) , so, might ask about the Hep one....
will call admissions on monday and see if it is normal not to have heard anything from Occupational Health

Notalone · 06/09/2008 13:25

Well they do say no news is good news. I had to submit a questionnaire partially completed by me and partially by my GP but we all have to have a face to face assessment too. Scary they could still say no though.

I need to have a BCG too as I bunked off school the day I was supposed to have it so I didn't have to have an injection

3andnomore · 06/09/2008 13:45

yes, I had that questionaire aswell ...am a bit worried that I have not been given an appointment for Occupational Health check....would have thought that they would have given out appointments by now....

Notalone · 06/09/2008 21:11

It may be worth giving them a quick call to put your mind at rest. I think we have ours after enrolment - at least I hope we do . Let me know what your uni says as there should be some sort of uniformity between uni's hopefully.

I went stationary shopping today and am now the proud owner of lots of new pads, gel pens and highlighters. Am going to be buying folders etc soon too. I am hoping my books will we delivered next week so I can make a start on them. I am half way through the Bell Jar and the library got two other books for me today as well - Iris, and the Diving Bell and the Butterfly written by a man who has had a stroke who can only move his eye lids and dicatated the whole book this way . Are you reading anything on the list or have you been brave and gone straight to the text books?

3andnomore · 07/09/2008 08:49

Have all those Books you mentioned
Not read them yet, as still reading a Book that I started before getting all the Book for the course...but...it is about a woman coming out of Drugaddiction and Prostitution...so, kinda the right genre I suppose

I will let you know what they say...they may well organise the whole group to be checked out together...possible, I suppsoe...!
However, I am sure that, whiles the offer now was unconditionial, it still is depending on the crb and the OH check....(well...crb is alright...not that I had anything to worry about there...)

3andnomore · 07/09/2008 08:53

oh an dlol at you getting all stationary sorted...no idea what I will really need, so, will just take a pad and ballpen/pencil and see what they want us to get....
Most work will be done on PC anyway, I think....i.e. writing essays and stuff....
not sure how much else you need!

3andnomore · 07/09/2008 12:32

Notalone, started a thread you might also want to watch.
asking about the essentials you need for University study

Notalone · 07/09/2008 14:47
  • just read that other thread and am well and truly baffled now! And scared I have made a boo boo already - there is a heyuge Blackwells just outside Sheffield train station which I will be passing every single day. Aaarrggghhh!!!

Lol at the going to lectures naked comment but that brings another dilemma. Shoes!!! I usually wear boots with heels or trainers. I don't have any smart flats. Eeeek! What sort of shoes were you thinking of? And do we get given our uniforms or do we have to pay for them?

3andnomore · 07/09/2008 17:59

we will be given a pair or two of uniform...but should we need more we would have to buy it....I think...must look on the leaflat about that....must find it first though...lol

as for shoes...I think something like this
