Invitation to mumsnet book launch

Hi there

For anyone out there who doesn't yet know, the first mumsnet book, "Mums On Babies", is due to be released on March 30th. Thanks to all of you for all your contributions - we certainly couldn't have done it without you and we really hope you like the book .

The publishers, cassell-illustrated, are having a party to launch the book and hopefully drum up some press interest and we wondered if some of you who allowed your contributions to be used might like to come along. The party is being held at The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, London on Tuesday April 8th from 7-9pm and we have 75 invites to give away to the first 75 contributors who email [email protected] and say they want to come. It should be a good evening, with drinks and canapes and the odd hand or neck massage thrown in. There will be a group press photo taken during the evening ("the book we wrote" etc.) and your acceptance of the invitation means that you consent to appear in the photo.

Apologies if some of you have had this invite by email already. We had lots of "bad" email addresses when we tried to send an invite out to all the book contributors, so we thought it was fairer if we let folks know via Talk.

Hope to see lots of you there.

Congrats on being authors and thanks again,

Carrie, Justine & Rachel

It was great to put faces to some familiar names. Tech's name for example conjures up a spotty youf in an anorak - couldn't be more wrong! Thanks Carrie, Justine & Rachel for inviting us along.

mum2toby · 09/04/2003 10:28

I live in Scotland, is there nothing north of the border that I can attend????? I feel like I'm missing out on the action!

JoAnne427 · 09/04/2003 11:12

So, well, tell us about TECH!

SoupDragon · 09/04/2003 12:11

Oooh - I don't think we should... It's surely more fun that he remains a man of mysery

SoupDragon · 09/04/2003 12:11

(besides, he might be reading!)

Mo2 · 09/04/2003 12:21

Willum - hope you're OK - sorry you couldn't make it.... funny thing was, that at the end of the evening we went round trying to find you, saying to people "are you Willum?"...

I had a great time - brain feels a bit fuzzy this morning (free champers!) but neck & shoulders feel more relaxed!

Anyway, which other Mumsnetters were there? I can't believe we met them all, and let's face it, it wasn't immediately obvious - couldn't tell who was Mumsnet, Press & friends of J,R & C ?? (Except, of course, for the FAMOUS person... we knew who she was...(or not, as the case may be!)
I remember meeting Slug, Tigermoth, Sobernow, Batters and some others whose names I have forgotton.... come on, who else was lurking??

Mo2 · 09/04/2003 12:22

Oooh, yes, how could I forget! Of course I also met Tech....mmm, yes, Tech was there......

WideWebWitch · 09/04/2003 12:36

layla · 09/04/2003 15:20

Come on spill the beans someone pleese?

NQWWW · 09/04/2003 16:14

LOL Sobernow

I have to say I had never heard of the famous person and didn't recognise her.

Maybe we could get some photos of Tech on the homepage?

Carriel · 09/04/2003 16:18

Have put a call in to publishers re lack of availability of books.... though don't forget you can always buy them here at a discount! But seriously thanks for letting us know, we need to be in all the book shops, so if we're not in one in your area ask them why not! It's not much use if the gen public can't get at your words of wisdom.
Glad you enjoyed the party, we all did. And yes, isn't tech just dreamy.....

There was a famous person???? Obviously I was too busy inspecting the bottom of my wine glass. That and I forgot to put my contacts in again.

SoupDragon · 09/04/2003 18:00

The Sugababes, Batters? Don't be silly, that was me, SB34 and Mo2 and several other mumsnetters...

whoops, founding mumsnetter double posts - shouldn't have hit refresh - should know better... typical... Anyway the news back from cassells is:
"I've had our sales director take a look and here's his response ...

Both Birmingham shops took stock and there's an order for one of the Nottingham stores. I'll ask the reps to check the stock situation.

So you should find book there soon and if they have sold out then they should order more which would be very good news."

Here's hoping it's a sell out! Thanks all for keeping an eye out for us
