We spent last Sunday with some 'first baby' couples. I know we've all been there. But, really......

This was at my MIL's with Mr Bubble's cousins and their babies.

One had a NASA style baby monitor and both couples arrived with travel cots with cat-covers.

One asked Mr Bubble where the cat was and he said that it had seen sense and scarpered. A 'cat-hunt' then ensued, even though this particular baby was in an autoclaved, temperature-controlled, cat-netted travel cot.

Mr Bubble buggered off to play with the big Bubble boys, leaving me to listen to puke-making cooing and discussions about Baby Mozart.

Puke.

Was I ever that bad?

Answer.

Probably.

My ds (2) looks at all the baby photos of older sister - hundreds - and asks "that me?". I just say "em... yes...".

rowan1971 · 01/05/2007 21:42

Oh god, the time it used to take me to change DS1's nappy. At least 20 minutes. Hand-hot water, cotton wool swabs, three protective layers on the changing surface... lawks. Takes me about 20 seconds these days.

Bubble99 · 01/05/2007 21:43

PMSL, Bobs.

I could have wallpapered our house with pictures of DS1.

Love the 'gender confusion' aspect to your deviousness, too.

Even six months on I think I was bloody ridiculous when my DD was first born. God I was precious!

I made everyone use alcohol hand gel in the hospital and everything .

I will have to try hard and be understanding with new parents now.

Bubble99 · 01/05/2007 21:44

MI.

There was deffo some 'competitive sleeping' stuff going on, too.

i wished i had had a toggle rating thing had loads of thermometers though

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2007 21:48

I really am failing miserably. I am currently 38 weeks with what should be a PFB. When does the madness kick in? I don't have a cat net- can probably say with some degree of certainty that our cat is upstairs in the cot atm and I can't be bothered to stop her. No sterilising equipment either. Should I be craving baby gros with 'Daddy's beautiful princess' emblazoned on them? No black out curtains. Got a monitor somewhere, in a drawer I think, no batteries.

What will the health visitor say?

mishw · 01/05/2007 21:50

don;t worry showofhands - it will happen

beansprout · 01/05/2007 21:50

I love PFB threads

Porcupine · 01/05/2007 21:50

lolol

Nikki76 · 01/05/2007 21:52

PMSL at Marthamoo and blankets - I did exactly same thing with DS and the thermometer too! Was terrified of overheating! Can remember having 30min discussions with DH on whether to put an extra layer on him or not.....

shonaspurtle · 01/05/2007 21:52

Oh how I larfed when db arrived at my mum's with my 2 week old nephew, several bags and a large assortment of toys. He's 2 weeks old I guffawed in a condescending and intensly irritating way to my mum. I had no children at this point.

Fast forward a year, and I spent about 20 minutes the other day before setting off for parents looking for ds's favourite teddy... fgs he's 5 months old - anything that will fit in his mouth is his favourite!

Still taking photos practically every day but didn't buy a cat net. Cat has yet to voluntarily get within 2 feet of ds.

motherinferior · 01/05/2007 21:52

Actually I quite yearn for a pair of Musical Pants of my own. I could wear them on public transport.

Bubble99 · 01/05/2007 21:53

Show. It will kick in after you give birth when you, with our blessing and approval, spend the first 24 hours gazing at the beautiful little thing that you have created.

We'll sanction that.

But just don't get silly, will you?

And do listen to (recent) 'old-hands', too.

Unless they tell you to wean your baby onto pureed sausages at 2 weeks.

PMSL @ NASA baby monitor.

franca70 · 01/05/2007 21:54

tell us more about competitive sleeping bubble.

cece · 01/05/2007 21:55

I was furious at my sister's wedding. My aunt put some of the profitterole choc on her finger and gave it to DD at 12 weeks. LOL I was convinced she would be poisoned by the unhygenic application and the too early entry of food! LOL The look I must have given her>>>

motherinferior · 01/05/2007 21:55

Show, the thing is you don't think, at the time, that there is anything peculiar whatsoever in your behaviour. As you refuse to sleep because you're 'too worried' about the baby stopping breathing...and your equally bonkers partner nobly stays awake and monitors the baby's sleep cycle for you

Bubble99 · 01/05/2007 21:55

MI. You do have a yearning for these pants, don't you?

Oh lovely. Something for me to look forward to- sounds like inevitable madness. I think DH is already infected. Told me today that our baby won't be having Calpol or Baby Nurofen until at least a year old. They're bought and in the first aid kit in anticipation of his complete turnaround in opinion. I'm sure I'll be joining him on the dark side soon.

marthamoo · 01/05/2007 21:59

I've probably still got the little speaker thing somewhere...

franca70 · 01/05/2007 21:59

my bf in still has a PFB syndrome, after 3 yrs. Once her dh told off mine because he played peek a boo with their dd. she was 14 months at that time...

franca70 · 01/05/2007 22:01

bubble
and they probably think she does that because of their particularly relaxing techniques and the cat net.

Tamum · 01/05/2007 22:02

Apart from moo's superb contributions, my favourite is still mb, who lay under the babygym with her PFB.
