I’ve done something really stupid

I’m sure everyone has done something really stupid before as a parent, but I think this has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. My DS came skipping out of school yesterday telling me how he wanted to make some tickets for the show was doing with his friend at playtime.

He said it was going to be a pretend wrestling show (alarm bell did not ring at wrestling show) and him and his friend had done a script and they.
He had his first drama lesson the other day so I thought he must be wanting to put a show on. He started making some tickets after school yesterday but said he’d not made enough.
So I offered to help him and we made some tickets and printed them off to hand out. He said he wanted to call it the (name) & (name) fight show.

Why oh why did that not ring a bell in my head I’ll never know. So I have proceeded to print off “fight show” tickets for my 8yr old to take to school to hand out to his little friends because he couldn’t wait to do his “show”.

I get a call at 11am from the School safeguarding officer telling me we cannot promote violence in school and she has personally had to go round the whole school collecting the tickets back from the pupils.

Like I completely get it and I genuinely cannot believe that my stupid brain allowed me to send my son into school with tickets saying that. I feel like the worst mum ever 😩 I nearly started a royal rumble in my son’s playground. Anyway. Just thought I’d share my stupidity on this Friday afternoon. Hope you all have a lovely weekend. From the stupidest mum of the day x

My boys are both adults now, but sometimes I hear them talking about stupid things I have done over the years, and they speak so fondly and with such love and laughter about everything. I love it.

This will be THE best memory for him, and he will be in hysterics when he gets a bit older and understands.

Great parenting by you, there are definitely worse things than being too enthusiastic in supporting your child 🤣

DiscoinFrisco · 04/10/2024 14:24

Sorry i cross posted about Fight Show Roolz

MilesOfCarpetTiles · 04/10/2024 14:26

Don't back down OP, threaten to take your own fight show to the head's office if they continue to restrict your son's freedom of expression Grin

I know you mean well but tbh I wouldn't like my primary school bring that ticket home.
But Don't worry! Worse things happen at school!

PriyaPT · 04/10/2024 14:32

Op that’s hilarious!!!

I think it’s quite a shame as there’s nothing wrong with a fair, well organised fight between two consenting parties 😂

Please keep and frame the email from the safeguarding officer. It’s so much better than the pathetic “please cut grapes in half” messages I usually get.

I wish you were my mum.

PriyaPT · 04/10/2024 14:33

@InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom you are so right! We always remember the times our mum got REALLY cross with us, and the times she did something lovably bonkers.

I've just spluttered my coffee.
Haven't done that but TBF mine is only two but I did accidentally teach her climbing up something dangerous.

MonsieurBlobby · 04/10/2024 14:35

Genuinely laughing out loud at the picture of the tickets 😂 😂 😂 This is one your son will be telling people about forever OP!

MeMyCatsAndI · 04/10/2024 14:37

😂😂😂😂😂 those tickets look professional as well!

Cheepcheepcheep · 04/10/2024 14:37

Oh OP I love this! I'm sorry, I'd be exactly like you if it happened to me but it's genuinely so sweet, what a kind mum you are. We all have the odd moment, before you know it you'll be laughing about it... (probably!!)

Ifnottodaywhen · 04/10/2024 14:49

This is so sweet. 😊

If it makes you feel any better I'll tell this story.

When my eldest was in reception they had to create a poster of someone they admired.

I was working evenings at that point so DH helped her with it.

She had recently watched a film on Timogin (not sure of spelling) and his life of trials and tribulations and so duly made a poster about this person.

Timogin grew up to be Ghengis Kahn. (The film stopped before he did the Ghengis stuff).

Yes, my 5 year old took a detailed poster of Ghengis Kahn into school and proudly presented it as someone she admired. 😳🙄

rainfallpurevividcat · 04/10/2024 14:49

Squirrel away this story for his wedding 😀

If it makes you feel better op, once I went in for parents night, was looking through the book of little stories and pictures of what had happened that weekend, and ds had drawn a picture of me when I slipped coming out of the bath - complete with a full on bush and boobs like spaniels ears.

It was almost 20 years ago and I still have the picture somewhere 🤣

Wishboneswishes · 04/10/2024 15:25

This thread has made my day!
OP you are a legend as is your DS.
You’ll be the talk of the staff room but I’m sure everyone will just think it’s hilarious!

Valuable teaching moment.... first rule of Fight Club. Second rule, don't make tickets for it 😂

Genuis they scripted their performance. Hope you've got a junior drama club he can join and foster his writing skills.

Maybe don't buy a copy of Fight Club for the school library!

loropianalover · 04/10/2024 15:36

The picture of the tickets really had me laughing 🤣🤣 the picture of the two wrestlers!!! And the official start time.

OP definitely keep a few of them and stick them in a photo album/memory book! They will be so funny to look back on in a few decades….

AutumnOcean · 04/10/2024 15:37

This is so cute. You sound like a fun mum

Intheband · 04/10/2024 15:39

How did pickup go? How's your son taken the news that his sell out show has been cancelled?

mumda · 04/10/2024 15:41

Get him and his friend to act it out with wrestling men toys. Film it. It sounds fab.

SingingSands · 04/10/2024 15:54

This has cracked me up - the tickets are brilliant 🤣🤣

Thanks for the laughs! You'll be laughing about it too... sometime in the future 😄

Pashpash24 · 04/10/2024 16:49

The picture on the tickets 🙈🙈🙈 literal man with arm up his back 🤣 school pick up was probably the fastest I’ve ever done. In and out and back driving home haha I couldn’t face the teachers! My son run over to me and we kind of both laughed like what have we done 🙈 you’ve all made me feel soooo much better so honestly thank you 🩷
