Michael Howard makes my BLOOD BOIL

Enid · 15/04/2005 17:11

It makes my blood boil to hear Michael Howard talking about Labour 'diluting British values' - eg giving some asylum seekers special treatment.

How dare he presume that British values aren't ones of tolerance, understanding and caring.

I hate the Tory party and I especially hate Michael Howard.

Thanks, I feel better now.

[sink]? that's 1½ glasses of red for you!

Tinker · 15/04/2005 19:07

He is such a vile hate monger, appealing to some people's basest instincts. Great letter in Independent about his "It's not racist to talk about immigration controls" Gist was, well of course it's not racist, why would anyone think it was. But Tory defensiveness about it is because they object to immigrants of certain colour etc ie Tory policy is racist

tallulah · 15/04/2005 19:08

I find the mumsnet anthem of "all immigrants are wonderful and contribute to the economy" just as bizarre as the anti-immigration slogans they are fighting. Surely there is some middle ground?

Did none of you see Crimewatch this week? Of 12 convicted rapists who have skipped bail, 2 were English, 1 white Irish & the other 9 were all recent immigrants from E Europe/Iran/Africa. The proportion of immigrants from those countries must be fairly low to the general population, why such a high proportion of offenders?

Not quite sure of your point tallulah. So Crimewatch discussed all convicted rapists who had ever jumped bail? From their in-depth analysis 9/12 were immigrants? Is like the ricin guy who killed the policeman who teh Tories have jumped on as an example of how all failed asylum seekers are out to kill us with really effective ricin?

Enid · 15/04/2005 19:16

Sorry but the whole ricin thing made me laugh

dh: " you know, ricin, the stuff spies put on the end of their umbrellas to kill people"

When I said "most" I was thinking that you would have, JT

She was gorgeous.

motherinferior · 15/04/2005 19:20

She's interviewed in Easy Living saying that all Mikey does when he's not hard at work is watch telly. Well, he would, really, wouldn't he, safely behind closed curtains.

The ricin thing was almost hilarious if it hadn't been taken so seriously.

Basically he had some recipes from the internet, which wouldn't have worked anyway. Hmm well if Al Qaeda's greatest minds are all so brilliant, we don't need to worry too much...

motherinferior · 15/04/2005 19:24

Oh don't, the idea of him in charge is enough to get me actually doing stuff for the Labour bloody party. Works every time, I end up so horrified by the idea of the Tories in charge that I'm reluctantly shanghied into leafletting...

tallulah · 16/04/2005 11:03

so you all think its ok that men who believe that women are easy pickings are allowed to move here and do as they like? Their "culture" says its ok. Ours says it isn't. Argue all you like but that is fact. (& it's nothing to do with colour either)

snafu · 16/04/2005 11:08

Oh fgs. I started to write a reasoned reply to that, tallulah, and thought 'Why bother?' Laughable.

MaryP0p1 · 16/04/2005 11:10

What Tallulah do you generalise like this often??

Another explaination for the high number of lose skipping ball being immigrants is because its easier for them than those who haven't already left a country once. They are likely to have less things that will keep them in the one country. Also this is only the 12 that skipped bail, what are the numbers for those that commit rape. I think that might back you arguement more than those that skip bail.

Enid · 16/04/2005 11:11

no go on, I'd be interested to hear what culture 'believes that women are easy pickings'?

If it is crime against women that worries you tallulah, don't you think you'd be better off getting angry with the police force, or the lack of funding for it? We have laws in this country that EVERYONE must abide by, if they don't, then we have recourse to the police.

By the way Michael Howard makes my skin absolutely crawl and frightens me how much hatred he is stirring up that wasn't there before. I live in Essex a strong Conservative area, my local counsellor said you could put a untrained monkey up as the Conservative counsellor and it would get voted in. In the last 6 months the change I have noticed in friends and family regarding their tolenence o those that are noticeably different is amazing and Mr Howard, Mr Killroy and their cronnies have a lot to answer for.

MaryP0p1 · 16/04/2005 11:15

Excuse the spelling and grammar, trying to do 3 things at once.

tallulah · 16/04/2005 11:54

I'm not generalising any more than you are, but none of you are ever interested in an opinion that doesn't toe the guardianista mumsnet party line. The E european countries have this culture, as do some of the African countries. If you choose to believe otherwise then that is your right, as it is mine to hold my own opinions. You may disagree with me but that does not make me wrong & you right.

As for lack of funding to the police force, the part of our council tax we pay to the police has gone up by 300% since 97, yet there are no police available here except for motoring offences.

I don't like MH anymore than the rest of you do, but the alternatives are no better. At least MH might do something for East Kent to reverse the damage done by John Prescott & his wonderful building programme.

Enid · 16/04/2005 11:56

What Eastern European or African country has as its culture the idea that women are 'easy pickings'?

OP posts:
Enid · 16/04/2005 11:56

and you said it was fact, not just your own opinions

OP posts:
snafu · 16/04/2005 11:59

Please tallulah, enlighten me. I'd be fascinated to hear the 'facts' about which countries have a 'culture' that condones rape.

bonniej · 16/04/2005 12:03

haven't read all this thread but so pleased to read so many other people can't stand MH. I have to turn the telly over when he's on as he makes me want to vomit. I don't usually vote but shall be voting for Labour this year as the alternative scares the life out of me!!

MaryP0p1 · 16/04/2005 12:18

Tallulah, at no point have I generalised about anything on this thread. I pointed out they may be other reasons for your satistic and asked you to back up your argument. Further, I'm not generalising about Michael Howard, he really does make my skin crawl and he really has stirred up alot of racial hatred around here that wasn't so obvious before, and I do find it shocking.

Oh, and by the way another generalisation on your part. I don't read the Guardian.
