Hi there.. totally new to this! My wife and I are expecting our first baby together. We are a lesbian couple, and my wife is carrying our child conceived through stimulated IUI.

im wondering what the best formula to use is? I know the benefits etc of breastfeeding, but we really would rather formula feed. Recommendations please?

Thank you. I wasn't suggesting it to be an arsehole. I really do see a difference in my son like when he's poorly. He recovers super fast. Amazed by it. I'm not against formula. I'm sick of getting made out that I've being judgemental. Or just a horrible person who can't or doesn't know how to parent.

I understand where you are coming from . I used formula and I understand!! I don’t. Feel shamed it’s just a fact and it’s kind to say in case a parent isn’t aware . Colostrum if you have it (some don’t this is true) is easy to get it can just drip and you can fill a 1 ml syringe !

OP I used the aptimil formula it was a silver one ‘pro’ aptimil I think it was good

Exactly you don't even need to breastfeed to get it. People always take things the wrong way or read it wrong. I sometimes don't word things well but glad you understand. I gave my son ready made formula whilst breastfeeding cause he had tongue tie, was in so much pain till it got sorted and it didn't get sorted for a while. It got to the point I didn't want to feed him but formula helped so much. It was a relief.

Sounds like she does, because they are all making the same claims and she's still going to consider formula

It's very possible to make an informed decision to formula feed from birth. I did it myself.

Just because someone makes a different choice to you, it doesn't mean that they are less informed.

I don't feel ashamed to be formula feeding either but I also don't think it is kind to repeatedly go on about it, especially when the OP has made it clear that she is aware of the benefits of breastfeeding.

Most parents aware. Everyone knows breast is best.

Totally factual.

Gently, maybe it’s it’s not ‘people’ taking things wrongly, maybe it’s how you say them and that you say them in the wrong place. This was the wrong thread for posts about colostrum, however well meant it was. You’ve continued to post on the thread, well past it becoming apparent that you should have stopped and you have been outright asked to stop. This isn’t a thread about you/and your son, it’s about someone else who is making decisions for the biggest upheaval their life will ever see.
You could have commented that you used ready made formula and recommended whichever one it was, but you have instead said earlier in the thread that breast milk will never come close to formula. Gently, you do come across as a bit of a fanatic. I genuinely don’t understand why you’re still posting here. It’s seems to me like you’re looking for a fight and you won’t be happy until you’ve made every thread the ‘emmamoo89’ show. Prove me wrong and stay out of it on this one from now on.

I'm sorry but it is people taking it the wrong way. And I'm not looking for a fight. You don't even know me. I hate anything confrontational. It's a free country can give my opinion or suggestions. Just keep on scrolling.

I didn't see your reply before it got deleted.

I pointed out that some of the claims that formula manufacturers make are false. That's widely recognised in medical research. I listed some contaminants found in tiny quantities in formulas.
Also listed some of the elements in breastmilk that can't be replicated in artificial feeds.
I said that if medical needs dictate, then thank goodness we have formula as an alternative. One of my children was born without a mouth and had to have formula because was unable to suckle.
I concluded by saying that the reason some of us keep reminding people that it's better to breastfeed is because we care about children's health, just as those who campaigned against cigarette smoke around children also did it from good motives.

Apparently that was all too much????

Don't understand why it was deleted then as you didn't say anything wrong. I'm so sorry about your child. Breast is best because its natural and designed for babies. But I do understand why some can't breastfeed. And good to have formula as an alternative

Well my formula fed baby hasn’t been sick yet @Emmamoo89 so formula is superior to breastmilk if we are using our anecdotal evidence 🙄🙄🙄🙄 as mumsnet have said keep this thread on track. So that means someone with zero information to add about formula shouldn’t be posting on this thread at all. Why not go post on a thread about the best breed of dog to buy? It’s equally as relevant!

@Freddoforever not really sure why it’s important to know facts about breastfeeding on a thread specifically about formula brands? How does knowing facts about breastmilk help the op decide on a brand of formula ?

WindingRoadEveryday · 20/02/2023 18:49

They used to say it was too stressful for mothers to give up smoking when around small children.
Informed decisions are only possible when people know the facts.

Well I did mention ready made aptamil 🤷‍♀️ and good for your baby. But that's not healthy. Certainly won't help their immune system. Just saying breastmilk helped my son and also stopped him catching stuff too.

There is a mass of statistical information about which is healthier. Physical and mental advantages have been widely demonstrated for breastfeeding.

and again, it sounds like you think only people who made the same decision as you are capable of making an informed decision and are aware of the facts.

I formula feed, have from the start. Fully informed, I just made a different choice.
