Wasn't there a very tasty young man presenting this show (alongside that intensely irritating cutesy pigtailed child-woman). I've not watched for a while, but this week he had been transformed into that slightly odd cousin who didn't have any friends, couldn't dance and smelt funny. So we won't be watching that again.

Yes, Poi, Poy, Pui or however you spell it was one of the teletubbies (Po I think) and it is the same person. They too are in very big heavy costumes and all the props are made very large. They can only spend a limited amount of time in costume as they get so hot. The rabbits are special giant breeds and Noo Noo actually has someone inside it too. Isn't Toyah Wilcox one of the teletubby voices?

Moomin · 07/02/2003 18:41

I thought she was just the "over the hills and far away..." voice.

Chinchilla · 07/02/2003 19:35

Yes, you're right Moomin. And Eric Sykes does the 'TELETUBBIES' bit as the balloons burst at the beginning!

tomps · 08/02/2003 01:27

I find t-tubbies really sinister with the weird 'Big Brother' baby, and those periscopes and 'time for byebyes' messages. It's a bit like in The Prisoner when they're told what to do, when to eat etc. Doesn't seem right to be encouraging little people to live under a strict regime. I think Teletubby land must be run by Gina Ford, perhaps with backing from Michael Jackson. And with that thought it's time for Tomps bye byes

tomps, lol at GF and MJ running teletubbyland!

Paula1 · 08/02/2003 13:33

I remember when DS started watching teletubbies, he thought that the baby in the sun was him, he loved it

tomps · 22/04/2003 21:03

Has anyone seen the Boombahs yet ? Got a very good review in w'end papers ! Must get video working as we're usually out in the afternoon. And I would just like to add that I am NOT happy with cbeebies' new schedule ... I used to look forward to my 2 episodes of Tweenies before bedtime but now it's the sh--ty shiny show and bluddy Monty (?!)and how is that cartoon aimed at pre-schoolers ?

Only saw the first one, Ds (20 months) was mesmerised - I thought it utter clap trap, the TV guide said unless your under 5 or on LSD you probably wont understand it.

Needless to say, I didn't and turned over to Bill and Ben. Much more understandable Flobber lob!

Angel78 · 23/04/2003 08:47

Oh Yes. We've seen Boobah or suffered it. It makes you feel as if someone must have spiked your cup of tea, please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like that. There was one with "Auntie" on yesterday and she looked quite scarey. I think it's a pile of poo but ds and dd adore it. They love dancing along with those drug induced multicoloured creatures. If you thought teletubbies was scarey, watch this.

Metrobaby · 23/04/2003 10:46

I'm still confused

How do the Tweenies see - or do they perform blind as it were ? I too have examined video - freeze-framed it to see if I could see a hole or something in their mouths or nostrils - but couldn't

For that matter how do the teletubbies see ?

Am so glad to find I am not alone in wondering about the workings of the Tweenies - have also stared long and hard at their 'faces' to see how they see out ! (do the words get a life spring to mind?!!)

Have you also noticed that when they go on a trip somewhere - there's only ever ONE major Tweeenie (usually Max or Judy ) and then just two others who then take the form of hand puppets ...curioser and curioser...I think we should be told! I really do need to get out more!

WideWebWitch · 23/04/2003 22:16

I've just glanced through this thread and I can't believe you all know so much about the Teletubbies, Tweenies etc, you made me laugh! I do realise though that I'll be joining you when I've got another tiny And ds watched Jungle Book today for the first time in about 2 years and I realised that I know pretty much all the words. In order.

Linnet · 23/04/2003 22:50

Finbar apparantly, because the actors who play the tweenies are adults, they can only take out Max or Judy and use puppets for the tweenies because the actors who are the tweenies would all be to big in comparison to other children or the same height as any adults they are standing next to.

And does Justin from tikkabilla really do Jakes voice? I don't like Justin he really bugs me and I don't like Sarah Jane either. Sadly dd loves tikkabilla, but to me it's just 21st century Playschool with a young Floella Benjamin lookalike, has anyone else noticed this?

Nutjob · 24/04/2003 09:56

Linnet - I actually thought that Lorna (think that's her name!!) was Floella Benjamin's daughter or something, she looks so like her. But her surname is different - s'pose that doesn't mean she isn't though!!

debster · 24/04/2003 12:26

But if all the people playing the Tweenies are adults how come Fizz, Bella etc are significantly shorter than Max and Judy? I can't believe I'm discussing this

Metrobaby · 24/04/2003 12:50

I think they must be able to see somehow - as the dance moves are quite co-ordinated and when they do activities etc I can't see how they do it without seeing. But I'd still like to know for certain how/if they see.

Its bugging me now

Debster, The tweenies are played by fairly tall adults, well tall compared to me. I think they range from about 5'5 up to about 6'5. My husband read an article about them in the paper a few years ago but I never saw it so I'm relying on his memory here. But it was about the fact that they are all tall adults which is why they can't take the tweenies out incase they stand next to a child and look enormous. but max and judy are all right because they aren't much taller than the average adult.

nutjob, I also wondered if Lorna, yes that's her name I couldn't remember, was Floella Benjamins daughter, they do look so alike. but also noticed the name was different, but in this day and age that doesn't really mean anything.

Finbar · 25/04/2003 08:05

And I must add here in total admiration how supple and bendy the actors who play Doodles and the other doggy are!!!

CurryMonster · 24/11/2003 15:01

Hi girls. I'm a new member as of today and I've been rolling up laughing at your comments. I'm glad I'm not the only saddo for example, who knows all the words to Clifford the Big Red Dog and who knows what characters do what voices on other programmes etc. Tee hee.

Jollymum · 24/11/2003 18:21

CurryMonster-welcome to Mumsnet! If you ever need a laugh, a cry or a good moan, we're here for you!

3XMUMMY · 14/12/2003 02:12

thank you for making me laugh so much......i remember the poo episode fondly! personally our family loves Balamory ....thinking of painting the outside of our house....but which colour will it be?? lol

zippy539 · 14/12/2003 10:00

Excellent thread! Just read an interview with an actor who does the voice of either Bella or Fizz - she said that she did the voice and operated the facial expressions of the character (remote control I think) while other performer did movements inside the cossie.

Actually cebeebies has become a bit of a trauma in this house - ds (2) has developed a morbid fear of smarteenies and has a hysterical fit if they show so much as a trailer (which seems to be all the flippin' time!).

bekki21 · 22/10/2004 14:46

i have just phoned up tell tale where they do the filming and found out that they do see out of their mouths. if you notice there mouths are not shut for any long period and if it is shut for 10 seconds then they are familiar with there surroundings.
