Invitation to mumsnet book launch

Hi there

For anyone out there who doesn't yet know, the first mumsnet book, "Mums On Babies", is due to be released on March 30th. Thanks to all of you for all your contributions - we certainly couldn't have done it without you and we really hope you like the book .

The publishers, cassell-illustrated, are having a party to launch the book and hopefully drum up some press interest and we wondered if some of you who allowed your contributions to be used might like to come along. The party is being held at The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, London on Tuesday April 8th from 7-9pm and we have 75 invites to give away to the first 75 contributors who email [email protected] and say they want to come. It should be a good evening, with drinks and canapes and the odd hand or neck massage thrown in. There will be a group press photo taken during the evening ("the book we wrote" etc.) and your acceptance of the invitation means that you consent to appear in the photo.

Apologies if some of you have had this invite by email already. We had lots of "bad" email addresses when we tried to send an invite out to all the book contributors, so we thought it was fairer if we let folks know via Talk.

Hope to see lots of you there.

Congrats on being authors and thanks again,

Carrie, Justine & Rachel

Hey everyone,
We've still got plenty of space available for the launch party. So far we've not had a great many takers which is a shame as we wanted it to be a big thank you to all of you who have helped make mumsnet what it is. We're wondering whether perhaps it's the talk of a photo that's putting you off. Please don't let it, you can certainly opt out and if it's a real problem we'll drop the photo altogether. Our main concern is to celebrate what mumsnet's all about and we can't do that properly without you guys. (sorry if that sounds a bit schmultzy). What's more someone else is paying for it and they're promising us free massages and lots of vino (and you get to meet Tech!) So, if you fancy it(The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, London on Tuesday April 8th from 7-9pm ) - just drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll see you there.
Justine, Carrie, Steve and Rachel

Justine, I would love to come, BUT I have an exam that day in Cardiff , which doesn't finish until 5:30pm. So as you can imagine, there's just no way I would be able to make it. But I really am disappointed, I was so excited when I "saw" myself in the book. And by the way, no, the thought of the photo wouldn't put me off. And the promise of meeting tech is a real selling point, I would imagine!

Sorry, Justine I would have loved to have come (free drink, yes please) but it is my daughter's birthday that day (and I'm in Manchester!). And no, the photo wouldn't have put me off just don't know about the people who see it though

SueW · 05/04/2003 18:46

Justine I would happily come and be photographed (since most people I know who visit this site know who I am anyway!) but I will be busy in Switzerland, looking forward to a mumsnet meet-up in Bern.

I'm sorry - I would love to come but I live in Suffolk & it's just too far.

Wanted to let you know that I bought the book today & it's fabulous - SO EXCITING to see one's own quotes in print!!!

Thank you!

Gutted, I can't come anymore. DH has just wandered in and said 'is it Tuesday you are going out? as that's the evening I've got the job interview'. Ahhhhhhhhhh..... I'd just printed out the directions etc.!! Maybe when he speaks to the lady tomorrow she'll be busy and have to change the day!! - well I can hope.

Dh needs to collect some of his things from a friend in Hornsey, so I have to drive up and meet him there to give him the car and baby! I'm meeting him at about 6pm, so should be down to Covent Garden by 6.40pm. I will be coming home on the train though!

Your details have not come through so I'll ask tech to pass mine on to you.

I doubt I'll have time to get back on the computer, so I'll get my mobile number passed on.

JoAnne427 · 08/04/2003 11:44

Have fun everyone! I wish I could be there it sounds like a great night out, and wonderful reason to celebrate!

willum · 08/04/2003 17:11

It's all gone wrong!!!!! I crashed the car as I was leaving to come up to London, so I will not be coming after all. Whoops..........

Hope you all have a fantastic time.

SueW · 08/04/2003 18:55

Hope you all have a wonderful time.

I've looked in every bookshop in Nottingham (well it feels like it) and Waterstones in Central Birmingham in the past week and none of them have the book. Is it on nationwide release? Have copies been snapped up immediately in my area so I can't even get a look?

I had a great time too - nothing to do with the free champagne and neck/shoulder massage, honest!!

Hope you're OK, Willum!
