The door is battered a bit, when he went out to investigate he saw the paint on the neighbour's car (all very detective-film) so had it confirmed she was the perp. He only has a panda at the moment while we wait (and wait) for the insurance money for the accident he had last year (I make him sound like a walking disaster with cars!) but he is sooooo mad. We don't like the neighbours anyway, he thumps her and throws her clothes out every so often and we all look through our spyholes. They leave their rubbish on the landing as well which is vile.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2010 11:03

argh, they sound mostly unpleasant! (I love Pandas, great cars )

Mcnultysexgod · 25/01/2010 13:33

Me too, I love Pandas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ciao bellissime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rosa · 25/01/2010 13:38

thanks for that site it looks great .
Dh now gonre down with dd1 cold and he got a bollocking shouting from me as he took his temp ( elevated) I then went out with the dds for 1 hr ( mega cold again) and came back and he haddn't taken anything so was still feeling pathetic. Needless to say he has now taken something and is feeling better. There goes my shopping trip to the mainland on Thurs and he will need that day to recouperate what he has lost !
NOt sure if this joke will work but sai perche mi piace la panda?
E bello pandare qui e pandare la...
I had a fantastic fiat uno it was a 1980s one and it was superb in the mountains I loved that car pity it rusted out after about 6 years ( it was 2nd hand then !)
Hi Mcnulty how stepfordy fit are you?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2010 13:41

Oi Mcnulty! We miss you, come back, don't all celebs escape from detox clinics ?

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2010 13:43

Oh yes, Fiat Uno were great too. I also loved Puntos. Basically I drove mum's fiat uno (I learnt to drive with that) and Punto. Then I moved out, didn't need/couldnt afford a car and stopped driving. I haven't driven in yrs !

Bonsoir · 25/01/2010 21:36

I was in FNAC yesterday and noticed that La meglio gioventù was on sale again. I know you Little Italians had a discussion about it a while back, and its unavailability...

Francagoestohollywood · 25/01/2010 21:43

Oh hello Bonsoir. Yes, in fact I bought it before Christmas . I started watching it yesterday night and I'm a bit disappointed. I hope it gets better (waiting for Scamarcio to appear )

Mcnultysexgod · 25/01/2010 22:38

No, I was disappointed too, very cliched...

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/01/2010 10:08

what, I LOVED La Meglio Gioventu .

(can't remember Scamarcio in it???)

What i found very cliched was Mio Fratello e' figlio unico, maybe because of Scami, sorry Franca!

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 11:10

Yes, he does a tiny bit in it, he was very young.

I've only watched the first hr and a half of la meglio gioventu', I think that lo cascio and bono are excellent and I really liked the bit where they take Giorgia out of the clinic. I found the whole bit about the flood in Florence and '68 in Torino very cliched... I also like how the carati's parents are portrayed.
I think lots of italian movies (included mio fratello e' figlio unico) are mostly unable to depict our recent past with the right tones. They are always a bit "stonati", always too heavy, too scolastici or too light if you see what I mean.
(I don't think it's scamy's fault if mio fratello e' figlio unico is cliched. And I don't think it is a total failure as a film)

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/01/2010 11:20

my key problem with those movies is that they always rehash the recent past (mpstly in the wrong tone, completely agree with you there), rather than focusing on the present where there would be soooooo much need of some hardhitting social critique... the problem with a lot of those movies is that they seem to idealise the 70s without ever showing where the radical ideology led us (to today's ideological desert...)

Plus for some reason i cannot stand lo cascio, he is a good actor but he has such an eager face...

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 11:30

Yes, I agree that almost no one engages with the present. Do you think that radical ideology is responsible of today's desert? Very interesting, I've never really considered it so responsible.
Boh, what a mess. Speaking of mess (the wire)... I watched episode 9 of season 3. Genious. But what a mess

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 11:43

Oi Bucharest, we are on the same thread...

Sputnik · 26/01/2010 11:48

I've always had the idea that, in political terms, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Hence Obama following Bush (not that he's managed to do anything) Which is both good and bad news really isn't it? Maybe we are in for some great times post-Berlusca (not holding my breath).

Speaking of genius, I'm rewatching The Wire 1 atm, getting lots of bits I missed the first time round and getting even more into the various characters. It's just as good, though obviously I know what plot twists are coming up.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 11:55

Is there ever gonna be a post Berluska? . Lets hope that if we ever have a post Berluska it won't be just the lega nord

Oh Sputnik, you are going to love season 2, it builds up slowly, but it's soooo dramatic and intense! I hope it gets there asap.

Mcnultysexgod · 26/01/2010 12:02

You need the distance to deal with current times? I thought Sorrentino's movie about Andreotti very fab, subtle, shows that thiungs are never black and white, how not total control even the people in charge had. Also discussing the past can be a way of talking about the present? Mio fratello e' filgio unico also was a bit cliched, loved the mother in it, the actress really depicted well the despair. Reminded me of my mum. I hate the black and white of many mainstream Italian movies, but Sorrentino is a genius...

I do think that the radical ideology might be responsible for today's mess, now that you mention it. Oh, I need to read more about the subject..

On a totally shallow note is it true about Brad and Ange, did they split?

Mcnultysexgod · 26/01/2010 12:04

if anybody can contribute to this thread about cancer and chemicals it would be great:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/other_subjects/900759-are-acrylates-carcinogenic-like-parabens

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 12:06

Oh I loved il Divo, I totally agree with you.
The thing about the distance, I still think you can make great films about the present. Think about Moretti's Eccebombo and la Messa e' finita, for instance (la messa e' finita is my fav, so poetic and yet so "lucido").

... we need to ask Brangelina... To be honest, I think the majority of celebs lead separate lives even when they are in a relationship. It does look like they are having problems. I was in team Aniston, btw

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2010 12:08

Oh gosh McNulty, I'm sorry I don't have a clue.

Rosa · 26/01/2010 12:52

Its snowing ......and heavy as well .Was going to go and get the carnival costumes so thats been shelved.DD has 2 carnival parties inside so her heavy furry bee costume will not be appropriate and I cannot face getting out teh sewing machine to make something ..plus I would still have to go to the mainland to get the fabric!
I am going to hunt out the wire so I can join in all these conversations.
No idea on Acrylates I am still on the no hydrogenised fats to be honest. WIll go and read my creams for parabens......( is that what they are called in Italian ?)
