I-ve always wondered about that Buch.

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 10:29

Helloooooo!

A few flakes of snow here.

Hope you will have a good year all you lovely ladies!!! No black dog, or horrible things like that.., like feeling like an old wet mop left in a corner.

Agree that Gomorra is a very hard read, beautifully written I found, but angosciante..Made me feel guilty too about everything I do, boh.

True the Guardian has list of ethical places, but they ARE EXPENSIVE. "If only people were prepared to pay more for their clothes" they seem to say. But "most people cannot" .

I agree that UGGS are the best winter buy though.

TheMysticMasseuse · 06/01/2010 14:59

ciao ragazze,

taking a little break from unpacking... done the kitchen, starting on the bedroom... am getting a massive headache from all the dust (allergy etc). I feel i am really becoming stepfordy, today i have shovelled snow and sawn (sewn? segato....) 4 iron rods to fit in cupboards. i have also done other random bits of diy and briefly thought a tool belt would be rather handy

Swiss stepfordom is bloody hard work though, with all the shovelling etc... my nextdoor neighbour is 82 years old and is going skiing next week, on her own because her nephew is not fit enough! She declared me "charmante" though, which i guess is nice, and is also the only nice thing any swiss person has said to me to date... i am feeling like a clueless retard and even the bus driver yells at me cos i use the wrong door, and shop assistants pretend not to understand what i say.....

Penthe I am absolutely blown away by your new year res... no way i could do it, but i wish i could, my cupboard is bursting and yet i always wear the same 3 things!

Camomilla · 06/01/2010 15:39

MI - wow, time's gone quickly, less than a week now.

and babySG must be pretty ready now!

MM, don't worry, got shouted at the other day by a bus driver here too (normally only use long bus in victoria, where you can get on through both doors and don't show the ticket, and had completly forgotten "normal" bus etiquette when I got on the bus in suburbia...). your neighbour sounds great!

hello buch and penthe!!

penthe, I wish I could, but can never resist the sales.... and yes, always wear the same stuff, and same colour, from shades of grey to black. so tempted to order uggs I found, they're just to comfy (especially in the office where it's sooooooooo cold!!) they say genuine and look it, though at half the normal price.... shall I trust them?

yeeeesss! finally it's snowing properly here, we did get a bit of snow, but not real snowman material (not that it stopped the DC playing outside, with dd refusing the wear gloves and constantly carrying a snowball in her hand !

back to work now...

TheMysticMasseuse · 06/01/2010 15:57

ah yes Minerva... GOOOOOD LUCK don't be terrified, i am sure when you don your black suit and killer heels on Monday morning and get to use your nice handbag again (don't get offended, you maybe use your killer heels and nice handbag all the time... i am just projecting!!!) you will feel empowered and ready to take on the world.

Plus probably everyone in your office is terrified of you, after all you are a City girl!

Sput, LOL, yes of course London bus drivers are awful too so perhaps it's not a geneva thing but a bus driver thing...

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 15:57

Hello and buona befana ladies !!

Sputnik: snap! Yes, you'd think that all those high end designers companies paid their employees well etc, when in fact they use external companies which they pay a pittance and mostly in nero (in fact, when I used to work in fashion I was paid a pittance and no contributi )

Hello McNulty!! How are things? Are you trapped in the snow?

MM, your neighbour sounds lovely .

Camo, beware of those websites! Someone posted a link to a website selling cheap ugg boots and apparently they are fake ! this, on the other hand, I believe is well regarded

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 15:59

YO Masseuse!!!

Camomilla · 06/01/2010 16:22

yes, buona Befana!!! at least we got to celebrate it with the school closed (dc's stockings were full to DS's delight , and mine so I don't have to hear "when's the witch coming again?" every 5 minutes

franca, thanks, I'll check that thread

agree MM, I enjoy having the "excuse" to go to work to dress decently, after living in baggy trousers for nearly 2 years, between pg and post-pg. (had to laugh though at my boss yesterday when she said I'm always immaculate - she should see me now, with thick black skiing type tights (felpate), dad's old grey/green long thick wool cardy and bright orange over-the-knee socks )

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 16:53

Yo, Ladies!!!!!

For those of you who are watching The Wire, what do you think of the characther of Carcetti (3rd series), I had a serious crush on him, though repulsive! And I also fancied terribly Nerese, a bit of Sapphic love needed in these days of winter blues.

Yes, Camo, been told by Ugg wearers to stay away from fakes as they are not the same unfortunatetly, the whole point of Uggs is how comfy and soft they are..

Not snowed in, but quite a bit of snow here in the eastend, great, for a few days don't get to see the turds on the way to school. Now, I am sure you don't get that in Geneva, MM.

Ki

Dying to get to Jigsaw to check out velvet dress mentioned in Penthe's thread, thread that made me want to shop like mad.

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 17:23

Lol lol lol at Bum's reaction to penthe's thread ... !
I haven't started season 3 yet, I'll let you know (though a dear friend of mine told me the 3rd is his favourite)

Camo, I love calze felpate too!

