Happy New Year !
I hope this thread will re-start what was always great modelling chat on this forum..
Here's hoping 2009 brings lots of castings and jobs for everyone !

Me neither, I'm afraid, but the I'm very new to this modelling malarkey. Got the photos from babypearls' first shoot and they are sooooo sweet, I welled up with tears. How sad!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 27/01/2009 11:27

P&P I'm not suprised you felt tearful, I always get like this when I see DS's pictures! Not with DD's though probably because she's older and I'm more used to seeing her in good pics! A photographer used DS on her bussiness card, I stuck the picture on the fridge and want to kiss it everytime I walk by!

Anyone waiting for Junior on friday?

JAZZ4494 · 27/01/2009 13:38

Ah, your little cherubs sounds sooooo cute!

My dd has'nt been with the agency for long, so because this is only her second job, i'm still at the exicted stage!
When she did her first shoot (Bratz Mag) before xmas, i was blown away by the photos the photographer took of her.

I will be frantically looking on the shelves for her pics in the March issue, which i think comes out in the middle of Feb, to see if they have used her photos.
x

Jazz- great news that you are doing so well after such a short time. It's all quite baffling, isn't it?

Goodnightsleep- cheers. Will keep you posted.

JAZZ4494 · 28/01/2009 12:45

Thanks brook77. I hope she enjoys it as much as the other one. I'll keep you posted.

JAZZ4494 · 28/01/2009 12:52

Pureeandpearles, it is quite baffling this modelling business is'nt it?
My dd had been with agency from March last year, with only two castings, which everyone seemed to go on.

And when i put her in the model book in November the work seemed to definately pick up. It just goes to show that the professional photos in the model book must help them to get the jobs.

pureeandpearls · 29/01/2009 12:49

Thanks Jazz!

Anyone else doing casting/shoot for measles awareness campaign tomorrow?

suwoo · 29/01/2009 12:55

I've got some snaps of DD that I would like to send to an agency. I am based in Manchester, can someone suggest one please? Thanks.

lanismum · 29/01/2009 16:11

U/A north is the northern section of Urban Angels and if they are anything like south will be very good, dont think the books are open just yet though, I think they will reopen april/may time.

Housemum · 29/01/2009 17:50

Hi puree - we've got a call for Saturday for the measles casting/shoot.

pscc · 29/01/2009 18:06

I am an amature- sorry if this is a silly question, but what is the best way to get my kids into modelling. Looked into it a few years ago, but they wanted around £300-500 for a portfolio- is this reasonable?

pureeandpearls · 29/01/2009 19:21

pscc- that seems like a lot of money to me....and a portfolio?!! I just sent off pictures via websites of the reputable model agencies recommended on this thread (scroll back or ask again)

housemum-shame we won't get to meet!

HellFireandDamnation · 29/01/2009 22:05

good luck for the measles!! My lo has his MMR Thursday!

JAZZ4494 · 30/01/2009 17:17

Good luck with the measles castings on sat pureeandpearls and housemum.

My dd's shoot went well yesterday. After some delays on the tube we eventually arrived 20 minutes late.
It was for a Hannah Montanna weekly magazine which comes out for the first time in Feb. My dd should be in issues 15,16,and 17.

pureeandpearls · 02/02/2009 09:37

Thanks all- TBH it was all a bit odd. Agency told me we were likely to be there all day if chosen as they were casting and shooting, so stuck around with a bunch of other equally clueless mums. Finally asked what was going on and were told that all the pictures had been taken. WTF?? Anyway, came home via DH office and Konditor and Cook so felt better after that!

Onwards and upwards!

Housemum · 02/02/2009 16:45

Puree - wonder what was going on? We went on Saturday, they were obviously still looking for pictures then. they said they needed 10 from each day, but not sure if they meant 10 overall or 10 Fri/10 Sat. We were also told would be there all day if picked, but in the end they made her up as if she had measles, took a couple of photos, wiped off the make up and we went - only took about an hour including waiting time. We are supposed to find out today if she's going to be used, but suppose that depends if anyone made it to work today.

Had a good afternoon- went to Aquarium and London Eye (we have a Merlin season ticket as we're not too far from Legoland/Chessington so it's a "freebie" whenever we have spare time in London!)

Housemum · 02/02/2009 18:59

Actually, just realised we would have been in different age groups - presume your casting was all babies? Saturday was school-age (which would explain why ours at weekend as last time DD did an NHS shoot it was in the week & licensed so needed school letter etc)

pureeandpearls · 03/02/2009 19:31

Babies and toddlers Housemum...certainly never got to the make-up stage!!

scampadoodle · 05/02/2009 12:14

DS2 has got his first jobs coming up - M&S & White Company. Has anyone worked with either before, & if so, where are the shoots generally held? I'm really hoping White Co is central & not near their offices...

ps any advice re attending a shoot very welcome - what I should bring, if I need food etc etc

Housemum · 05/02/2009 14:09

M&S is usually Spring Studios, about a 10 min walk from Kentish Town - we've got a shoot there next week.

Last White Company one DD2 did was at somewhere called "The Roost" - can't remember exactly where it was, but parking was fine there - meter parking, not too bad a rate, plenty of spaces. Don't know if they always use that studio, but they did autumn and winter 2008 there.

Never assume there'll be any food at a shoot - sometimes you will be invited to share if they have a buffet lunch but not always! How old is DS2? Basically, take something to amuse him, and enough food/drink for the day. Shoots don't always run on time so there may be some hanging around. General "etiquette" - you are there to provide a child clean and on time, so don't have long conversations on your mobile and ignore your child destroying the place (I have seen that before!), keep your child away from the shoot area when they are not needed, and generally keep out of the way but be ready to come when called! If DS is little, does he have a toy that almost guarantees smiles? If so, take that if you can.

It is fun, some of the photographers/stylists are really nice and you get to see familiar faces after a while. I've only once had an "off" team (and that was for neither of those companies!). I used to get a bit stressed but now I just chill - they are children, so you can only do your best, if they don't get the right shot on the day, sometimes it can't be helped.

Good luck!

scampadoodle · 05/02/2009 16:15

Thanks Housemum! That's very helpful. DS2 is 4.8 so I'll take some books & pens & stuff - & food! The M&S shoot is only 2 hrs so not too bad.

The daft thing is, in my previous life as an art director I went to lots of shoots but never paid much attention to what the models did. I can't believe they don't always feed you - that's so rude! [Northern person emoticon]

scampadoodle · 05/02/2009 16:17

And I've just googled The Roost & it's a 10 minute cycle from my house! Hope it's there.

Onthebeach · 05/02/2009 21:13

Anyone know why the thread has gone on netmums?

Totallyfloaty35 · 05/02/2009 23:28
