DD's name suits HER perfectly. It honestly does. She sort of grew into it. Her dad and the midwives chose it. And all who meet her remark, 'Yep, she looks just like a wee Aillidh.' So she is.

chrissi · 25/07/2005 15:05

She was Hannah but the H seemed to get missed by most people and i didn't want an Anna!... so shes registered Megan Hannah... to be called Megan/Meg/Meggy BUT i wish i'd called her Fleur!

My sister didn't like DD's name but I did and stuck with it. She likes it now.

Come to think of it, I didn't like her DS's name but got used to it and couldn't imagine him being called anything else now.

misdee · 25/07/2005 15:07

well call her fleur, u dont need to legally change your babies name on birth cert. you can call yourself anything you want. so i am going to rename myself 'Misdee The All Great and Wonderful and Everyone Must Worship Me'

Eugenius · 25/07/2005 15:07

sorry - don't like Fleur at all - Hannah is a lovely name (so is Anna)

roosmum · 25/07/2005 15:08

chrissi, fwiw i think megan hannah is lovely - actually much nicer than fleur, imo.

but obviously it's up to you, hope you get it sorted one way or the other

madmarchhare · 25/07/2005 15:08

Chrissi, they are lovely names, so why dont you get yourself down to the registry office, add Fleur to her existing name and then call her anyone one of them.

handlemecarefully · 25/07/2005 15:09

Not that it's any of my business, but I'm not keen on Fleur either.....

Still, if you really want it then change it

lunachic · 25/07/2005 15:09

yep me too i prefer hannah to fleur but naming is such a personal decision
im not sure about lillia which is why i call my dd lily

lunachic · 25/07/2005 15:10

good idea mmh

kid · 25/07/2005 15:10

I think Megan is a lovely name.

tortoiseshell · 25/07/2005 15:11

Tbh, I prefer Megan Hannah to Fleur, but why not add Fleur in as a middle name, as madmarchhare suggested, then you have the choice of 3 beautiful names.

Kelly1978 · 25/07/2005 15:13

I also prefer megan hannah. Megan is a lovely name. Also not keen on Fleur.

I still wonder about my dts. It was a nightmare finding two Indian names we both liked and worked ok together, and one of the names we didnt have in the end I kind of regret.

Stargazer · 25/07/2005 15:28

Hi Chrissi - I'm with most of the people here - think Megan Hannah is a lovely name. However, if you really don't like it and she's already registered you simply call her what you want to call her.

My grandmother hated her given name and from the time she was able she called herself Jean! I happen to like her given names, but won't use them as she's now dead and hated them passionately.

I'm not sure that Fleur is better than Megan or Hannah, but it's certainly different. Hope this helps.

Please rate the following options:
Megan Phillipson
Hannah Phillipson
Fleur Phillipson
Sophie Phillipson

I like them all apart from fleur to be honest.

roosmum · 25/07/2005 15:32

phillipson is a firly sound surname, ie think it could manage most christian names.

of your list tho, still prefer megan (& fleur least fave - but all up to you of course).
hth

Kelly1978 · 25/07/2005 15:33

love megan, like sophie a lot. Hannah is also very nice, not keen on fleur.

Enid · 25/07/2005 15:35

Meg Phillipson sounds lovely

Sophie doesnt really 'go' with Phillipson, too many Fs. Same prob with Fleur.

elliott · 25/07/2005 15:35

my personal fave is Hannah, but that's really not the point is it? I'm interested to know what has put you off Megan and Hannah. Or is it that you really always wanted fleur but weren't brave enough to do it? I guess because it is unusual, you will have more strong reactions to it if you do decide to go ahead (as evidenced below!) - that's not a reason not to, if you love it and think it suits her!

I had huge doubts about both mine, even after they were born. I find though that the older they get, the more comfortable I am with the names as they just merge with the person, iyswim. I've found the same with friends children - even if my initial reaction to a name is 'ugh', in time as I get to knwo the child I usually come to regard the name with affection!

ScummyMummy · 25/07/2005 15:35
  1. Hannah
2. Sophie 3. Megan 4. Fleur
aloha · 25/07/2005 15:35

Well I like Fleur but I also think she has a very pretty name right now. I also know quite a few adults who have always called themselves something different to their given name - an elderly Patricia who is really a Lucy, a John who was born Brian and a Rhian who has never used her first given name so I can't remember what it is!

ScummyMummy · 25/07/2005 15:36

I like Meg better than Megan.

aloha · 25/07/2005 15:36

I think Fleur is more unusual, if that matters to you. And agree that the name becomes as one with the person over time.

bossykate · 25/07/2005 15:37

i keep thinking of girls' names i really like - but i don't want to change dd's name - instead i think i should have another one so that i can use one of them
