Thanks for the link to the names thread: very topical here! DH has stipulated that we may not discuss names with others until we have met the baby and found out whether it is a boy or a girl. The two of us have obviously been discussing the matter for a few months and have settled on having an Italian first name, an English second name and what we fancy as a third (surname will be English). Pretty much everyone in my family has Maria somewhere in their name (men and women) but DH has vetoed it, particularly for boys- which is a shame as I have thought for years that I would like my DD to be called Maria Amelia or Maria Ludovica (which, as MM says on the other thread, would probably turn into Amelia or Ludovica). And Ludovico for a boy would be my absolute favourite, but that's been vetoed too (hence having leave to disclose it).
So now we are fairly settled on names 1 and 2 for boys and girls (though for the latter two contenders are fairly close) and the question is for the third. I have toyed with the idea of starting a name thread but, having seen some others, have given up. However, in the more secluded environment of LI, if you have any suggestions for names that work in both languages, please go ahead.
Like many here, DH is fascinated by Idea Socialista (and does understand the cultural background) but we will not be going for that, though he has suggested it a number of times when we have failed to agree. Oddly the English names were much easier to come up with (we both like fairly traditional ones), it is the the Italian ones that I like that he keeps vetoing...
The Indian in San Nazario in Brolo would have been the one I would have suggested- except I have no idea what it is like these days. I used to live not far from there as student who was pathologically unable to cook, so often went there on a Sunday when the uni cafeteria was shut... They did a lovely chicken with almond and yoghurt...
Camo: we too have the curtain problem. We have been in this house nearly three years and only managed to decide on curtains in November. Fitter for the curtain pole is finally turning up tomorrow- but what a saga. I cannot get to grips with curtain language and find the subject deeply boring, wish we could just have stained glass or persiane and not bother, but sadly house is too young and there isn't enough sun. Just to say that I sympathise thoroughly with your plight. We have also found a very nice lady to make our curtains, so shout if you would like a name.
