Sorry if this has been done to dead but most links talks about babies. I agree with most of them that it's cruel. Personally (I think) I feel if a child is older enough to understand it hurts and older enough to look after their own ear fine. I would say that was about 6-7 (depends on the child).
Just intrested in people's view as my mother and father don't like piercings at all so I grew up with a very strong view on piercings. But then started seeing 7-8 with ears pierced at dd school, then dd 7 asking for hers to be done made me really think about it. But their is still a small part of my the programming from childhood their going not till she's 16-18.

Does 11 apply to boys as well Cod?

Lauriefairycake · 22/07/2008 10:14

13

much better way to celebrate being a teenager than giving blow-jobs behind the bike-sheds (a friend did this)

Youcanthaveeverything · 22/07/2008 10:15

10 at a push (you know if the do something amazing, like rescue small dog from a burning building, or if you cock up something fantastically important to them and need to buy their forgiveness.)

But generally 11.

zaphod · 22/07/2008 10:16

11

mummydoc · 22/07/2008 10:19

18 at least, but then my girls will still be wearing smocked party dresses until they go to uni, not touch alcohol until they are 30 and not go on a date until at least 35....

belgo · 22/07/2008 10:22

lol mommydoc. My second set of holes at age thirteen were done against my parents' wishes, and I was a very well behaved teenager!

lilolilmanchester · 22/07/2008 10:34

DD desperate to have hers done. I have said over the summer before she goes to secondary school, ie 11 almost 12. Not sure if there's any real logic behind it, other than she's less likely to be engaging in rough and tumble at play time once she gets to secondary, although I've never heard of anyone having a stud ripped out at playtime so I thnk perhaps I'm being a bit harsh. I was 15 or 16 when I had mine done.

christywhisty · 22/07/2008 10:36

10 or 11

DD had hers done last year 6 weeks before 10th birthday on the first day of summer holidays, a bit of a disaster with an accident ending up in a&e. They closed up

Gave her the option on Saturday (6 weeks before 11) to have them done again, but she said not this year.

belgo · 22/07/2008 10:37

what happened Christy?

I probably wouldn't let them get them done at the start of the summer holidays, not if we had swimming/holidays booked to go on. I'd have thought winter was a better time.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 22/07/2008 10:38

10

I didn't have mine done until I was 26!

lexcat · 22/07/2008 10:41

Christy please do say what happened.

But then actually, I don't have any girls so I couldn't really care less.

I think it looks tacky on young girls. I am very old fashioned

funnypeculiar · 22/07/2008 10:51

Agh, is 11 really normal? (Cod does seem slightly convinced )
I was going to say 15/16.
Bugger.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 22/07/2008 10:59

I'd say 11 as well.

christywhisty · 22/07/2008 11:00

The butterfly of the earring got caught in a towel and was pulled through her ear backwards. The earring was lodged inside her ear lobe

The reason for the beginning of the school holidays is they have to take them out at school for pe etc and I wanted them to be healed before she went back to school

juneybean · 22/07/2008 11:00

i was 7 and now believe it was the right age

misdee · 22/07/2008 11:00

i say between primary/secondry. during the summer holidays. so age 11?

modernart · 22/07/2008 11:06

The more DDs you have, the sooner the younger ones get theirs done. DD1 was 13, DD2 was 12 and DD3 & 4 were 10 Parental strength, dignity and resistance just gets worn down over the years.

Dropdeadfred · 22/07/2008 11:20

Modernart...not in my family!! There would be muder taking place if I had let the younget two have it done any earlier than dd1.
One rule - three daughters.

MummyDoIt · 22/07/2008 12:16

You're right, Modernart. I had to wait till I was 14. Younger sister was allowed to have hers done at 13. I'm still bitter about it!

donnie · 22/07/2008 12:22

10 - 11.
