Baby Preston Davey - Content warning concerns CSA (added by MNHQ)

I’ve just read about baby Preston Davey and I cannot stop thinking about him. I have a 13-month-old of my own, which is probably why this has hit me so hard — I can really relate and my baby is my everything.
I’m crying as I write this. Why does it hurt so much for a baby I’ve never even met? Has anyone else felt this way?
How do you cope with the negative thoughts that follow when you read something like this? 💙

Reading about this case has seriously upset me, probably not helped by the fact that I have a 15 month old child. It’s heartbreaking to think about and I also can’t get it out of my head that there may well be and probably are other children currently in the same or similar situations. It makes me so angry how shit the system is, not that it’s a cure all but I feel like serious money needs to be pumped into social services at once, and other services… again not to make it political as other posters have said but I dread to think how much worse things could get under a Reform government who no doubt want to slash essential services further.

A candlelit vigil in memory of tragic baby Preston Davey will take place in Preston next month.
The tribute will take place on Flag Market at 8pm on Tuesday, June 16 - what would have been Preston’s fourth birthday.
City mum Niämh Clarke announced the event after receiving permission from Preston City Council.

Would you be willing to explain why? I am genuinely interested

Who is this in response to?

IdBeLionIfISaid · 26/05/2026 18:38

Does anyone know why the court hasn't sat today?

Does anyone know why the court hasn't sat today?

It’s really strange, they didn’t sit today and there is no reason stated that I can find and no mention made about when they are next sitting.

IdBeLionIfISaid · 26/05/2026 18:58

Yeah that's all I can see too

toastofthetown · 26/05/2026 19:12

I was assuming that it wasn’t running because of the heatwave. Courts often aren’t air conditioned.

followtheswallow · 26/05/2026 19:13

That’s a good point. It could also be that something has changed regarding pleas etc.

SB1967 · 26/05/2026 22:23

Sometimes they don't sit for administrative reasons it's very common. It won't be the weather.
They're definitely sitting tomorrow.

Scarlettjune · 26/05/2026 22:32

I'm still disgusted at this case, what have we as humans, become.

And what is making adults so messed up that they abuse children. There is so much child abuse going on.

I think some new and highly disturbing evidence has come to light which essentially blows the defence case out of the water.

Good! I look forward to hearing how the case for the defence could possibly get any weaker.

edited to say not good that it’s disturbing of course.

Scarlettjune · 26/05/2026 23:39

Too much child abuse out there. Humans are cruel. I don't think animals are as cruel as humans

Yes new evidence, it’s a video located on the dark web involving Jamie and Preston, a forum called “nursery guard” where videos of babies are uploaded to, it was a huge article on Facebook so I’m taking it with a pinch of salt but the detail was graphic and Jamie had an active account with a name that suggested he was a teacher, and the IP address was located at their properly but via a hidden connection? I couldn’t find anything on mainstream news about it, but this would make sense why there’s been a pause. I’ll try and find the link to share the article.

IdBeLionIfISaid · 27/05/2026 06:36

Thanks.
Usually when they don't sell t there's a line from the reporter saying that.

What I find so disgraceful (obviously aside from the abuse) is the refusal to plead guilty. That poor jury. The judge, the reporters, the barristers, and Preston's family having to sit through this. Disgraceful.

There is nothing good about this case. I know you clarified what you meant but it doesn’t matter how many years anyone gets, it doesn’t bring Preston back and it doesn’t cancel or negate the suffering he experienced in life.

I realise it is a massive if at this point but if his partner was innocent and unaware he has also suffered tremendously as well. Plus Varley’s friends and family and Preston’s birth family and foster carer.

No cause for celebration here at all.

My thoughts exactly, at this point just plead guilty for crying out loud, however I guess he is not wired as a normal, compassionate human being with any accountability, and probably still believes what he did was ok… sick to my stomach

followtheswallow · 27/05/2026 06:45

It is rather complex but it is to do with prison sentencing.

The partner is on trial as well.

The partner is on trial as well.

He is on trial for lesser charges, but the jury will still have to decide whether he was aware/ involved in any of the abuse if Jamie Varley’s defence collapses with the new evidence.

I’m aware. I said it is a massive if but if he is innocent

JumpLeadsForTwo · 27/05/2026 06:55

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned unthread, but there is a very good podcast that is following the trial - factual only about what has been discussed in court/ sometimes expert guests who discuss the process
