Does anyone know if I can clear it myself or will we need a plumber? It's just filling up too much when you flush it, and then not all the water drains away. Thought of various reasons, then realised we have been getting different liners lately as have cancelled our nappy laundry service - and looking at the packet, the Boots disposable nappy liners are NOT flushable WTF is the point of that?

You are not going to believe this. They just came and did it for free because the bloke had been up since 4 am and could not be bothered to charge us for it :

This is too late for franny, but I have improvised a plunger by cutting the bottom off a lemonade bottle and plunging the bottle up and down in the toilet repeatedly. This unblocks all our blockages so far, which have probably been caused by baby wipes. I use washable wipes on the baby, but DH uses disposable wipes on the 3 year olds bum.

I am waiting for something else to happen now. The blocked drain did feel a bit like vengeance from above, so is this a last minute reprieve, or just someone having a laugh?

He did also say if we have any further problems it is in fact a shared drain and bills should be split between us and our neighbours either side. Next door did wander out at one point and say "Oh our toilet's been a bit funny as well, the kids dropped a whole roll of paper down the loo last week"

Mr Dynorod seemed to think it was tree roots. I never flushed any tree roots, I am positive of that.

Franny, so glad you are not swimming in sweetcorn and shit anymore! Get the drain checked out by enviromental health whilst it is still clear so that if tree roots are threatening the drain, you all know it is a shared drain.

Nope, it's a 70s house

One set of neighbours were out the front when all this occurred, and said "Let us know if you do get a bill in the end". Other side are total sweethearts and would certainly pitch in if it was a shared responsibility.

Robin, I don't quite get it - how can I get environmental health to come out?

Oh just read this thread and have rushed to chuck out Boots Liners to make sure our Georgian drains don't spew them back at us. To avoid in future, anyone interested (?) i know my Mothercare sells PHP flushable nappy liners.
