Gosh, you've changed it once already?? Go on, what is it? Why don't you like it?

Eugenius · 25/07/2005 14:38

wouldn't you have to discuss it with your partner?

I don't know whether you should bothered to change it legally just call her the name you liked - then stick to it!

madmarchhare · 25/07/2005 14:39

When did you change it the first time? Has it been registered?

misdee · 25/07/2005 14:39

i am a bit concerned now about dd3 middle name .

nutcracker · 25/07/2005 14:40

Oh no Misdee your Dd3's names are lovely.

aloha · 25/07/2005 14:40

Seriously, I think for some people (like, um, me) making a permanent decision is incredibly stressful. Found it very hard to name dd - Mumsnet did it for me in the end
Very happy with it, but hardly ever call her by it. Mostly 'dolly' 'baby' and 'Poppy Loppy"

misdee · 25/07/2005 14:41

dd3 hardly gets called her name, ost people call her nina.

my mums name is virginia, but everyone has called her jenny for years.

Caligula · 25/07/2005 14:41

Change it, change it! I changed my dd's and still wonder whether I did the right thing! Is it registered yet? You know you can change it on the birth certificate up to a year, don't you? Then after that, you can still change it, but you can't change the birth certificate.

marthamoo · 25/07/2005 14:44

I think names are hard too - if it's any consolation, the name ds1 would have been had he been a girl, I hate now: can't imagine having a child called it.

That was appalling grammar but ykwim.

marthamoo · 25/07/2005 14:44

Perhaps we should all have a big swap round every couple of years?

madmarchhare · 25/07/2005 14:46

Caligula - didnt know that you could change it on certifacte up to a year. Thank god I didnt, I would have been doing it on a whim every time I went into town!

madmarchhare · 25/07/2005 14:47

Certificate

aloha · 25/07/2005 14:47

I still find myself - six months on - idly thinking up more names! And I LIKE her name.
Is it really that you don't like the name, or is it just the permanence of the decision that's freaking you out?

motherinferior · 25/07/2005 14:47

I know a very nice MNer who changed her son's name at a year.

motherinferior · 25/07/2005 14:48

And I've wondered about DD2's name, frequently...

misdee · 25/07/2005 14:48

what did u call your dd in the end aloha?

aloha · 25/07/2005 14:51

Cecily Frances, Misdee (was hesitating about posting it then realised there's a huge great thread on it somewhere!)

katierocket · 25/07/2005 14:52

lovely aloha. my mum is called Frances

chrissi, change it.

handlemecarefully · 25/07/2005 14:52

I wonder about dd's name (Lily), as it is too commonplace for my liking. Not that I wish I'd call her 'honey - apple blossom pear' or anything...I am very certain about ds' fab name (Christian) - partly inspired by the rather delectable Christian Bale but don't tell dh that.

If you don't like her name change it - at this tender age it is matterless to her. Do you think you'll stick with her new name though?

Eugenius · 25/07/2005 14:54

chrissi must have down to the Registrar

misdee · 25/07/2005 14:54

Thats lovely.

and chrissi, whats your dd called and what do u want to call her?

nutcracker · 25/07/2005 14:55

I don't like Dd2's name really (dp chose it) as it is too common (no offense intended), but I don't think I could change it, would seem wrong to me.

nutcracker · 25/07/2005 14:55

Mind you Dd2 is 5 now, i might have changed it when she was a baby if i'd know i could.

lunachic · 25/07/2005 14:56

can change it by deed poll i feel the same about my dd middle name havent got round to changing it yet
hmc my dd is called lillia -lily for short and i love the name we named her after her grandmother lillian so it was always going to be her name its not that common there are far commoner names and i think you will always meet other children with the same names unless you choose something totally outrageous (and probably awful !!

handlemecarefully · 25/07/2005 15:02

you're probably right lunachic!
