Hesitant to have another baby with current Russian threat?

Possibly a bit daft but would the current Ukraine/Russia situation make you think again about having another baby? I have 2 dc (5 and 3) and have been thinking about having a third, but the current situation is making me anxious about the future and the thought of being pregnant if things get worse over here really frightens me. I guess my fear is not being able to access the care I’d need (I’d need a c section as I’ve had 2 already) if things really kicked off here. Am I being completely ridiculous?!

Yes

NameChange30 · 17/03/2022 21:45

Yes you are being ridiculous.
However, stopping at two is a sensible decision if you take Ukraine out of the equation.
This won't be a popular thing to say among people who have 3+ children but I think 2 is plenty.
For so many reasons, mainly because of the environment and global resources, but also because of your personal resources (time, financial, emotional).

titchy · 17/03/2022 21:48

Yes*

*Unless you live in Kyiv.

Samsalone · 17/03/2022 21:49

As per PP - stop at 2. Climate change is going to impact your children’s lives hugely as it is.

mangoandraspberries · 17/03/2022 21:53

Honestly I wouldn't make your decision on whether to go from 2-3 based in n Russia/Ukraine. It's a terrible situation, but there will always be uncertainty in the world and unless and until it directly impacts us here, I wouldn't let it drive fundamental decisions like this

Felinewoman · 17/03/2022 21:54

I don't think you're unreasonable. The current situation of our planet is a disaster. Our world is dying and then there's a psychopath starting war in Europe. Ukraine is not far away at all.
I am thinking about a second baby but the climate crisis and war is making me think twice

herecomesthehotsteppa · 17/03/2022 21:54

Agree with PP, more than 2 children isn't a good idea nowadays, but not because of Russia/Ukraine - that's just ridiculous

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 17/03/2022 21:55

Environmental damage, caused by overpopulation is so extreme and irreversible that you would be crazy to consider bringing another child into it. World peace is ever more distant too. Don't go there OP.

Tee20x · 17/03/2022 21:57

This is ridiculous. As others have mentioned there are more pertinent reasons to not have more children, though of course if you want to go for it.

Jamboree01 · 17/03/2022 22:00

I’d be more hesitant about them having to grow up under a Tory government

Whatinthelord · 17/03/2022 22:04

I wouldn’t base a decision on the situation in Ukraine. Theres always potential for conflict.

This with bells on!
AliceW89 · 17/03/2022 22:17

If you replace ‘Russia’ with ‘overpopulation, diminishing resources and climate change’ then yes, it would make me think twice.

AmbushedByCake1 · 17/03/2022 22:22

Having more than two kids isn't socially responsible.

Sugarbellaella · 17/03/2022 22:24

No one needs more than two children regardless of the reason

sm2510 · 17/03/2022 22:28

Thanks everyone. Of course climate change and overpopulation are huge issues and are one of the main reasons we haven’t jumped into having a 3rd child. I was just specifically asking about the current threat from Russia.

No one needs children at all.
Luredbyapomegranate · 17/03/2022 22:32

Yes you are.

But the economy doesn’t look all that cheery, so that might be a reason to take a minute before you go for it,

BrutusMcDogface · 17/03/2022 22:35

I hate threads like this. We have four. Do people judge us for not being socially responsible?

Whatinthelord · 17/03/2022 22:36

Why is it people think 3 is wrong but 2 ok? Bizarre.

BrutusMcDogface · 17/03/2022 22:36

Mind you, I won’t lie; if we were procreating right at this point, we wouldn’t have had 4. The world has gone to shit.

Whatinthelord · 17/03/2022 22:36

@AmbushedByCake1

Having more than two kids isn't socially responsible.
But having more than 1 is ok? Why the cut off at 2?
Suzi888 · 17/03/2022 22:38

The world has gone to shit. It’s not a nice place and sometimes I question if I should have had one tbh.

Ragwort · 17/03/2022 22:40

Brutus yes, people probably do. But equally people judge me for being 'selfish' by making a conscious choice to have only one child. Confused.

ukborn · 17/03/2022 22:41
