When do your children get washed?

SaveAHorseRideAHighlander · 12/10/2020 20:05

So this is probably a strange one - please bear with me!
At the moment my children, 9 and 6, get a shower in the morning before school, and to be honest it causes problems most mornings as they stay in the shower for ages and we end up rushing to get ready on time/I end up shouting like a banshee to 'put your shooeeeeessss ooonnnnn'! Grin.
Some of my friends wash their kids at night, before bed.
So my random question is, when do you wash your kids?
If you wash them at night, I'm assuming they then put clean pants on? Do they then put clean pants on again in the morning, or not until the nighttime wash again (which in my mind is the same as them putting on clean pants in the morning then not changing them until the following morning after a wash, IYSWIM? Or clean pants night and morning? Or no pants and clean pjs every night? Confused

@DappledThings

Pants in bed is really weird to me. I had no idea people did this.

I only knew from a previous MN debate on the same subject.

Bath or shower before bed. Quick was in the morning.
No undies for bed.

Bath at night. Clean Pajamas, clean clothes in the morning. Clean body at night means cleaner bed - no dirt and grime and who knows what else getting into the mattress. Plus my kids have allergies so they need to take a bath at night so they can sleep.

Then I will make sure my kids wash their face and Hands before they go to school.

I prefer pjs to be 100% cotton and loose fitting. It is more breathable this way

The ‘let it breathe’ thing cracks me up. It’s total nonsense, an old wives tale.

Wearing pants to bed or not is complete preference or habit.

@whatswithtodaytoday

Why are children wearing pants in bed? (And what a weird sentence to write.) No adults wear pants in bed, so why would children need to?

Mine is still in nappies so not relevant, but I imagine we'll carry on doing a bath at night and clean pjs every two or three days depending on how dirty they get.

I'm an adult, and I wear pants in bed.

I've never known any female to wear underwear to bed it's so uncomfortable.

This is amazing stuff!

I have never NOT known a female to wear pants to bed! Includes all female relatives, all my various housemates over the years, friends I travelled with, went away for weekends with.

I can't even imagine not wearing pants.

(And side note: how is it any more uncomfortable than wearing pants during the day? 😀)

Shower or bath after school. Its done and dusted then and it doesn't impact on getting ready for school or getting ready for bed.

On the kids issue, mine are now 9, 11 & 13. Daily showers a must. My 9 yo (boy) has become v stinky recently.

They have sports almost every night so do it after that.

Although they are plenty old to sort themselves out, the 9 & 11 yo (boys 🙄) need constant watching. If they think I'm leaving them entirely unsupervised, they have been to known to get into shower, splash some water, and get out, minus any actual ablution. I hit the roof over that one.

Clean PJs for boys every second night, my DD changes them herself as she feels like.

And yes. Pants. Pants each night. Pants always.

This thread has been a revelation. I never knew about 'no pants' & it has been hard to read 😂

You know that feeling when you take your bra off at the end of the day? I feel that with all clothes. Especially anything close fitting like pants or trousers, or anything with a waistband.

I also hate the slightly damp sweaty feeling of pants that have been worn all night. I feel cleaner without.

Loose nightie or nothing for me.

This is hilarious, I'm realising that not everyone thinks like me 😀

I've never had that bra issue either, I know loads of women do tho (quite possibly due to my sadly small chest)

The 'slightly damp' pants feeling? 🙈 nope, not a thing for me.

Pants to bed! Didn't know people did that. Only when I am on my period.

Young Dc - bath most nights, freshen up wash with flannel, soap and water in morning and if bit late for a bath, hair wash twice a week. Clean pyjamas every few days, clean pants under pyjamas and every morning.

I’m surprised at the amount of people who don’t wear pants to bed. I find it easier to change underwear twice a day than wear fresh pyjamas nightly, which you’d need if it was worn without pants. Then again, I’ve never been someone who’s particularly sweaty so perhaps that wouldn’t work for those who do sweat a lot in bed, as their pjs would get icky anyway?

Feeling like we're a bit grim here. A bath a couple of evenings a week, maybe 3 if particularly grimy. They don't smell and my youngest has eczema. His allergy doctor said try go as long as possible between baths so maybe that's stuck!

Are you not worried about Covid? I’m not overly anxious but since Covid and back to school I have changed DS bath routine.

Usually after school there’s no urgent rush to strip him down and bath him now with all the cases at the schools I pay more attention and bath him as soon as we are home from school.

Oilatum is good to put in the bath for eczema.

Why do you state everyone would need new pyjamas nightly? I wear pyjamas without pants and wear my pyjamas for a week. I'm only sleeping in them

To me there's a clear binary between being dressed (underwear and clothes) and not dressed (pyjamas). Never occurred to me to blur the lines!

I have never thought about this before...but I'm another one who wears pants to bed! I shower at night, put clean knickers on, a baggy tshirt and thats me done. It feels weird wearing no pants, I have a habit of sticking one leg out over the duvet and it would just feel abit breezy without pants. I don't see how it's any different to wearing pj bottoms? If i wore pj bottoms and no pants, I wouldn't be then wearing them the next night.
In fact I would just rather not wear anything at all then wear pj bottoms without knickers

My DC is only 13 months, has a bath every other night (or whenever DC has got particularly dirty!) and a flannel wash for non bath nights.

What does it matter what you are doing in them?!?

You're still wearing them without pants so ofc they need to be changed 🤢

Absolutely at night, we have enough stress in the morning. Mine insist on pants for bed so clean pants after shower, and again in the morning.

Showers mainky, bath on sunday if we can fit it in before dinner, I hate doing sunday lunch / dinner and then having to do the whole bath thing.

You must have very comfortable pants if you can sleep in them. Jeans are common in the U.S. and they are so uncomfortable to sleep in

Or am I getting confused? I wear what you call pajama pants

Report

DS has a bath at night and then pyjamas (no pants) and then clean pants in the morning. Hes 5.5 and sometimes has an accident in the night, so if that happens we get him to have a quick shower before school.

DD is 2 and still in nappies, and has a bath at night, fresh pull up and pj's for bed and first thing in the morning.

I'd never thought about putting them in pants- always assumed pyjamas would be enough? I don't want to add to my washing pile!
