Sorry if this has been done to dead but most links talks about babies. I agree with most of them that it's cruel. Personally (I think) I feel if a child is older enough to understand it hurts and older enough to look after their own ear fine. I would say that was about 6-7 (depends on the child).
Just intrested in people's view as my mother and father don't like piercings at all so I grew up with a very strong view on piercings. But then started seeing 7-8 with ears pierced at dd school, then dd 7 asking for hers to be done made me really think about it. But their is still a small part of my the programming from childhood their going not till she's 16-18.

I say not until at least 13. Dh says never (yeah, right!). Dd1 is 11 and is not in the least bit interested. Dd2 (9.5) has asked in a not-sure-why-I'm-asking-cos-I-know-the-answer-is-no way, and was quite happy with the answer. I think we will suck it and see on that one.

Thanks for all the vote has been very interesting. DD saw a friend (two years older) from school had her ear done, and told her 3 others from her class (I mean friends class)were also having thiers done. Suddenly dd was very keen again. Neck is still not better but we went and got them done all the same, figured got more time to heal before returning to school.
She is so pleased she choice a pearl pair (very grownup). Said to the shop keeper when leaving the shop "that was fun". Assisted in the clean and she did it with the greatest of ease. She's so please and I personally think it looks lovely.
So I guess my vote has to 7

Granny just came I could see she was not happy about dd ears. Told me it's awful and I should have waited till she was 16 why did I let her have her ear pierced. Dd on the other hand was very cool "Granny I know you don't like earrings but I'm very happy and I can even to clean my ear all by myself."

9 or 10.

16 is ridiculously controlling. I hope any child issued with such a diktat has the good sense to rebel.

When they’re old enough to take care of the piercings and understand it will hurt.
