Here's hoping 2009 brings lots of castings and jobs for everyone !

ES hugely expensive to join and there are other agents with gd reps to such as U/A,B&B,KL,AK,MOT and TS. WITH MUCH CHEAPER START UP COSTS

JAZZ4494 · 17/02/2009 16:02

Mummyegg, yes my dd did enjoy the shoots, especially the Hannah Montanna one!

Phoebelaura, take your time over modelling agencies, don't rush into anything.

Tiasmummy · 18/02/2009 09:28

Hi. My little girl is currently with Bubblegum and has had one job and one casting in about a year. We recently got accepted to Scallywags but just realised that they are sole agents. Do you think its worth cancelling with Bubblegum and going with Scallywags as they seem to be more reputable? Anybody have any views on Bubblegum or Scallywags? Really not sure what to do....Scallywags fees do seem a bit steep though....please help!

Cheers :-)

Totallyfloaty35 · 18/02/2009 19:21

is Bubblegum sole agency?

Tiasmummy · 18/02/2009 19:28

Not really sure....have looked at all the paperwork we have from them but it does not state it anywhere that I can see....

JAZZ4494 · 23/02/2009 15:44

Hi all, hope there's lots of castings for us all this week.
Ring phone, ring!!!

pureeandpearls · 24/02/2009 07:22

KNow what you mean Jazz- it's suddenly gone very quiet!

Just heard we didn't get the Measles thing....not too gutted though as you don;t want to show off your baby's picture when they're covered in spots!!!

Housemum · 28/02/2009 22:23

Hi puree - did the agency call you then to say you hadn't got the measles job? We heard nothing so assume DD2 didn't get it - although it was the day before snow caused the country to stand still so maybe the message didn't get through. DD2 had the full make-up done for the casting as well! Did yours?

DD3 has been busy - she had an M&S shoot 2 weeks ago, and another on the 11th. We also had an SMA casting last Friday. Nothing for DD2 since the measles casting.

pureeandpearls · 02/03/2009 17:31

Agency told us Housemum. Nothing fo rus for the last week or so- which is no bad thing ecause I've been so busy. Saw UA at the Babyshow on Friday so I guess they're busy too....

Confuzled · 03/03/2009 03:28

Norrie Carr have asked to meet my LO - could anyone advise me on whether they're a good agency?

Housemum · 03/03/2009 09:07

DD2 was with Norrie Carr when she was a baby (4/5 years ago) - she did a lot with them between the ages of 1 and 2.5 (Mother & Baby mag, Boots magazine, Dorling Kindersley, a commercial for Abbey bank) They do have an annual fee (was around £150) and the photo shoot was £60 plus buy the photos at around £5 each if you wanted copies. We switched to B&B when she was 3 - just from the chat on here, DD wasn't getting any work and others of similar ages were. Nothing wrong with NC but I think the change was good for her - she's had loads since. B&B only charge about £40 per year - photoshoot is £110 but you get a CD of all the images so you can get your own personal copies.

My personal view was that NC got a lot more for the younger ones - other people have told me NC are also good for more film/commercial work for slightly older ones (and DD2 did once get down to the final 4 for a film part - we were that close to seeing Jude Law and she fluffed it at the final fence as she was almost asleep when we met the casting director!!)

julie4travel · 04/03/2009 09:20

confuzled - last year we worked twice on jobs with norrie carr children - one photographic and one tv commercial
we had a casting last week and norrie carr had a child on the casting sheet - i nosed
they def get the work - we nearly went with them until we were offered a place at a no fee agency so we went with that one instead

please note they dont invite everyone up to join their books they seem pretty selective.
when we went to meet them the owner was really nice etc.

good luck in your decisions

Confuzled · 05/03/2009 07:20

That's so helpful, thank you both of you. I really have no clue about this industry at all, just thought it was a good way perhaps to bump up his child trust fund for him.

