Wasn't there a very tasty young man presenting this show (alongside that intensely irritating cutesy pigtailed child-woman). I've not watched for a while, but this week he had been transformed into that slightly odd cousin who didn't have any friends, couldn't dance and smelt funny. So we won't be watching that again.

Anybody know if the starfish on RubbaDubbas is the same voice as Dizzy from Bob the Builder? Sounds like it to me ....

AngieL · 06/02/2003 11:48

Is the voice for Max in The Tweenies, the man that played Michelle Fowler's older lecturer boyfriend in Eastenders?

lou33 · 06/02/2003 12:17

Re Tweenies, the suits are very hot so they can only work for 10 minutes at a time in them, max and judy are played by the same person, they add the voices on afterwards, and not sure if I am remembering this properly but I don't think they can see either!

SoupDragon · 06/02/2003 13:11

I've just spent a long while staring at the TV very close and I can't see how they can see out unless the fabric is very thin on the face at some point and they can see through it well enough not to collide with anyone/thing.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2003 13:19

On the Tweenies:

"Their heads and eyes move mechanically; inside each nine-kilo Tweeny head is both a real head and a bunch of hot machinery"

"Once they are inside the masks, however, they rely on partners to operate the animatronic mouths, eyes and eyebrows; the costumed actors just do the movements"

babster · 06/02/2003 13:19

I pity the poor sod who plays Doodles - the suit must be stifling and the posture must be agony!

AngieL · 06/02/2003 13:21

Why is it that when the Tweenies go outside, Max and Judy still have a person inside them yet the others are just puppets?

mum2toby · 06/02/2003 13:27

Cheers Lou33 and Soupdragon!
But I'm intrigued to know how you both know all this???

SoupDragon · 06/02/2003 13:31

I did a Google search on the words tweenies filming

Honest!

breeze · 06/02/2003 13:31

I knew that the outdoor tweenies looked different, especially fizz and now i know why, you learn something new everyday.

lou33 · 06/02/2003 14:58

Insider knowledge!

SoupDragon · 06/02/2003 15:29

You're a Tweenie???

lou33 · 06/02/2003 15:53

Lol, no!

mum2toby · 06/02/2003 17:02

You used to be a Tweenie??

Or

Are you married to a Tweenie??

....

SoupDragon · 06/02/2003 17:14

I think she's married to Max...

Zoe · 06/02/2003 17:19

So are Max and Judy the same person? Are they never seen together like Michael and Latoya? I thought that they use puppets outside because the Tweenie house is made up proportionally to make them look small, and outside they would look adult size - so is Judy/Max one big person?? We need to know!

Moomin · 06/02/2003 19:32

I've got a queation as well. Don't want to sound ignorant about the pronunciation of Chinese names, but I noticed that one of the Teletubbies names in the credits is Pui someone or other. Could this be the same as the girl pronouned as "Poy" on CBeebies? I feel the nation should know....

Moomin · 06/02/2003 19:33

Sorry, meant "question". (Dd's being bathed by dh and I'm left to my own devices which involves a huge glass of Rosemount)

babster · 06/02/2003 19:42

It is. And Sue is the voice of Tigs (Shiny Show) and Poppy (Playdays). Crikey, I watch far too much TV. Back to Tweenies... I have located an article in The Sun's archive about behind the scenes, and am wondering if I am tragic enough to cough up £2.50 to read it. I need some of that Rosemount, Moomin!

babster · 06/02/2003 20:18

Who's who in Tweenies
Think I'd better stop there in case I get really obsessed

lou33 · 06/02/2003 21:22

No it's all a lot less interesting than that, I just know someone who was allowed to take their little girl onto the set to watch it being filmed! Sorry for not being anything more exciting. Yes max and judy are played by the same person.

Chinchilla · 06/02/2003 22:06

So, if all the Tweenies in the house set are full sized people, how do they make Max and Judy look so much bigger? Do they employ dwarves/giants, or is it all done with mirrors...I'm confused.

Thanks Babster re Sue from CBeebies and Poppy/Tigs. I love knowing who is who, it makes the programmes so much more watchable. I obviously don't watch them through choice

Carla · 06/02/2003 22:49

For all you Pippin devotees, she has joined the jetset and now earns more than Auntie Mabel and cousin Enid put together. Have a look here

God, must get out more. Any good dog handlers out there ......??

Carla · 06/02/2003 22:56

I'm sorry that didn't work - but if you are curious type 'Pippin' into the Telegraph's search engine. She's at the bottom of the third page of searches.

Moomin · 07/02/2003 16:13

I'm confused. Was Babster's reply "It is" aimed at the question about Max/Judy or Pui/Poy?!! BTW, Rosemount is 2 for £10 at Tesco's at the mo.
