When do your children get washed?

So this is probably a strange one - please bear with me!
At the moment my children, 9 and 6, get a shower in the morning before school, and to be honest it causes problems most mornings as they stay in the shower for ages and we end up rushing to get ready on time/I end up shouting like a banshee to 'put your shooeeeeessss ooonnnnn'! Grin.
Some of my friends wash their kids at night, before bed.
So my random question is, when do you wash your kids?
If you wash them at night, I'm assuming they then put clean pants on? Do they then put clean pants on again in the morning, or not until the nighttime wash again (which in my mind is the same as them putting on clean pants in the morning then not changing them until the following morning after a wash, IYSWIM? Or clean pants night and morning? Or no pants and clean pjs every night? Confused

Why do they need to shower or bath each day? They aren't sweaty and smelly like teenagers but much cleaner than nappy stage....

My children slightly older wash their hands and face morning and night and shower or bath after football training mid week and once at weekend. More if needed but only if needed. Youngest extra as hoes to swimming lesson.

They don't wear pants... Just PJs (if anything) that are replaced after a bath/shower and not daily

icelollycraving · 12/10/2020 20:26

Ds has a shower at night. Clean pjs most nights.
If he hasn’t showered or perhaps had an accident, morning shower but that’s rare.
Pjs or occasionally just pants when it’s very warm, no pjs and pants situation. Let it all breathe a bit.

MrsRogerLima · 12/10/2020 20:26

7 and 4 here. Shower every other evening and washed in the sink in between and every morning.

Eldest won't wear anything in bed and hasn't since he was about 3 youngest wears clean jamas swapped out on shower nights.

I don't know what this madness is about pants in bed and secretions. If there's that much of it, maybe you need to see a doctor?

@happytoday73 I don't really have an answer - I guess when they were babies they'd have a little baby bath as part of their bedtime routine, and then it's just carried on as a daily thing, especially as we get a shower every morning.

4 year old bath every night. Mainly because its part of his bed routine. No pants in bed just pjs which we change every night becasue he makes a mess with breakfast.

I dont wear anything in bed, not does dp. In fact during the summer ds went to bed naked every now and then.

nickelbabe · 12/10/2020 20:27

Never.
Dd has always hated having a wash, so apart from hands and teeth she never washes.
She uses wet wipes for after a poo, so clean down there, and she washes her face when it's dirty.

So "never" is a bath and hair wash about once a month. Sometimes she'll bath more often but she hates having her hair washed so as long as it doesn't smell we let her leave it.
She has clean clothes every day.

She's always had bad ezcema so washing has absolutely hideous memories for her (it used to really hurt her, no matter how much emollient we used), so we don't push it as long as she cleans the parts thar are dirty.

Dyra · 12/10/2020 20:28

People don't wear pants to bed? Huh. My world view just altered fractionally.

Back on topic. I bathe my baby before bed a few times a week. She's only 13 months, so a long way off pants wearing to bed.

Fallowdeerhunter · 12/10/2020 20:28

I only wash my 5 year old 2-3 times a week. They don’t sweat so don’t get smelly/ dirty like adults

nickelbabe · 12/10/2020 20:29

Pants in bed....

I wear knickers because it feels weird not to. That's all.

MrsPworkingmummy · 12/10/2020 20:32

Our toddler has a bath most nights before bed as part of his bedtime routine. Our 8 year old DD has a shower and washes her hair on a Sunday and Thursday night. She wears clean uniform on Mon then again on Tuesday. She then wears a fresh set on Wed until the end of the week. Pyjamas changed every 5 nights or so. Her casual clothes and underwear are changed daily.

WettnWild · 12/10/2020 20:33

Maybe I’m just a really sorry for this moist person.
I feel naked and exposed without pants, I get too hot in pj bottoms so I’ve got to have something on.

Hangingtrousers · 12/10/2020 20:36

I wash my kids when they are dirty. Maybe a filthy day at nursery.. no set rules.. hair once a week as needed.

