think we've been deleted,so shall we put ourselves here in other subjects ?
Sleepless night fretting about T and loos and lunches at big school - how neurotic am I ?!

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2008 15:36

it's very hard to do,isn't it.
Well,it appears that T has lent further money today to this same boy - the change from his lunch - the boy has promised to never ask for money again and will return it tomorrow...hmmm. Am quite cross with T but can't be as he has E home for tea. I told him he absolutely must not lend anymore money, even if it's paid back (which I doubt it will be) Am not sure what to do about this really, apart from telling T what not to do and trusting him to be a bit tougher and standing up to this boy and saying no. Oh well.

OP posts:
hippipotami · 11/11/2008 17:27

Aw no, it is so tough isn't it?
Poor T, it is hard standing up to others though isn't it. But it is something he must get used to doing. Easier said than done though

Hope T has a nice time with his pal E.

We are off to E's parent's evening now. Will tell all when we are back

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2008 19:23

hope E's parent's evening goes well...am off to bookgroup shortly- am driving so no consoling wine for me
T and E seemed to have a jolly tea together I think.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 11/11/2008 19:28

oh I'm not driving now !! someone has offered me and S a lift - hooray !

OP posts:
hippipotami · 12/11/2008 07:57

Hello, how was bookgroup?

E's parent's evening went well. Her (very young) teacher did not have much to say about her.
She appears to be doing well. Her handwriting has got messier ()and she needs to work on her maths especially number bonds to 10, but when we did them at home after parent's evening she knew them all (again )
I suppose I am a teeny teensy bit disappointed because her reception teacher described her as advanced and very bright whereas this teacher seemed to think she was distinctly average.
(Nothing wrong with average mind you )
What she did highlight was E's obvious love of books. She said whenever E reads out loud it is fluent and with great expression.
A love of books is brilliant, so that was a positive

Right, better get the small people off to school, have a nice day

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2008 09:48

book group was very nice, thank you ! had a couple of glasses of wine and nice crisps and little spring rolls with chilli dip..
Don't be despondent about E's teacher meeting - all teachers seem to be different in their approach/response, and I do understand the disappointment feeling that you can get - have had that before with T - some teachers very effusive, others more circumspect. Am sure she's doing just fine and the love of books and reading can only be the best thing ever - maths overrated, imo !!

OP posts:
hippipotami · 12/11/2008 11:22

Agree about the maths!! (don't tell my friend K though, her dh and FIL have maths degrees adn big S is also a boy-maths-genius! (and lovely with it )

Stupid to be disappointed really though, she is happy and doing fine, so that is the main thing

Book group sounds fine - especially the food

I never did mention the book-group idea at the girls night out last month. Must do that!!

Right, am off to get the weekly groceries, adn must pop into Hobbycraft and PetCity (or Pets at Home or whatever they are called now)

Back later

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2008 16:40

T's friend E is maths genius - T really struggles
Just back from lovely lunch with my 2 school friends from primary school...

hippipotami · 13/11/2008 14:56

Hi MAS, how was your day?

I invigilated one exam today, so a short morning
But am working all day tomorrow.

Have started making fabric bows to stitch onto O's ball gown for the school play. Have bought him a fab neon pink feather boa too!

He is going to look sooooo funny!

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/11/2008 15:53

you must post pictures of O in his lovely gown !!! he'll look fabulous !
Ok day here, washing and supermarket shopping. Yesterday was great, seeing my school friends..nice lunch at Maison Blanc in Farnham- I had a croque monsieur - yum.
One friend, M , is on Facebook and that persuaded me to re register myself - probably a bad idea as I shall waste hours just scrolling through all my friends and relations photographs - do you fancy it ?
My parents are coming over tomorrow to measure in new house/see cattery and collect their moving cards/bring me more bead supplies.
Hope all is ok with hotcross.
Have a good days invigilating tomorrow xxx

OP posts:
hippipotami · 13/11/2008 19:44

Wow, lunch sounds great. O learnt all about croque monsieur in French class and wants me to make him one at teh weekend. Will let you know how I get on

Have been uhming and ahrring about facebook. My sister is on it, and the nosy part of me fancies registering and having a good old nose....