We've also had a response from Kitsch Kids now, who are willing to accept him without a meeting, and Rascals and Scallywags want to meet him too. We're waiting on a couple of photos being developed before sending those to Bruce and Brown. (The 3 pics we used so far had one with a hat on and another where he's asleep, and B & B say they won't accept those on their website - I wanted the pics to be as recent as possible.) He's not had any rejections yet - would you think it's worth applying to anyone else, or just going with one of those we've already had contact with?

Tbh I half expected to be told that he wasn't suitable, I mean every parent thinks their baby is beautiful, which of course is as it should be. I thought we might get one offer, but not a range, so now I don't know which to go for. Have you any advice on what might suit a little baby - he's only a few months old? I know Urban Angels is recommended a lot but they don't open their books again for a while, do they.

Also (sorry to pick brains so much) it isn't an issue for such a teeny, but is it hard on their self esteem when they get bigger? I mean, are the casting people tactful/kind to them so the edge is taken off the rejections?

julie4travel · 06/03/2009 08:44

confuzled - the casting directors do not say there and then if your child isnt suitable for the job. you only hear back if its good news. we take each casting as it comes and the kiddies are quite hardended and dont mention after the casting - i tell them if the job confirmed or if they have been pencilled yet not chosen. they get a treat each time they do a good job - sometimes small £1 treats for doing good castings too!

Personally i think if bb have asked for more pictures they are really considering your child. they def get the work and take £40 from the first job with no other outlay. the babies on their books get jobs for junior, m and s and stuff like that. sometimes you get straight jobs with no castings from them too. we have had a few of them. good luck in your decisions.

Housemum · 06/03/2009 12:37

Confuzled - I second what Julie says - my DD2 is nearly 6 so she knows now that she may or may not be picked - I just tell her that if they don't pick her it's just because they wanted a different look, that she's done nothing wrong. She's fine with it because she just likes having a trip to London anyway.

whinegums · 09/03/2009 20:35

Hi there (waves to Puree and Goingto) - we live in Scotland, I wondered if anyone had any experience outside London?

DS (8 months old) has been accepted by Bizzy Kids, but I don't know if it's worth paying the fee if they only have work 'dahn Sarf.' We are very central for the major Scottish cities. Checked out Urban Angels North but their books are closed atm. Would appreciate any advice, all new to me!!

FrostyTheSnowgirl · 09/03/2009 21:37

Hi, does anyone have any advice on modelling agencies in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne?

Haribosmummy · 09/03/2009 21:39

Hi,

Is it OK to join? DS has just signed up with Rascals and had his first job last week... he really loved it!!
My DSD is with MOT and she's doing really well too!

Would love to see what people think of other agencies. DS was accepted into Scallywags too, but I preferred Rascals...

HM

pureeandpearls · 10/03/2009 16:18

Whine [wave] Frosty Haribo- afraid I'm still a novice at this, though babypearls did get her first cheque today, so not that useful in the advice department, but welcome you with open arms and a big smooch!!

altin · 10/03/2009 21:25

mummyegg · 12/03/2009 00:05

Frostythesnow girl.

We are with Urabn Angels North who are in Newcastle but i think thier books are closed now until Aug.

Quadrophenia · 12/03/2009 00:08

oh Altin my dd did the asda job what excatly am i supposed to be figuring...that she is some kind of rough looking child that fits their criteria??? nice post.

mummyeme · 12/03/2009 07:46

Quadrophenia,
Congrats on the asda job, what a great one to have it'll be everywhere. I'd expect the asda job would have been a larger casting, so more kids to choose from and harder to get maybe.
Well done to your dd

puffling · 12/03/2009 10:58

Hi. We're with UAN. Have not had a casting yet and it's been nearly 6 months. I think it's the same for lots of children in dd's age group (2-3 yrs.) Anyone know if there's a time of year when things will pick up? Also wondering why they're a sole agency if they have so little work.

Quadrophenia · 12/03/2009 11:57

puffling it is more likely that by being up north you are going to get less work, thats just how it is...
