Very unmumsnet hugs to you Macdog. I need your advice. We are looking at our summer holiday next year. Northumberland and Ayrshire are on the list (you paint such a fab picture of your neck of the woods). A cottage friendly for children, with 4 bedrooms for us and me ma and pa in September. Any advice?

Wow. Thanks for that Macdog. September 2009. Have just sent a text to my mum about it. My Dad will probably be a grumpy old sod about going to Scotland, but mum is very amenable. We went to The Isle Of Whithorn about 18 years ago and got a bit bored, but then we were teenagers and it rained everyday for a fortnight.

Mum loves bird watching so either Arran or Northumberland with the Farne Islands would be great for her. It's nice just to get away though isn't it?

Anybody do camping at all? My sister and her boyfriend convinced us it would be a good idea to take dd and ds. We want to go before dd2 (oh yes) comes along. Do you think we're crazy going camping with 2 kids 3 and under while 8 months pregnant? We've been offered the use of a 3 pod tent to trial, and there is a group of friends all going away to the Lakes in August for a week. I'm thinking (hoping) the kids will all look after and amuse themselves????

Macdog · 05/01/2009 17:08

we used to go to Isle of Whithorn when we were little: all I remember is the bowling green, harbour, cafe/shop and a field with a Clydesdale horse and 2 donkeys in it!

If you need any help on locations etc let me know.
All the areas I posted are ones I know well. Lots of scope for birdwatching here.

Macdog · 06/01/2009 19:36