Maybe next week when I am not so busy (says she who wants the kitchen adn dining room painted before the end of the month )

Hope hotcross is okay.

Back later
xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/11/2008 21:51

oh do have a go hippi - I'm really enjoying it,and if it takes over you can always deactivate it !
Good luck with croque monsieur- I remember it from a lovely children's cookery book I had as a child (I was given a copy more recently by my friend - she found it in a charity shop)- I always thought it looked most exciting..never made it though !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2008 16:35

hooray,hippi's on facebook !
bet we can't persuade hotcross though.
Have had a nice but busy old day - cleaned the kitchen windows (!) then my parents arrived, so made coffee and my painter/decorator came by to say hello which was nice - he's lovely - he was going to see if T's window was working ok,was meant to sand it or something a while ago but it seems to be open and shuttable, depends if it's rained heavily and then the wood swells up. Anyway, v nice to see him.
We went to view the cattery for their 3 when they move and then dropped off my latest batch of hearts and had a quick lunch at the same nice pub my friend M took me to a few weeks ago. Rushed them back to see the new house and to measure inside etc,and they've just gone. Taking T to swimming lesson shortly.
Have been amusing myself on Facebook posting old pictures and contacting old art school people..all very nostalic !
Hope you are both well xxx

hippipotami · 14/11/2008 16:38

Oooh I don't know MAS - I have registered but I have no idea how to 'work' it...
Just tried to log in to see my wall as apparently you have writting on it (what is that all about ) and the page would not load... I blew it up

So it is very much a tentative toe in the water, am more of a technophobe than I thought.....

hippipotami · 14/11/2008 16:42

Sounds like you had a lovely afternoon
I ahve been working all day - I have come to the conclusion I love teenagers There are some real crackers out there. Had a girl today, reputed as a trouble maker, who was just dossing about in the exam, kept being told off, so I just went to her and asked if she was okay. She told me she is a fidgetter, unable to concentrate, in the bottom sets for everything and what is the point of it all...
So I took some time reading the questions through with her adn she actually started putting pen to paper
When she finished she had some time to spare and spent it drawing me a lovely picture of the exam hall and a scribbled thank you for being kind message
She's great!

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/11/2008 18:52

awww ! that;s lovely hippi - maybe you should be a teacher !
Persevere with the facebook, am sure it'll become clear in the end, there's a lot going on but you only need use the basic functions

OP posts:
hippipotami · 15/11/2008 12:24

Will have another look at facebook next week, when dh is at work. (he is very about me joining facebook

Not sure I could be a teacher. Just because I 'connected' with one girl and got on quite well with a few others. If I had more confidence than I would love to be a teacher, but I fear I am too much of a chicken

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/11/2008 15:02

oh hippi,am sure you'd be fab...well,have spent far too much time putting photos on Facebook today -gah !
Dh has just broken a bit off his tooth,so it's a trip to the dentist for him too this week...poor thing.

OP posts:
hippipotami · 17/11/2008 10:36

Morning, how are you? I see you have written on my wall , and will reply later,if I can ever get my head around facebook!

I hope hotcross is okay.

Right, dilemma for you:

A lunchtime supervisor position (temporary only till summer) has come up at the lower school. Do I apply?
For: regular (if small) income)
Against: have to give up on invigilating which I love

Arrrgh...

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2008 12:08

off the top of my head - stick to invigilating

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2008 12:11

that was my gut reaction,I meant...

OP posts:
hippipotami · 17/11/2008 12:48

that was what my friend K said too!! (I appear to be unable to make a decision without consulting her these days )

I would go for the lunchtime job if I wanted a foot in the door with the Lower School. But I want to work with older children, Junior or Secondary school age...

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2008 14:19

yep, stay where you are

OP posts:
hippipotami · 17/11/2008 16:22

I do feel guilty for not persuing a job when there is the chance of earning some money for the good of the family...

But it would mean I could not do anything else on those days as I would have to be at school every lunchtime, and that means giving up every single term-time weekday for not a lot of money...

Grr, I wish I could find my ideal job!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2008 16:43

don't beat yourself up about it - you've chosen the right thing to do,in my opinion- invigilating much more interesting and enjoyable and to give up all your weekdays for a small bit of extra income isn't worth it ! there !
