As I say, I'm going to try to live by:

'Don't sweat the small stuff'.

I'd like to see hundreds of others and see what other people base their lives/sanity on.

So list them here!

You can't take it with you

(meaning money, so you may as well spend it!)

beansmum · 22/08/2008 18:19

where there is alien slime there is usually trouble

LilRedWG · 22/08/2008 18:22

It'll be okay in the end - if it's not okay, it's not the end.

allytjd · 22/08/2008 18:29

DH has one for work "Just try not to be shit" (he used to be a perfectionist but had to relax his standards a bit when he started his own company!). I use it for lots of things now.

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 22/08/2008 18:35

If you can't set a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

drbread · 22/08/2008 18:37

life's a bitch, and then you die.

drbread · 22/08/2008 18:37

theres only one certainly in life.
death.

Boco · 22/08/2008 19:05

"Always join in other people's arguments. Try to get others to join in, too."

'Isolate yourself from human contact, shout at anyone who invades your personal space'

'Never cry, bottle up your unhappiness so that it grows like a giant fungus inside a rotting tree stump'

'Stockpile memories of things that really depress you, remember them, relive them, reflect on them, fit them into your daily routine'

Hobnobfanatic · 22/08/2008 19:13

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

AND

This too shall pass

drbread · 22/08/2008 19:17

You can't control what people do, but you can control how you react to them.......

NotSoRampantRabbit · 22/08/2008 19:34

Like the Maya Angelou quote Heated. As someone who is less than restrained when expressing anger, I wholeheartedly agree.

Mine is:

Never ever chew a pea. They are evil on the inside.

And:

Nobody is watching so crack on you fool.

nkf · 22/08/2008 19:41

Love the one about dancing in the rain.

nkf · 22/08/2008 19:43

I also like the bible quote about letting today's own troubles be sufficient for today.

CrushWithEyeliner · 22/08/2008 20:39

Recognise the difference between having and living

Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans

OrmIrian · 22/08/2008 21:41

'F* off the lot of your, leave me alone!"

Oh sorry. Not so much a motto as an involuntary unspoken plea, that flashes into my mind several times a day.

bramblebooks · 22/08/2008 21:48

I also 'just keep swimming'

I quote the sainted auntie mabel .... ' come along then pippin, this won't do!'

One of my faves:
let us now be up and doing,
with a heart for any fate

and a new one ..

keep calm and carry on

medogsarebarking · 22/08/2008 21:49

Just remembered another one:

Life's too short to stuff a mushroom.

(Which my sister insists on rephrasing as 'there aren't enough mushrooms in the world' for some reason..)

Uriel · 22/08/2008 21:51

Yes, I like the old WW2 one too - Keep Calm and Carry On.

slayerette · 22/08/2008 21:51

'Eagles soar but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.'
'Some say when life gives you lemons make lemonade. I say wing 'em right back and add some lemons of your own.' (Calvin & Hobbes)
In fact most of the Calvin & Hobbes cartoons provide the best mottoes to live by.

surprise · 22/08/2008 23:16

One of my granny's was "live long and die happy".

Another one I really like is "make memories, not plans"

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 22/08/2008 23:23

medogsarebarking, may i direct you to my post of 11:48
