It's something I've never considered, so I've muddled through on a bunch of rationales gained from my own experience of life, things I've read..not particularly child care manuals...and no research papers that I can think of at the moment..did some education theory and psychology study at one time but not for the purpose of working out how to raise my kids...

So, do you have subjective opinions about child rearing or have you got evidence you are doing things right?

Just to be complete opposite of my parents..then we should be on a winning combination

A few people have commented on the Philip Larkin quote..but in that context it is interesting to see that it's possible to break a cycle which we're often told is set up between parents and children

Also noticed that having a talking realtionship with children is important but I think that is one of the hardest things to achieve and also does depend on personality. I don't think it necessarily follows that openness from parents naturally leads to teenagers who take you into their confidence (or even talk to you)although of course it may do..
