We spent last Sunday with some 'first baby' couples. I know we've all been there. But, really......

This was at my MIL's with Mr Bubble's cousins and their babies.

One had a NASA style baby monitor and both couples arrived with travel cots with cat-covers.

One asked Mr Bubble where the cat was and he said that it had seen sense and scarpered. A 'cat-hunt' then ensued, even though this particular baby was in an autoclaved, temperature-controlled, cat-netted travel cot.

Mr Bubble buggered off to play with the big Bubble boys, leaving me to listen to puke-making cooing and discussions about Baby Mozart.

Puke.

Was I ever that bad?

Answer.

Probably.

Great thread !

We have two cats and before DS1 arrived I set the pram up in the hallway so the cats could get used to it being around etc etc. Also put a cat net on the pram - yes I found one cat playing tramopolines on it who then got tied and fell asleep in the pram !!

I also had cat net for the cot , so when DS1 moved into cot from moses basket ( from the safe enviorment of our bedroom ) I put cat net on cot.

After two nights it was such a bloody nusiance taking on and off then I never bothered after that. He had more chance of being smothered by cat net not than a cat.

Anyway once DS was born the cats ran out of the room any time there was a noise .

I do remeber the temperature thing and how many blankets and oh so much more theat makes me cringe ....

Just remembered as I was chucking out the last of dd's bottles this afternoon - when I was first bf, I expressed each breast til they were empty (took forever, damn handpump!)and took notes on how much was in each, just so's I'd know how much dd was taking in a feed from each individual breast... like she ever actually emptied a breast at any one feed and they'd always have exactly the same amount in them...

PMSL at this, esp Cat Hammock!

Why does everyone when you are pregnant and a cat owner say "OOh you'll have to be careful" We bought a cat net out of guilt but gave to my mil (her cat is bonkers) when we realised there was no way in hell our mogz were going ANYWHERE near the small screaming creature.

I do admit to chucking cat out of cot (she's persistant) and I admit to steam sterlising each bottle and pouring in (cooled) bolied water for each feed. I completely misunderstood new rules on this. Feel stupid when I think about this now... what a numpty, a very tired numpty!

Procedure for dealing with a dropped dummy before giving it back to baby.
1st baby: (if it's got one at all, dreadful yukky things) - you sterilize it.
2nd baby: (principles have gone to pot and you've given in for sake of sanity) - you rinse it under the tap.
3rd (or subsequent) baby: you blow on it.

Catnets??? I honestly had never heard of such a thing before reading this. Are they really to stop cats smothering babies? Or is there some other reason?

We often used to find the cat curled up with DD in her cot when she was tiny. Used to half heartedly chuck her out, but she'd usually be back again...

Brill thread . Our cat needs a toddler net. DS has tried to strangle her with washing line, cut her whiskers and painted her blue (with gloss)
...that was expensive.
She on the other hand has never laid a claw on his delicate ickle baby skin.
I keep thinking we're gonna get reported to some charity and have her taken away.

Toddler net heheheh! You need to patent that! I swear mt cat tries to ebay my ds in the midst of the night!
