Sleepless night fretting about T and loos and lunches at big school - how neurotic am I ?!

Did teh plumber come hotcross, how much was the quote? [nosy emoticon]

We had to have our whole central heating hot water thank thingymijig replaced 3 years ago. It cost nearly £5000 We are still paying off the loan now But we could not leave it - things went bang and the hot water adn heating went off, in the middle of February [shiver]

T sounds like he is doing incredibly well, signing himself up for Reading Club etc.
Has he mentioned anything about any nice class mates?

O came out of school happier today. He tells me he thinks he can handle littlemisstroppyknickers so is going to live with it for now. I am proud of him
Things are definately stepping up a gear now. In Y3 adn Y4 they would have 3 lots of homework (literacy, numeracy, topic) per week, plus reading and spelling. Now they have four because French has been added. Although they give them a week to do the French so that is not too bad. But we are running out of days to do everything in....

E came out of school happy because she has a wobbly tooth And I checked, adn she has, a true, bona fide wobbly tooth. Am feeling wobbly about it - my baby is growing up [sob]

hotcrossbunny · 12/09/2008 19:40

Plumber didn't turn up Just when I thought I might actually get some work done....

Am at £5000, hippi. We are scared stiff of getting a bill like that. B is very jealous of E's wobbly tooth She is desperate to have one as her BF has had 2 teeth fall out already! Hugs for you - I don't approve of this growing up thing our dcs are intent on doing!

It sounds like all of our dc's are doing really really well so far. Change is always challenging, but they seem to be getting on with it. Well done all of them!

Apparently Barnaby Bear only has to join us on one outing this weekend. We're going to meet up with friends tomorrow and go to one of the Heritage Weekend events, so that will give us something to write about in the email to the class. Must remember to keep any tickets/menus etc for B to show the class on Monday.

What are your plans for the weekend? I'm so glad to be at the end of the week. We've been trying to persuade B not to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/09/2008 20:46

pesky plumber
at the wanting wobbly teeth !! T didn't lose a tooth until he was 6 I think !
Hope Barnaby Bear enjoys his outing. We are going out to lunch with my parents, brother, SIL and niece to celebrate my bday in advance, which will be jolly..other than that I guess household chores. Might not get time to do any work, but have done a few decent enough drawings today.
T hasn't mentioned any particular people in his tutor group or sets - he is never very forthcoming about these things..It does seem that our dcs are settling into their new terms well though - hooray !
Have lovely weekends xxx

Plumbers are a nightmare sadly. We had one real cowboy 5 years ago, which resulted in everything going bang two years later adn requiring a small fortune to put right.

And we have been trying to get someone to put a radiator in O's room for ages. We bought the radiator ages ago, but it is not plumbed in. Two plumbers did not turn up for their appointment, one did but then did not bother to send a quote. Now dh is getting the plumber from work to do it for him, but the man is a single dad so he does not have a lot of spare time. (which is fair enough, I am just grateful he is willing to do the job!)

Dh is working today (hurrah, think of the overtime
I need to take the dc to the library, then E has a swimming lesson, and we need to buy a birthday present for SIL who we are seeing Sunday afternoon.

Tonight we are going to Tulleys Farm to do the Maize Maze by torchlight. We are going with MIL and her partner, should be fun

Right, better go and get breakfast organised. O is already up, E is still snoozing (she loves her lie-ins!!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 08:43

Hope you had a good time at the maze hippi and that Barnaby and B enjoyed their Heritage weekend event
We had a lovely day yesterday - my family all came and we went to lunch at Pizza Express in town - v nice. T was bossed around by his 5 yr old cousin as usual - he doesn't mind, she is definitely in charge ! They trotted on ahead of us, him taking her hand and crossing all the roads - he'd crossed the very busy school road too before we'd realised - a sign of growing up !!
Mum made me a brilliant birthday cake - chocolate, with icing and jam in the middle and my name on it and 5 candles ! Dh did my weekend cleaning for me - kitchen floor and bathroom floor, both of which I hate doing and we watched the Strictly Come Dancing preview and The Last Night of the Proms.

Morning. You have me in a panic MAS. Why did I think your birthday was later in the week? Have I missed it? Oh no, I'm so sorry. And I can't find where we discussed it, it must have been on our old thread I hope you're having a lovely time - it sounds like you are being treated well Happy birthday!!!!

How was Maize maze hippi? They're such good fun - didn't realise there was one round here.

We went to Polesden Lacey yesterday and it was lovely. So warm and sunny, B spent a lot of time just running and climbing in trees. But................ I couldn't believe it! He was in the car, then B ran in for a wee before we left and managed to leave the bear on his own. So today we're off out again

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 12:33

at bear being left behind !!!!
this was a pre-birthday treat - actual day is Wednesday ! A week long celebration as dh says we should go out on Saturday too
Polesden Lacey is nice - I went once many yrs ago.