No pants in bed because they aren't comfy!!?

Indoctro · 12/10/2020 20:39

Bath or shower a couple times a week at night time, unless they are smelly . Washing daily is bad for children's skin I've always been led to believe. Boys are 4/6 years old.

They don't wear pants to bed just PJs which get washed/changed every couple of days unless breakfast is spilt on them etc.

Absy · 12/10/2020 20:40

Mine are 2 and 4. They bath sporadically, depending on how dirty they are, how late it is by the time they we’ve finished dinner and everything and how much I need to sit down for a bit (if they’re in the bath that’s more likely to happen). Hair washing happens when it starts looking grubby, ask DD’s hair is a nightmare to wash. Clean Pjs every couple of days, depending on how messy they get at breakfast. Nappy for DD, pants for DS. I couldn’t imagine trying to get them in and out of a bath in the morning. It’s bad enough just trying to get them fed and dressed and out the door. Morning routine has to be as simplified as possible, otherwise we would never leave home

Heartofglass12345 · 12/10/2020 20:41

My boys are 4 and 7 and bath every Wednesday and Sunday and if needed any other day. I wear pants and a vest top to bed, even as a kid I hated not wearing pants to bed but my mum was insistent on your don't wear pants to bed' Confused

ChristmasCarcass · 12/10/2020 20:42

Bath at night. Clean PJs, no pants. Flannel wash of face and hands in the morning, obviously clean pants. Prior to potty training, we flannel-washed his bits in a morning too (used cloth nappies and re-usable wipes, so we had plenty of clean cloths and it was no extra work to wash them).

I shower in a morning, but that is because I have curly hair and it gets messed up if I sleep on it wet.

wellerhugs5 · 12/10/2020 20:42

@sittingonacornflake

In fact now I'm curious, why don't people wear pants to bed? Should I not be wearing them? But then why wear them in the day if not at night? So many questions.
Me too!!!! This has turned into a hilarious thread, and one that I am thoroughly enjoying reading.

Incidentally, we are a 'no pants at bedtime' household, but we all wear pjs.
Grin

ttc93 · 12/10/2020 20:43

I was told never to wear underwear to bed, let it all breathe! 😂 that's what my Nanna used to tell me. I wore pjs or a nighty.

Now in my mid 20s and from being about 17 slept completely naked, no secretions on my sheets to the former poster! Maybe people aren't washing themselves thoroughly 😷

I have shower/bath every night before bed and then a wash down in the morning (face, pits and underneath).

I'm making the most out of sleeping naked before we have kids 😂

If I did have children they wouldn't wear pants to bed either, just feel like it would be really uncomfortable.

SaveAHorseRideAHighlander · 12/10/2020 20:47

Well what have I started! Grin You've all given me a laugh and something to read through for the night, I guess I'll just crack on (no pun intended)! 😂

I believe pants to bed are recommended for small ones, something to do with preventing worms I think? Hmm

Saying that, mine bath most nights and wear clean Pj's every other night unless they get covered in breakfast.

I sleep in PJ bottoms or clean knickers, I don't like the idea of naked privates on bedsheets that are only being changed once a week.

Terrace58 · 12/10/2020 20:53

Shower at night. That way the dirt of the day is washed off and the bed doesn’t get contaminated. (It’s a thing for me). Pants changed after washing or every 24 hours, whichever comes sooner.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/10/2020 20:56

My two get a dunking and clean pjs once a week, whether they need it or not...Blush

ConfusedcomMum · 12/10/2020 20:58

I didn't know it was common for people not to wear pants to bed 🙈

covidmonkey · 12/10/2020 20:58

Bath every second evening. Just pyjamas no pants.

hypochondriacseveywhere · 12/10/2020 21:01

I've never known any female to wear underwear to bed it's so uncomfortable. My kids don't wear underwear to bed either. Have a bath or a shower every night or second night depending on how mucky they get from during the day.
