Hundreds and thousands sandwiches? Really? That's appalling.

Done, such a good cause. School Jamie visits is one of our local comps and former alma mater (not for long) of Jude Law.

Its one thing I think about quite a lot for the her future ,as dh is foody mad. I worry about the type of food my dd will consume, how can I keep her eating healthy food at home if she eats beans and chips everyday at school.

scotlou · 21/02/2005 12:14

I've signed it - although my ds has school dinners in Scotland and I actually think they're quite good.

All for it but.....
much as I like Jamie Oliver, why is it only when a 'celebriddy' comes along that we seem to take note of anything. School dinners are generally shit and I would never let my kids near the junk they serve.

Polly Toynbee's book 'Hard Work' which came out a few years ago has a very good analysis of the decline of the school dinner. In it she goes undercover and takes on various underpaid undervalued jobs. (One is as a nursery assistant in a creche in Westminster but I had better not go into that here!)

I also think all parents of school age children need to lobby the Boards of Governors of schools - and the LEA.