Morning, wow, sounds like you both had lovely weekends

Poor bear being left behind, where will you take him to make up for it hotcross??

MAS your birthday cake looks great!! Who does the snazzy pink skirt behind teh cake belong to, was that you?

Teh maize maze was amaizing [
I will try and upload some photos later. There were some games and stuff to do at Tulleys before they opened the maze (giant inflatable slide, mini maze, panning for gold, trampoline, pedal go-karts etc) Then when it got dark they let people into the maze in groups of 10 - 15. There was a 10 min briefing and then you were on your own. We entered teh maze at around 8.10pm.
It was huuuuuggggeeee. They told it it takes most people between 1 adn 1.5 hours to get back out.
It took us only 35 minutes to find the refreshment tent in the middle. Had a break and a hot chocolate. And then it took us an hour to find the way out. We covered pretty much every step of teh 4 miles of pathway, crossed all of the 7 bridges and probably went under all of them as well!! But it was great fun! The moon was bright and it was a lovely night. Came out all muddy, tired and exhilerated
There were some strange characters there, including a couple who were doing the maze in their pyjamas adn dressing gown!

I am home all day today, I have my 13 year old nephew here. Bil and Sil both have to work and they don't want to leave him home on his own - he had his appendix out on Thursday and is still recovering.

So have a huuuge list of chores (as I don't want it to come back to MIL and SIL that I sit on my bum all day!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/09/2008 08:34

maze sounds a-mazing (sorry) ! Does anyone panic in there though ? Hope nephew is ok and recovering well.
Skirt belongs to my niece - was a lovely and pretty dress ! my feet are in the picture - the pink flipflops !
T just gone off with his cooking stuff - he wanted to know if he could take his watch so he could check what time his singing lesson is this afternoon - he has to excuse himself from his lesson and make his way to music block for 1.25 - I told him that there are clocks in school and I'd rather he didn't risk losing his watch as there's PE today too - too much going on and I know he struggles putting it on/taking it off...
Back to drawing today..have good days both of you. Hope Barnaby Bear got his outing

OP posts:
hippipotami · 15/09/2008 09:20

No no no, it is amaizing, because it was a maize maze!!

hippipotami · 15/09/2008 09:21

I do know how to spell amazing

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/09/2008 09:21

!!

OP posts:
hippipotami · 15/09/2008 09:29

No-one appeared to panic. The pathways were quite wide. There were 7 wooden bridges, each with a member of staff holding a torch adn a map, so if you got lost you could ask. Most people were laughing and joking their way round, the athmosphere was great!

Poor T - it sounds like he has so much to remember...
I would be too shy in lessons to put my hand up and ask to be excused for singing...

E was a little reluctant to go into school today, but that could be because nephew was here. He is on the sofa playing playstation. He says he feels a bit sore.

hotcrossbunny · 15/09/2008 10:59

I will refrain from making a maize maze joke Glad you had a great time hippi. Was it entirely dark, or were there floodlights on it? Did E and O go too?

I'm very pleased I didn't get your birthday wrong, MAS. Was really confused Maybe a week long birthday celebration will catch on...sounds good to me!

I think T is doing really really well. It must be so daunting. Hope he's beginning to get to know some of his classmates? That'll make it much easier for him. I'd have been too scared to put my hand up too btw!

Well bear was very reluctantly taken back to school today. B was very attached to him, and very worried that other classmates would be slacking in their standards of care We took him to Shalford Mill yesterday, and he appeared to be having a good time. We really enjoyed it too. It was fascinating and our guide was a bit of a character. I think the bear nonplussed her a bit though!
We took lots of photos of bear grinding corn, bear by the watermill etc and dh added them to the email for school. Hopefully it arrived safely.

I've just been to the bank with a couple of PTA members as I'm now a signatory for the account. It's such a palavar(sp?) - in this day and age, surely they should be able to put it straight on the computer, not bother with form after form????

hippipotami · 15/09/2008 11:28

E-mail to school with bear's antics sounds great!!

Teh maize maze was completely dark. That was the point of it, and people came with torches, and some had covered themselves with those glow-sticks etc. It was truly fun!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/09/2008 11:43

I'd love to see bear grinding corn !!
Regarding the PTA money things, yes, that always seemed to be a faff, signing cheques etc, not that I was ever a signatory !
I wouldn't have put my hand up either - I think as it's at the very beginning of the lesson he'll just go to his teacher and say that he has a music lesson - they must be used to this - he is getting more assertive though which is good ! Hope he likes the singing - not sure if it's one to one or in a small group..if he doesn't then he can stop at the end of term.
Am drawing birds at the moment - robin, rooks and a wren..next is a mynah bird. No word from my editor though about roughs,so I'll just carry on.