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 06/01/2010 18:07

suburbialand has become lapland today. Really really snowed under. Fantastic sledging down the hill with DDs all MoonBooted, altro che quei cazzoni di UGG boots !

Agree re UGG fakes, not worth it. In that case buy original sheepskin something else. I still hate them but must admit there;s nothing nothing confier and warmer (except moonboot of course which are even prettier imho). All day today in the park with children and feet were as toasted as if I'd sat in front of the fire.

Good luck MI. good point about them being scared of you.

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 18:10

at the snow.
Ds has been expecting snow since we got back from marche (it was snowing nr forli' as we drove back) but today it was a mild, 12 degrees sunny day. He was displeased!

minervaitalica · 06/01/2010 18:25

Good to see this thread has kicked off again! Franca, I may join in your never to be resolution of the -3Kgs ...

Thanks all for the support - and no MM, I am not generally a killer heels type... I spent the last year in jeans and jumpers, so today I have taken the City suits out. They do look scary on the hanger - but they do not work very well when you are a tappo like me!!!! Ah if I had extra 10 cm... I still would not reach 1.70m [sceptical].

I love the sales too, btw - although I am not sure I understand the "if only people would pay more" - well, I do tend to avoid megacheap clothes I admit, but spending more is hardly a guarantee of workers being paid a fair wage it seems...

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 18:32

LOl at tappo in suit! Now I think you look like a prison officer MI...

They also say that on the Food programme on radio 4 "if only people were prepared to pay a bit more for organic...". Well, yes, if you can great, if you can't, then no. And also why should it be more expensive if organic or ethical?

I had my Lidl boots on for snowfight after dinner with ds, and feet toasted too, but I guess German is good, so the quality good. Doesnt have to be expensive, except for Uggs, sorry! What is moonboots? {REally feel like hitting the sales, once the snow has stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 18:35

!!!!! Yuppie!!! Minerva... perhaps your company in the -3 resolution might actually push me into action... I haven't even dared to pop on the scale to check my weight . I do have a "Low Carb. La dieta a basso tenore di carboidrati" book. It looks complicated, given that pasta is a staple in this family!

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 18:40

moon boots. Where were you in the 80s Bum??? They were all the rage in the early 80s, together with "cappottone", anyone remember it? (or am I too old?)

I think organic/ethical food has to be more expensive because it doesn't come from intensive agriculture, which is what brings prices down.
I have to say that I don't think that food is that expensive. Nowadays people seem happy to have 2 or 3 mobiles at a time and complain about the price of veggies! (here in italy)

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 06/01/2010 19:30

I forgot to add that Moon Boots are prettier in a Ski Resort type of place, not for daily strolls in central London .

Again I do think that veggies are very expensive, and I am not talking of the one fori stagione, organic or not organic. And no, like books, theoretically they shouldn;t be. Although I secong your argument Franca that if one is ready to spend lots of money on cars, mobiles, Wii, Ugg etc one should be able to afford veggies and organic as that.

must go dd2 in tears...

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 06/01/2010 19:36

sorry for messy post, rushed with dd2 screaming.

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 19:41

mmmmm perhaps, actually moon boots could look quite cool in central london !

again, we'll have to agree to disagree re the price of books and veggies

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 19:51

I suppose it is all relative, no? It depends on budget..It is ridiculous that something as necessary as books and veggies should be cheaper...

I do think veggies are expensive in the Uk and it is just a rip off, I mean I remember being shocked last year that 1 leek was 1 pound? grrr Almost 2 quid for a lettuce in a bag? I grow my own , for a couple of quids (seeds and compost) I had a whole seaason of organic lettuce.

Oh, yes, I remember moonboots, dd has a pair! actually my lidl boots look a bit like that.

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 20:07

Should have been "should be expensive" dp talking whilst i am typing (how dare he?)

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 20:33

1 leek for a pound sounds really steep .

Where did you see that?

I'm afraid books aren't classified as essentials, they are by us, but not by many people. But again, many, many books have a huge intellectual work behind them, why shouldn't they cost more than 2 quids?

Mcnultysexgod · 06/01/2010 20:42

In my local Tesco, was organic, but still...

Books for 20 quid cannot be bought by far too many people (example me ) If all books were 20 quid the majority of people would not be able to own them, so not fair ata all. Of course there are libraries too which are free, but it should be a right for people to own them...if they become a luxury we are screwed..

I don't know anybody who owns 3 mobiles, total idiots (well, of course unless the job requires it), but then i suppose the job will pay for it. I don't like this need for all these gadgets tbh.

Dp keeps talking over my typing!

Francagoestohollywood · 06/01/2010 20:56

In your local tesco? Wow, that is a lot!

But books usually cost 7.99 pounds, sometimes even 5.99 in normal shops. Surely that isn't expensive?

TheMysticMasseuse · 06/01/2010 22:04

Who was Nerese??? can't remember her. And Carcetti reminds me of a rather heinous boyfriend who kind of emotionally scarred me [drama queen] so he creeps me out!

sorry, too tired to talk anything else than the wire...
