that's what Jamie just served up .. didn't you watch it Jools? ... all the kids kept choosing the grey meat and skinny chips instead of his home-cooked stuff

how could I forget about it! but I had a pal round for spag bol (with pasta NOT linguine see: 'whats for dinner') - anyway she voted for Life Begins!

I could have taped it if I'd been with it - doh!

stupidgirl · 23/02/2005 22:24

Signed too. My kids are home educated, but I think this is a really important issue.

womba1 · 23/02/2005 23:06

Bump!

Saw the programme tonight (forgot about Life Begins, why is everything on on a Wednesday?), thankfully my DS1's School seems to serve up better stuff than the School featured (we got to go in and try a School meal, DH went) I am horrified that those meals at the School on TV were acceptable! Things need to change.

No-one has asked why the hell there is only 37p per child per day available! It's a RIDICULOUS amount of money.

marthamoo · 23/02/2005 23:22

Watched J.O's programme tonight - just signed the petition.

OldieMum · 23/02/2005 23:49

bump

bluesky · 24/02/2005 09:17

I was shocked by it being 37p per child, but having looked at his website this morning, I am OUTRAGED that it is a quarter of what is spent per person in prisons.

I really hope he starts a momentum going, and people listen. Last night was great, but I think a whole education cycle needs to start. As the clip for next week shows, some children don't even recognise everyday basic vegetables.

Alot of these kids just get the same crap at home, so I feel schools have such an opportunity to feed their minds and feed their tummies.

DaddyCool · 24/02/2005 09:24

i've signed this and i'm so glad i've seen something like this.

it isn't difficult to cook good food. simple as that. and why in hell would a school offer junk food like fizzy drinks and choccy bars?

tarantula · 24/02/2005 09:35

Just signed this. Am gobsmaked at what they offer kids in school. Never had school dinners but guess I aint missed much. that must be why I like tapioca and semolina then was never forced to eat them at school. Still Hate liver mind.

Don't care too much for JO's working style and didn't like the programme but I'm wholeheartedly behind the cause so signed the petition.

RudyDudy · 24/02/2005 09:42

done - agree that it is a shame that it takes someone famous to draw attention to such an important issue but who cares if it makes a difference and our kids end up not being fed crap.
