Uhhhh madesimo is windy. When are you going? We are off the week of the 15, and are probably going to piedmont. Email me.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2010 21:45

Camo, ... my dad is the one with trevisane connection, mum is from piedmont.

Slightly, usually rent contracts are longer than 6 months here (usually 4 yrs), but I'm sure you'll find something suitable.
You need to narrow down the area you think would suit you best. I really think Emilia Romagna is a great place to live... Bologna is the busiest city in the area and rental prices are kept high by a large number of students (bologna has a lively university with lots of students from all over the country).
I recommend Reggio Emilia, that's where I'd like to live.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 21:46

I've no idea when we're going, it's all up in the air at the mo'. I wanted to avoid the week of the 15 because of carnevale and everybody will be going.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 21:48

A more commeswtible than most Indian takeaway is the one in corso di Porta Romana, nella piazzetta di una chiesa, dopo Francesco sforza andando verso il centro. Quite cheap too.

Will email you.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 21:51

Hi Pippi! I think you being a good umbra you should have called here that too. Or is it a name only confined to Tuscany? Mind you, with that recent pubblicità for TIM everyon'es been calling here by the "etta" version, which I don't like so much .

Francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2010 21:52

Oh yes, the one in san nazaro in brolo. Have to check if it's still open.
We went last yr in the week of carnevale ambrosiano, but it wasn't too bad. We were in piedmont though, val d'aosta would have been busier. (avoid courmayeur )

Francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2010 21:53

I don't like the etta version too, it's not as feisty. And the ad was ridicolous.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 21:56

Blimey, my keyboard's got really stiff iin my absence, my typing is all over the place.

will go and read through the name thread over a nice tisana.

BTW Pippi, I think your DD2's name is lovely, why would you want to call her something else? Mind you, naming a newborn is hard, especially as you don't know how they'll turn out. A bit like a guy I used to work with who was called Felice. Grumpiest git ever. I've never understood how anybody could decide on a name before giving birth and seeing che faccia ha, but so many people do decide at 12 wks that this will be Giulia/Luca and keep the name. Boh.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 20/01/2010 21:57

No not popular here at all even though there was an -etta in pg and was famous for unusual name. No don't like it much either, it doesnt even feel the same name tbh.

I even asked dd1 a few months ago if we should change it and she said YES . Now it is too late as dd2 calls herself constantly with the first part of her name (if she used the last bit we stood a chance).

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 21:58

It is still open, DP went there just before Xmas and bought the place out.

Must make my tisana.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 20/01/2010 21:59

I love her name to bits but it's just that I'd have considered that one too if I'd though about it, I think. And if you knew her you'd think there wasn't a more perfect name. Actually she has calmed down a lot, bless.

For dd1 I had to wait what she looked like. With dd2 it was pretty much that or nothing.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2010 22:00

We had a shortlist of 3 names and took the final decision when we saw their face. Ds could have been a Mario (yes, indeed !!!), Dd could have been a Lucia. I think we made the right choice at the end. Dd in fact loves her name.

Off to bed, ciao!

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 22:00

But the first part of her name can be transformed into something else too, although less malleable agreed than the last part.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 20/01/2010 22:00

How dd Brange? And DP? We are still laughing about "questo e per il pisello di papa'"

Francagoestohollywood · 20/01/2010 22:03

I actually love your dd2 name pippi and brange's dd name. They are lovely.
Of course my fav name is Idea Socialista (who was the daughter of Alberto Beneduce and married Enrico Cuccia !)

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 22:03

DD is still fixated by piselli, but luckily solo quello di papà, she doesn't mention anyone else's out in public. In the UK we'd probably have had SS and the paed patrol round by now.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 20/01/2010 22:03

Must go to bed. Great to see you Brange.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 22:04

Idea Socialista? Hmmm, it's a bit too Moon Unit for me.

Brangelina · 20/01/2010 22:05

Me too, too many late nights and I've now got spots. 'Notte!

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 20/01/2010 22:05

Franca I thought you were joking !!

Yes SS are a scary thing here. DD1 always embarasses Dh in swimming pool changing rooms... and dd2 will def bring us to their attention with her bocca larga.

Francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2010 09:42

I'm trapped home with a most violent cold, feeling sorry for myself, as I had many things to do this morning. But I woke up with a massive headache and couldn't leave the bed until 30 mins ago . I hate colds!

A variety of great "ideological" names can be found in Antonio Tabucchi's novel Piazza d'Italia (which is imho the best Tabucchi's novel): Garibaldo, Esperia, Anita and the twins Quarto and Volturno

Rosa · 21/01/2010 09:48

Brange lovely to see you back - Glad all well .
Only places I know of for a settimana bianca that I have been to are Cervinia did 5 seasons there village is not pretty but skiing is good. Cormayeur nicer village skiing ok. San Martino - full of Venetians !!Been day tripping in Arabba, Something con la F and I also did Madesimo!!!!
I would ahve thought lots of work all over for a plumber have been asking dh to re train as an electrician as they seem to earm loads ! I can only help on Le Marche, Tuscany and teh Veneto for places to live but alwasy thought Friuli or Emilia R sounds nice to live in.
Hope colds etc are a better
Dilema been asked to 2 festa on same day . I have told the mum whos festa in casa it is that X also has festa on the same day its in a hired hall ( They know each other as we always meet at parties but I am a bit worried at why either hasn't mentioned it so am hoping I haven't dropped a clanger )If both are on I really don't know which to go to - Neither are at Dd school . DH says the Bank managers daughter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bucharest · 21/01/2010 09:51

Morning, (dp's brother's kids are called Giulia and Luca lol)

Speaking of curry etc, I bought some fresh ginger this morning, and had the whole supermarket queue oooohing and aaaahing at my basket like I was carrying a newborn.

"Signora, ma che cos'e?
"zenzero fresca"
"si cucina con la pasta?"
"sembra una patata, sara' come una patata?"

etc etc.

They've all scuttled off now to grate it over their pasta or make chips out of it. and

Francagoestohollywood · 21/01/2010 09:56

Bucharest!

Rosa, I've just taken a zerinol... I hate steaming, though I know is the best remedy. I'll do it later, if I feel more energetic.

I think I'd go to the party of the person who's invited me first? Boh!!! It's difficult... maybe the bank manager's dd is the best choice
