I’ve done something really stupid

I’m sure everyone has done something really stupid before as a parent, but I think this has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. My DS came skipping out of school yesterday telling me how he wanted to make some tickets for the show was doing with his friend at playtime.

He said it was going to be a pretend wrestling show (alarm bell did not ring at wrestling show) and him and his friend had done a script and they.
He had his first drama lesson the other day so I thought he must be wanting to put a show on. He started making some tickets after school yesterday but said he’d not made enough.
So I offered to help him and we made some tickets and printed them off to hand out. He said he wanted to call it the (name) & (name) fight show.

Why oh why did that not ring a bell in my head I’ll never know. So I have proceeded to print off “fight show” tickets for my 8yr old to take to school to hand out to his little friends because he couldn’t wait to do his “show”.

I get a call at 11am from the School safeguarding officer telling me we cannot promote violence in school and she has personally had to go round the whole school collecting the tickets back from the pupils.

Like I completely get it and I genuinely cannot believe that my stupid brain allowed me to send my son into school with tickets saying that. I feel like the worst mum ever 😩 I nearly started a royal rumble in my son’s playground. Anyway. Just thought I’d share my stupidity on this Friday afternoon. Hope you all have a lovely weekend. From the stupidest mum of the day x

I sent my yr kid on a school trip with a peanut butter sandwich. She had school meals and I hadn't made a packed lunch. It just didn't cross my mind. Went to collect her and said soggy sandwich was handed to me with a big telling off. Totally understandable, I know about allergies but it just didn't occur to me. Totally fucking stupid.

She was delighted, the teacher got a sandwich in m and s, which I obviously paid for.

This is adorable and hilarious! 😂 your son sounds like a real character and he's so lucky to have a mum that supports him with his creativity 💖

MotorOilHeiress · 04/10/2024 18:10

My brother was called into school to ask why when my nephew was asked to write 3 things beginning the letter V he wrote VODKA as one of them 🤣😋😉. Apparently it was my fault he knew the word at 6yrs old?!?! I was livid as I don't drink vodka usually wine only ha

You're so sweet, and so is he! Safeguarding has gone mad, they're not allowed a pretend wrestling show??

autienotnaughty · 04/10/2024 19:41

Lovely thread so nice to read everyone supporting the op☺️ I've gone along with things that have come back to bite me on the bum too op!!

RadixMalorum · 10/10/2024 14:19

I can’t believe this thread is only 3 pages long. This is monumental. Tickets look AWESOME. OP you are a legend.

TiramisuThief · 10/10/2024 14:23

That's awesome. Bless him, i bet the teachers laughed 😅

Definitely keep the tickets as a memento

Chiconbelge · 10/10/2024 14:23

Absolutely brilliant and guaranteed to be a family story to last a lifetime!

TENSsion · 10/10/2024 14:23

Can you come back after pick up and tell us who won?

😂😂

Please keep these tickets somewhere. They’ll be hilarious to reminisce over in 10 or so years xx

Demonhunter · 10/10/2024 14:27

Please say the names on the tickets were the fighter names, like Little Show vs The Pebble 😂

Aspecialplaceinhell · 10/10/2024 14:29

My friend has accidentally taught her 18 month old to say fuck sake - its brilliant he sounds so cute.

whathashapoenednow · 10/10/2024 14:38

😂😂😂

LookingOutMyWindow · 10/10/2024 14:38

🤣 I love the tickets
Reminds me of when I was younger (year 6) we had to write about our favourite program. All my friends were writing about The Simpsons or something from Cartoon Network, so what did I write about… Bottom, as in the series with Rik Mayall 🫣🫣 went into great detail about how funny it is when they fight in their flat, my only criticism was they went to the pub too often
🫣🤣… I still go red now when I think about that

GivingitToGod · 10/10/2024 14:39

KindOf · 04/10/2024 12:38

I think that’s funny and kind of sweet. I wouldn’t give it another thought.

This and a lesson learnt!

WanderleyWagon · 10/10/2024 14:39

It will be a great story in the fullness of time. Keep the show tickets - I'm sure he and the rest of your family will love to see them brought out when the story is told... :)

muggletops · 10/10/2024 14:56

haha at least you didnt open the betting book on it!! Would add gambling to the shame!! ahh its healthy for boys to have a rumble, maybe you can do it supervised with his friends parent present. My DS's used to love a rumble, their way of being physically close but staying 'cool' bless them.

lightrage · 10/10/2024 14:57

hahaha! I am cackling at those tickets- this is so funny 😂

Have you ever thought of being a boxing promoter OP? you'd be very good at it

Bonbon249 · 10/10/2024 14:57

First rule of Fight Show never talk about Fight Show! 😂😂😂 Sometimes, the train of thought doesn't quite reach the station, does it? Don't worry everyone has hard of brain days! I could fill a book with mine and I don't have kids!

Katiesaidthat · 10/10/2024 14:58

This is hilarious! So sweet of you.

Savingthehedgehogs · 10/10/2024 14:59

That’s hilarious!!!
Oh op you would be my friend if we were at the school gate together! I think you need to own this one and ride it out! I am sure the teachers were (eventually!) chuckling to themselves 😄

Cyclebabble · 10/10/2024 15:00

This bought a smile to my face I have to say. Just put your best straight face on and say you are very sorry to the school. This is indeed the stuff of family legends for years to come.

Savingthehedgehogs · 10/10/2024 15:01

I think he did very well circulating so many tickets !!

lololulu · 10/10/2024 15:03

Sounds like something I'd do.
Not think about it too much just do what my kid wants to make them happy then think afterwards.

darksideofthemoons · 10/10/2024 15:05

Oh OP- this is hilarious!

I did something equally stupid. Our dog is obsessed with sticks. When the kids were younger we used to collect the sticks she proudly brought back from walks and have stick competitions where we'd judge which stick was the best and keep the best one for her to carry around on her next walk.

One day unbeknownst to me my son took one of the sticks into school. I got a phone call from school informing me he had "brought in a weapon" to school and they wanted to talk to me about it. I tried to explain the stick competitions but then realised it was making me look even more batshit so I just promised it would never happen again.

We still laugh about it now.

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 10/10/2024 15:12

Ahh, bless you! I think that’s an adorable thing for you to have done! And the only reason it didn’t “click” with you is because you saw it for the innocence that it was. Of course the school was right to do what they did (the most innocent things are always misinterpreted by the minority) but that doesn’t take away the lovely thing you did for your boy, or how cute the whole thing is.
