When do your children get washed?

So this is probably a strange one - please bear with me!
At the moment my children, 9 and 6, get a shower in the morning before school, and to be honest it causes problems most mornings as they stay in the shower for ages and we end up rushing to get ready on time/I end up shouting like a banshee to 'put your shooeeeeessss ooonnnnn'! Grin.
Some of my friends wash their kids at night, before bed.
So my random question is, when do you wash your kids?
If you wash them at night, I'm assuming they then put clean pants on? Do they then put clean pants on again in the morning, or not until the nighttime wash again (which in my mind is the same as them putting on clean pants in the morning then not changing them until the following morning after a wash, IYSWIM? Or clean pants night and morning? Or no pants and clean pjs every night? Confused

@sittingonacornflake

In fact now I'm curious, why don't people wear pants to bed? Should I not be wearing them? But then why wear them in the day if not at night? So many questions.
I think mainly because you always have pants on so just to get air basically. I prefer to wear pants though I’m not sure where I got the habit from Blush

DS doesn’t wear pants in bed though he’s 5

HelloDulling · 12/10/2020 21:04

Bath every night for my DC. PJs do about 3 nights, without pants.

I, on the other hand, am rarely parted from my pants, and bath every morning.

sufur · 12/10/2020 21:05

I feel I must join in on the pants/no pants to bed debate...

I'm a night-time pants wearer, always have been. Would be so strange to not wear them. I kind of get where the 'secretions' poster was coming from (...sorry 😬)

But if you wear pjs with no pants surely that means you have to wear clean pjs each night? Or it would be the equivalent of wearing the same pants for more than one night? Grim!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/10/2020 21:07

Evening, clean night knickers (looser than day ones), clean day knickers. Bits of wee when little, then when older discharge happen over night too

If you shower every morning so does it matter if you only change your pyjamas every 2 nights? You’re clean going about your day anyway. I sleep naked so irrelevant, but I can’t see why wearing pyjamas more than once is so ‘grim’ if you’re showering in the morning.
MiddlesexGirl · 12/10/2020 21:08

I wear a nightdress/chemise, no pants.
No private parts soiling(!) the bed linen and lots of airing Smile

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/10/2020 21:10

Some women get less discharge, some more, so some need knickers at night, some don’t. I wear cotton ones, they’re breathable and bigger size than the nigh ones.

Londoncatshed · 12/10/2020 21:12

If child wears pjs or a nightie to bed, why do they wear pants too? Bath at night, take off pjs in the morning, put on clean underwear and clothes. Job done.

DuchenneParent · 12/10/2020 21:12

Shower, clean PJs with no pants, bed. Wash face in the morning.

No need for pants if you change your PJs every night. It's nice to feel 'free' with just loose PJs and no clingy elastic (IMO).

SharpLily · 12/10/2020 21:12

Shower most evenings (it’s no great tragedy if they miss it for some reason, they’re only little) followed by clean nightie or PJs. Definitely no pants!

Clean clothes (including pants) in the morning. I really admire those of you who manage to make a school uniform last more than one day. My daughter comes out of school looking like some kind of swamp monster every day, there no way I could put her dirty uniform back on her, has to be clean every day. I’m clearly doing something wrong.

My husband and I also shower in the evenings, for the same reasons: to remove the dirt of the day. I don’t like the idea of going to bed without a shower - definitely no pants at night! I like to give my growler a bit of fresh air. My husband sleeps naked all year, I do in summer and I wear PJs of some kind if it’s cold. Sometimes just the top or just the bottoms, or if I want some freedom I’ll just wear bed socks 😃. I had no idea people wore pants in bed!

minipie · 12/10/2020 21:14

Wash in the evenings.
No pants in bed, just pjs. (I wear pants but no pjs)
I still end up shouting at them to get their shoes on.

IsurvivedbutdidI · 12/10/2020 21:15

I am so shocked that so many people don't wear pants in bed!! This is such a revelation to me! ShockShockShock

NaughtipussMaximus · 12/10/2020 21:16

Bath every night. Clean pants then and also in the morning. It’s not like it’s really adding to my laundry, seven extra little pairs of boxers a week.

frustrationcentral · 12/10/2020 21:16

DS1 (16) showers every morning and occasionally has a bath at night

DS2 (11) showers/baths every night. No way he'd be organised to have anything in the morning - mild LD

NaughtipussMaximus · 12/10/2020 21:17

And he wears pants because he wears pjs for two nights running.

Merename · 12/10/2020 21:17

I have been on few nighttime pants debates on MN before, so already had my eyes openEd to the fact that some women choose to wear pants at night! I am a no-pantser, for comfort and the breathing thing, I’d imagine there’s an increased risk of thrush having a gusset there 24/7 but I guess not since so many of you do it!

What is new to me is the idea of varied levels of discharge however, I am curious are we really talking ‘secretions’ to the level that it would dribble onto the sheets during the night? That makes me understand the desire to wear pants more.

Marmite27 · 12/10/2020 21:18

Mine have a bath or shower immediately on their return from school or nursery, and put clean clothes on. This was advised on our return to nursery paperwork in the summer. Even though the biggest is now at school we’ve carried on doing it.

Londoncatshed · 12/10/2020 21:19

We were brought up not to wear knickers to bed so would feel really strange to. Let it get some air 🤣. Underwear is for during the day under your clothes.

Merename · 12/10/2020 21:19

Oh yeah and my kids get washed when they are dirty looking, or DDs curly hair starts to get a bit matted! Probably 2-3 times a week, with a wee morning sink wash of bits, she’s nearly 5.

paintmywholehousepink · 12/10/2020 21:19

Bath & then bed.

paintmywholehousepink · 12/10/2020 21:20

Wearing pants to bed is odd imo.

loopylindazdaughter · 12/10/2020 21:20

Mmm bath at night, never really understood the shower in morning thing. They are then going to roll around and play in big laden buildings then come home and just stay like that??

Mine bathe at night after eating, my son (6) very rarely then gets dressed! He always complains about being hit so sleeps in the buff. Daughter (10) bobs on jammies no knicks. Clean undies /knicks in morning

Marmite27 · 12/10/2020 21:21

Pants depend on the time of year, if putting on ‘day’ clothes to play in the garden or go somewhere they had a fresh set of everything including pants.

At the moment it’s straight into pjs, so no pants.

paintmywholehousepink · 12/10/2020 21:21

When on earth do you air your bits? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️
