i didn't think it was racist and xenophobic, perhaps just a bit puerile. I have added my 2ps worth now so it's even more puerile

will catch up properly later

Camomilla · 19/01/2010 12:01

hi everyone,

SG not been around... do we have babySG?

just a quick one, sent mum to take dd for a walk, DP off to get parts for the new radiator (which turned into a nightmare yesterday, followed by the electric heater in the bathroom blowing up, and the (full) dishawasher stop working )

buch, as usual agree with your posts on that thread - though some posters initially sounded a bit ignorant I thought. I feel your friends pain (no pun intended!), and if I understood right your DD's name, I've always loved it! friends beat us to it unfortunately. but am very intrigued now by her middle name

right, better be off and pretend to be doing something (as expected, mum has been complaining about this that and the other....)

ciao!

ps - MI, glad you like your new job, Rosa, bum about the flat, and I have lot count of how many waffle/donut makers DP got...

Bucharest · 19/01/2010 12:54

Caterina.

MM- I didn't know that about Pippa lol.

Have you seen the list on the last page of the Times thread? The Bonny Babes list. They really give a whole new sense to "preposterous".

Addolorata (aka Loredana) doesn't feel nearly as pained as another friend of ours, Madonna dello Sterpeto. (or Sterpeta, can never remember which )

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:11

Hello everyone, have just come home after a morning of errands and I'll save you a massive rant about bloody passports grrrrrrrrr.

Anyway, has the preposterous names evolved? No, I didn't find it offensive, maybe a bit ignorant, but to be honest, it is impossible to know each country's traditions in names, no?
For instance, and please don't hate me, I've never really understood why giving 3 names to a person like seems to be the norm in the uk. But that's because I'm lazy and it was already difficult coming up with one

Will go and check.

Rosa · 19/01/2010 13:11

Well the house smelled of coffee this morning which was nice but that was it. It takes those little metal pot things that george goes on about in lots of colours I want to know if the milk thing will do thick hot chocolate but I might blow it up if it is a bit dense....As for taking it back not a hope.....We don't have any doghnut makers here but I am not holding my breath.
Cold here .
read the names thread some people are OTT it was a harmless thread and interesting until people got on the cavallo alto.
BTW I love the cows name. DD2 at one point was going to be Carolina until dd1 got a fluffy cow and called it Carolina.
Agent just called about a another flat smaller but good price but somebody else is already sniffing so I doubt we will even get a smell at it....... Mind you Dh is going to Che Banca domani to see what the hidden small print is all about !

Franca- the 3 name thing seems to be if you're uber uber posh, or uber uber not.

Good luck with the house and banca Rosa!

Sputnik · 19/01/2010 13:17

I must have mentioned our friend Bambino? I can kind of relate to his parents' "oh another one, well, whatever" attitude.

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:23

Buch, but on MN it seems that everyone uses 3 names!
Maybe it's a mn thing.

I love both Caterina and Carolina. I also love Clementina!

Rosa · 19/01/2010 13:31

Talking of Clementines.....
I did an orange and clementine cake - yummy
DId a similar thing that SG mentioned ( Thank you ) peeled and then put in oven with some juice and dash of Cointreau but only had a miniture so used brandy bit of brown sugar on top , they went all soggy and yummy and used icecream !
I have about 2 kilo left but the oranges are really fresh and MR loves them so we are eating 2 a day between us. DD1 hates the pith on them so will only drink spremuta.
DH has a long surname so 2 names ( and short at that was all we could do for the dds or when they fill in all the endless forms they will have to do for everything we wouldn't have enough boxes!)MR has my surname as her second name ( remember the saga with the comune?) that name is now one of the most popular in the UK !!!!
What happened with the passports ?

OP posts:
Sputnik · 19/01/2010 13:32

Do you just mean the middle name Franca? Or 2 middle names?

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:36

I've been putting off renewing my passport for 2 months, and I discovered that from the end of november it is not possible to have the children on the parents' passport anymore. So they will have to have their own passports. They will also need the carta d'identita' (which will need the ok of the questura too). So I can already picture wasting hrs in various offices. Plus it costs around 100 euros for each passport. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr che palle!

Mmmm the cake sounds delicious. At the beginning of the clementines season my dc used to eat at least 6 clementines each a day. Now their enthusiasm has worn off, which is good for my portafoglio

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:37

This morning I discovered.

Sput yes, here on mn it's usually 3 names like Tiffany Amber Rose... (mmm I'm good at this )

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:39

I'm always impressed by the energy of finding 3 different names... (lazy)

Sputnik · 19/01/2010 13:42

2 is more than enough, IMO!
Actually DD has no middle name. DS has late FIL's name as middle name, otherwise we probably wouldn't have bothered. Probably because we ae too lazy: thinking up 1 name is bad enough.

Sputnik · 19/01/2010 13:44

lol at our shared attitude to baby naming!

Rosa · 19/01/2010 13:47

From what age so they have to have the carta d'identita ?
DDs have the yellow identity cards which are valid for travel in Europe and they were quite painless. YOu got them from the commune then they had to be timbrato in the questura if I am correct. They are only valid for 5 years so not sure what happens after that.
I do break out in a sweat thinking about the questura but for now we have a small one in Venice city that does it if it all moves to Mestre it will be hell as there is always a huge queue to get to the queue breakdown bit !

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 13:50

Sput! In our case ds has only one name, dd has 2 because she has our maternal grandmothers' names.

Rosa, you'll have to renew the carta d'identita' after 5 yrs I believe.
The pain for us is to find the right time to go to the comune me, dh and the children at the same time. Not that simple !

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 19/01/2010 14:48

Afternoon, intrigued now, please link to name thread.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 19/01/2010 15:05

seen it... too much ado about nothing as usual on MN.

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 15:12

lol

Bucharest · 19/01/2010 15:23

The bonkers (although am apparently no longer allowed to use words like bonkers or loony anymore on MN either sigh) thing is that the plaintiffs on that thread are missing the rather obvious point that almost all the non-offended posters are foreigners, as I said, the offended-on-behalf-of-someone-else stuff is just, well, loony.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 19/01/2010 16:35

Really Buch. Oh my... was just saying to a friend that Dh and I have this habit of calling eachother "idiot" when in a playful mood - never when angry (we have got other words for then not ). DD1 hasn't picked up on that, maybe because she does not think it is a bad word like 'stupidgirl' which is the one in voga at her school it seems, but I wonder how long it will take... good MN parenting!!

TheMysticMasseuse · 19/01/2010 17:11

Thanks to that thread now all i can think of is Elio's song... Addoloraaaato (oooo)!!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 19/01/2010 18:39

Snap Masseuse, I've been thinking of Addolorato since yesterday ... e Addolorato, e' addolorato di nome e di fa tto...

Pippi... me and dh since having started watching the wire have been calling each other motherf*r

I'm actually a rather pc person, but do use lots of not pc words (thanks to elio )

Rosa · 19/01/2010 19:19

well I think we are all matto da legare.....( Rosa runs and hides ....)
